-
bluh-SHAWN?
It’s Bless Juan, right?
-
one of the worst made up names in the draft. up there with somebody deciding to spell a name we all know as 'joejuan'
-
Honestly, no idea why we drafted him. There is no way in the world he would have been taken with his medical and lack of tape.
But hopefully he can contribute in some way
-
bluh-SHAWN?
I was saying Bless-Juan
-
I watch most Rutgers games and I've never heard of him. Granted I get pretty fucked up on Saturdays.

So did Blessyou, apparently.
-
Saw lots of "could have grabbed him as an UDFA" type comments about Blessuan Austin so took a look at pre-draft predictions:
NFL.com: Round 6
@nfldraftscout: Round 6
DraftAnalyst: Round 6/7
Chad Reuter: Round 7
So perhaps not undrafted after all?
-
Ehh late round at a position of need. I'm OK with it. hopefully he turns into something serviceable.
-
Blessuan, thankuan
-
Anyone listen to this dude's PC?
He's either a future HOF or a moron. There's not much in between.
I'm rooting for him.

good for him. let's see what he's got

He's still on the team? Our team? How is he suiting up today? We play Monday.
-

Typically teams practice in between games, so I assume he's suiting up for that.
-
He's not even eligible to play Monday he's just practicing.
From what I read it will likely be several weeks before he even finds his way to the active roster.
-
He didn't say what suit. Halloween is coming up. Maybe he's trying on outfits.
-

Never thought of dressing for practice as suiting up, but I guess if you haven't even been doing that it's a step forward.

He played 1 game last year and got hurt. The year before, he played 4 games and not hurt. This year, he hasn't been able to do anything yet. I don't blame him for being excited - it's the first time he actually gets a chance to prove to the Jets what he can do.
And with Maccagnan gone, he better show something, since Douglas probably has no loyalty to the Austin pick.

I get it, I agree. Was just confused by the tweet, it's from yesterday, said he's suiting up today and there is a game but we're not in it.

He’s been cleared to practice. Gonna be a few weeks before he’s game ready.

We have 3 weeks of "exemptions" before we have to promote him to the active roster
Unless we suffer injuries in the secondary I imagine we will use all 3 weeks to let him get acclimated and practice

Everyone suffers injuries in their secondary all the time and our CBs suck to begin with. If he's any good he'll get his chance.
-
It seems Maccagnan finally got it right in his last draft 🤦🏽♂️
Dennis Waszak jr.
Gase was impressed by CB Bless Austin, who practiced yesterday for the first time this season.
Says the 6th-rounder was making things miserable for WRs. Could be a contributor this season.
(Still on NFI list; #Jets have three weeks to add him to active roster or put on IR)
-

It's the dudes first practice. Let's reel it in a little
-
i'm hoping for the best but like others have said, it's one practice. and his injury history over the past couple of years is pretty significant. in order to make something of yourself, you actually have to be on the field, and we need to see that
with a name like blessuan the odds will always be stacked against him in terms of making it at the NFL level
-
Hahaha, but I don’t just mean it for that pick. Cashman seems to be a keeper, Edoga as well, Quinnen of course and if one of Wesco or Austin pan out then it’s a pretty solid draft. If you add Kyle Allen into the mix then it could be one of the best rookie offseasons in the last years.
-

Other than the 3rd round pick who was so bad we had to cut him?

Making it to practice in year 2 is a tremendous accomplishment for one of our non top-6 draft picks.

He's practicing his stand up act bc he knows he's gone at the end of the season
-
i would play him the rest of the season. he has some physical tools; see if he can prove his ability to stay healthy and see what he can give us. this kid was better than hairston for sure, and we should just cut our ties with johnson
one of the annoying things about last year was not giving derrick jones more time on the field. he probably would have amounted to nothing anyways but one of the things to strive for in an otherwise lost season is to see what the young players on your roster can do

When you refuse to fire a hot-seat coach in-season he manages the games as best he can to save his job. He doesn't worry about the future he might not be around for.

this was very much a part of what happened last year (and what may happen this year as well) but there was definitely a time last year where bowles was a lame duck coach that we all knew wouldn't be here next year, and he should have gotten messages from the top of the organization about prioritizing starting/playing young players to see what they got. even if it was 3-4 games, it's something. we saw jones play in like the last game of the season, that's all. i hope similar things don't happen this season. there is literally no point in playing johnson

Why would Bowles follow that directive even if it was given to him (or Gase, if the situation comes up)? It's not in the lame duck coach's best interest to "see what the team has"; it's in his best interest to manage the games as well as he can to put on his resume.
That said, more and more I feel like Gase will not be a lame duck, no matter what happens the rest of the way.

Austin looks like he actually belongs. Some seriously impressive play from him today..or maybe my bar has been set really low after watching the crap they have trotted out on the field at CB.

Just for context this was against the possibility worst offense in the league. Longest streak without a td in 20 years
-
He looks like he tries against the run. Revis was the last CB we drafted that I could say that about.
DC is a weak offensive team, I'll wait to see his performance against better players before I start developing an opinion on his coverage. I definitely want to see more of him on the field, though.

Skrine* forced a fumble last night for the Bears. I had forgotten about his existence but for his flaws and injuries, the guy was a willing tackler.
*Skrine, not Shrine....goddamn autocorrect*

Also a penalty and automatic first down waiting to happen. As bad as we've been most of this year I don't miss him at all.

#Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow broke a rib and punctured his lung in Sunday’s loss to the #Jets, sources say. Just a rookie, Renfrow has quickly developed into a key weapon for QB Derek Carr. It’s unclear at this point how long he’ll be out.

They put him back in the game after that collision.

He got hurt when Henry Anderson landed on him later in the game

Even from the top corner of the stadium we could see he was getting banged up pretty good. Cold, raw day, that excrement hurts.
-
Apparently he's PFF's top graded corner in the NFL over the last three weeks.

Nice to have a starter come from late in the draft. Imagine how gangsta this defense would be if Tru Johnson wasn’t a bag of excrement, our LB were healthy, and we find a decent pass rusher in FA/Draft

Yeah, some of Maccagnan's draftees are starting to look pretty decent. You start to wonder how many of his failures (outside of Hackenberg) were him making excrement picks, and how many were down to Bowles and his staff freaking them up.

Blessaun and Cashman are making this draft look like Mac's best mid and late-round work which is amazing when you consider he spent a pick on a third rounder who didn't make the roster coming out of camp.
-
Idzik and Mac would have made quite a combo together. Mac had some solid drafts and Idzik knew how to pinch pennies with the best.
-
You have to also wonder if the Austin pick was all Maccagnan. We don't know if Gregg Williams had any say in the pick.
It may also be valid that Bowles and his staff sucked at development, but how many guys Maccagnan drafted are even still on active rosters?
-

I've thought about this a lot. Imagine if Williamson and Mosley were healthy all year? This defense could've been so much better.

Idzik never did anything clever or special, he just used the outs that were written into Tanny's contracts.

One of us was right, and of us was wrong.

This argument doesn’t hold up, most of Duff’s draft picks arent in the league anymore if they aren’t on the Jets. If they weren’t excrement picks they would have jobs on another team.

Bless is the new PFF Brandon Shell.

That's a bit simplistic and overlooks a couple of major points. The first year or two of most players in the NFL is when they learn to be an effective NFL player, if they're badly coached at that stage then they probably won't amount to anything later. There's the odd guy who figures it out later, but that's usually a high pick who gets a new coach.
Once we've had them a couple of years and then cut them, they're damaged goods. They've become a reclamation project and the new coach has to really believe in their underlying talent to do that, if they even get a second chance with a different team.
I'm not saying that Macc made great picks, just that the coaching staff certainly didn't do him or his players any favours.
-

It's like Enunwa coming around after Idzik was gone, an exception to the rule that most of the picks were garbage. I think as Jet fans we've just forgotten what a good draft is supposed to look like, it should be more than 3-5 good guys in three drafts, most of whom we don't re-sign. We have to go back to early Tannenbaum or look at other teams to see what a good draft should be.

I don’t disagree with your point, but look at the actual Jets picks objectively. What NFL coach is turning Jachai Polite or Hackenberg into a productive NFL player?

Ok, but on the flipside there's no way that either of those two players weren't getting picked by someone, Hackenberg because he was an interesting project and Polite because despite being a total prick he was outrageously talented.
Macc picked both too early, but we didn't have the right coaches to get anything out of either of them. (It's quite possible that no one does, but that doesn't mean that either of them couldn't have become NFL players.)

Completely guessing, but probably because he made some boneheaded mistakes and celebrated like he was a Pro Bowler. Maybe he has potential, but he's a backup right now at best.

Bless was responsible for letting Deonte Johnson get behind him with 0:09 seconds to go in the half vs. Pittsburgh. Maurice Canady (Ravens) replaced him yesterday and fwiw engaged in a bit of his own brand of Kyle Wilson finger wagging.

I had no problem with Austin getting some time on the pine, but 6 full quarters of football?
And yeah, Canady's fingerwag game was strong.
