I know we're only 2 episodes in, but I am really liking this show. Having not watched Breaking Bad since the finale, I forgot how well they could create tension in pretty much any situation, and just how unique and engaging their world is. The writing is top notch and they never seem to waste a scene or even a single line from a scene. Everything has significance.
-
Keep in mind that the first 3 episodes are being directed by Breaking Bad alums, and I'm not sure they'll be directing anymore after these. Could be all new directors, not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but it may feel different. Maybe that's why the first few seem very close to what BB was.

The first four are actually and I expect it to stay that way for a while.
-
It's going to have the same vibe, the writers are all the same and have been on record as saying they're writing the pacing similarly. Obviously it's a different kind of show as far as humor goes. That said there were a bunch of different directors on BB as well, it's shot in the same places. I think it's safe to say the look and feel of the show will be similar until it evolves into it's own stand alone entity, if and when that actually happens.
-
Los Pollos Hermanos is bound to show up eventually.
I love how Jimmy/Saul's office is in the back of the nail salon Pinkman used to launder his money.

Vince Gilligan just got a 3-season order for the spinoff series "Kettleteam".
-
Just got around to watching the first three episodes. I like it considerably more than the first few episodes of breaking bad (ducks for cover). Perhaps knowing some of the characters and where they will end up is assisting in that.
Also enjoyed the fact Jimmy already picked up the "don't run, everybody expects you to run" idea. I'll be very curious to see where he gets the idea for Saul Goodman and the better call Saul catch phrase.

Ah got it. I was racking my brain and had never heard of some disease that would cause electronics to actually affect a person in the way he was apparently experiencing.
Mental illness also explains Hamelin being a dick milking his existence since he can't recognize what's actually wrong with himself and as such very likely will never improve

'Mr. Banks Wins an Emmy'. I guess Five-O works as an episode name a well...
One thing I never expected from this series was that moment in an episode that I realized I wasn't breathing. The last 20 minutes were almost perfect.
That was like watching a superhero origin story.
Could throw around superlatives all night, but I'll just leave it there. freak it, that was easily one of the best hours of my life wasted since BB ended.

Funny how it's sort of - parallel to Walt's story. Jimmy tried to be legit, but is unsuccessful and bored. He finds that being a crook is exciting.

It seems like Jimmy has always been sort of a con man though. The flashback of him ripping the dude off for the fake Rolex showed signs of that.
I liked them showing him in that big, flashy office space when we know he ends up in the strip mall. Watching him turn into Saul Goodman will be great.
-
Could Kim be one of Saul's ex wives he mentions on BB? Wouldn't shock me in the least if she was.

Funny you mention that. Not that much time between now and the beginning of BB, and we haven't heard anything about him being married before on BCS.

I think it's roughly 6 years between BCS and the beginning of BB? Plenty of time to get married and divorced several times over.

-
Chuck is going to betray Jimmy
or

Probably a combination of both.
HHM claims ownership of the case, and Chuck doesn't fight it/goes along with it. "My contract says blah blah blah my hands are tied."
It has to be something that would cause Jimmy to give up the family name.
-
Well we already know he doesn't get millions. Something is going to happen to push him over the edge and decide to become a full time crook.
-
Chuck is going to betray Jimmy
or
HH&M is going to steal the case because Kim used Chuck's printing code
What Badger said, bascially a mixture of both, was my first thought.

Nah it was pretty much a given. The show is a bit too predictable knowing the Breaking Bad back story.

That's why I try not to deconstruct the episode or listen to theories. I like enjoying it for what it is. I used to follow the BB subreddit and read those seppinwall reviews after each BB episode, but don't feel the need here.

Does Chuck's betrayal facilitate Jimmy's name change to Saul Goodman?

Yeah I am hoping once the cats out of the bag and he doesn't want his last name anymore because his brother is a piece of excrement, the show can do a lot more things. The Mike episode was great but you had to be monumentally dumb not to know how it would all unfold. Thankfully, there is a whole world that opens up with Mike, once that predictable excrement was over with.
I will be honest, I would rather have a spin off about Mike than Saul. He is awesome.
-
Does Chuck's betrayal facilitate Jimmy's name change to Saul Goodman?
Yeah I just wrote as much without seeing your post. I bet he will not want that name any longer to make his own way and because his brother is a douche.

Lester and Trevor from Grand Theft Auto were in last night's episode
-
I will be honest, I would rather have a spin off about Mike than Saul. He is awesome.
It is sort of evolving into a spinoff for both characters though, which is great.
The hispanic drug dealer that wanted to rob the Kettleman's is probably going to be the "villain" - I really hope that Saul goes after Hamlin. That guy is such a huge prick.

Sepinwall put forth that Hamlin wasn't really the prick he was made out to be, he is taking one for the team (Chuck). I actually think that's mostly true. Look at the backtrack he did when Kim called him out:
The episode doesn't really try to hide Chuck's role in screwing over Jimmy, first letting us see him making a clandestine call on Jimmy's cell phone(*), then making clear that something is up with Howard through his scene with Kim and her scene with Jimmy. And many of you were already speculating last week that it was Chuck, not Howard, who didn't want Jimmy working as an associate in the firm. (In hindsight, maybe Howard really is the good guy he keeps insisting he is?)

His hands are tied, he's gigantic douchebag but the villain in all this is Chuck. If it wasn't for Chuck, Gilligan laid the groundwork that Jimmy would probably have had his office there.

I'm not sure if we should hate Chuck though.
I mean the University of American Samoa (GO LANDCRABS!!) unfortunately probably isn't a far cry from the fourth tier pooper I'm currently attending. So if anyone should despise Chuck's attitude...
but in the case of Jimmy, isn't he right? Didn't he predict EXACTLY what would happen? All one needs to do is go back to Breaking Bad to see the cheap chicanery Saul would get himself in too. Maybe it could've been avoided had Chuck not been a malignant lover of the older lady. But I mean he called it.
-
Jimmy was a crook/conman before he became a lawyer. Chuck didn't call anything. He just doesn't trust Jimmy anymore and he also doesn't see him as an equal.
Being an ambulance chaser was just all just a cover for the bigger, shadier deals he was doing with Gustavo Fring.
-
That's the tragedy. With Chuck's help he could've been on the straight and narrow. Instead he had to fend for himself and found that being a shifty lawyer is what he's good at.
-
This show is funbags. I seriously wouldn't mind seeing bad things to happen to Chuck - like a cell phone "frying his brain" - or maybe just starving to death in his tin-foiled home.
Odenkirk plays an amazing role - but like many others have voiced, I think a show about about Mike would have been better. At least he's playing a significant role.
The acting and plot have been top notch as usual.

Treat a man like excrement long enough and he'll start to act out that belief. It's natural.
Chuck took all of Jimmy's help while his head was whacked out and what did he give back to him? The same rejection he had given him years earlier. That's about as cold as a person can be. Hamlin may be a jerk, but he's not near Chuck.

I don't think the feds are who he's really worried about. Ignacio ("Nacho") is the guy he's afraid of when Walt and Jesse kidnap him in Breaking Bad.
He says something in Spanish like "I'm a friend of the cartel's. It was Ignacio, not me."

I will give Vince Gilligan one thing: he constantly makes you question who you should root for and who's the "good" guys and who's the "bad" guys.
Great first season. I said it in the tv shows thread, episode 6 was amazing and Jonathon Banks was on fire. The episode where he protected the meds guy was awesome too. Bob Odenkirk is a very, hate to say this word because he's been nominated for awards, underrated actor. His comedic timing is pretty spot on but his dramatic acting was fantastic.
This will be the first time I watch a serious show in present time since The Sopranos. No joke. It's gonna be weird.

I don't think it's that he makes people question who they should root for, but he gets rid of the whole good/bad guy cliche. There's no such thing in real life. We all do some fucked up excrement sometimes. Humans are all flawed. That's what makes it real.

I think the problem is that you're looking at them relative to your own lives. Walter White's progression was gradual, so he didn't suddenly turn into a "monster". His first few murders were really hard for him, and they were done out of necessity. He then became sort of desensitized by everything. You can't really judge a character like that because they're living a life completely different from yours. Who knows what you would've done had you chosen the same path.

No, I'm looking at them as fictional freaking characters. Walter White evolved into villain.

Um...
Wut?
-
Um...
Wut?
Your family needs money. People are trying to kill you and them. You wouldn't poison a kid to save yourself and your family? That's impossible to answer truthfully because you're not in that situation. Being able to judge is a human quality. Also, making that decision is also very human.
That's the genius of the show.
-
Tommy. You know Breaking Bad was, for the most part, about a year in real time for those "characters."
Walt only cared about himself the entire time. I actually stuck through it with him until I knew he poisoned that kid on purpose. And...that's after all the other despicable excrement he'd already done.
The Jesse, Saul/Jimmy and Mike characters, to me, are fucked up people but they have ethics, they care about the people around them. Walt, you want to believe he was helping his family, that he cared about the people around him...that's just not true. He only cared about himself.
-

You think his family had anything to do with anything at that point?

They're the whole reason he started. He also cared about Jesse and tried to help him. He could've just let Gus kill him and went about his business.

He only cared about himself.

Yeah, it was about his family the first couple of cooks, that was about it.

While I generally respect your opinion, I think this is a horrible analogy.

Sarcasm bih
Tommy still wrong tho
-
Walter White's progression was gradual, so he didn't suddenly turn into a "monster". His first few murders were really hard for him, and they were done out of necessity. He then became sort of desensitized by everything. You can't really judge a character like that because they're living a life completely different from yours. Who knows what you would've done had you chosen the same path.
You're not wrong except in somehow thinking that all that doesn't makes him a villain.
-
In Tommy's defense... Walt cared deeply about his family, and even after he went full tilt he saved Jesse's life, at his own expense.
I don't know why this is hard for people to see, he even said it himself.
The only reason he "cared" so much about Jesse is because he'll do anything Walt asks. "Saving" him was the least he could do considering he'd already ruined every aspect of his life.
-

It was still a purely good action. There was nothing in it for Walt.
No it doesn't make up for the rest of it, but it stands on its own.

Walt was smart enough to know he ruined his life. He tells Gus straight out "he'll do anything I tell him to do." Like I said, saving him was the least he could do. Jesse had just watched his girlfriend, ex-girlfriend (whatever), get blasted in the back of the head and was basically being used as a slave by the end. Why wouldn't Walt let him go?
I'm of the mind, Walt was going full tilt, and Jesse just happened to be there.
-
Meh, I rooted for Walt the entire time. His wife was a queynte, Jesse was a little bitch, and his in laws were self righteous and annoying. Sometimes you just gotta cook some meth.

When did he talk about his previous life in breaking bad? I only vaguely remember him referencing his ex wives or something.

What can you tell us about the rest of the season? What can you say about Mike’s path for the rest of the season?
Violence.

I love this series. What makes it better is that we know Mike is going to be around for its entirety.

Easily the most enjoyable show on TV right now, they can't put enough Mike story lines in there. "playuh"...... "I am not getting in that thing."

I would say Mike is pretty far gone by the time Jimmy is managing the Cinnabon. I get what you mean though.

Yeah, but going from a crooked cop to professional hitman is a pretty big step. Sort of like Walt and Jesse going from drug dealers to actual murderers. Well, more so in Walt's case.

Um...he killed two cops in Philly before he arrived in New Mexico. Regardless of why he did it, I'm sure that wasn't the first time he's killed someone outside of the job. Why do you think he's so good at what he does?

It really sucks that something bad is going to happen between Jimmy and Kim.
Kim saying that she is from a small town somewhere between Nebraska and Kansas has to be meaningful.
I'm almost certain the Cinnabon that Saul manages is in Nebraska...

I actually really like the Kim character vs Skyler who was annoying as freak. She tries to keep Jimmy from his true self in a way SKyler didn't.
-
Also they still haven't gotten to Saul yet so conceivably they can have more than 2-3 seasons of story to go. The writers really like "Jimmy" and might stretch it out even more before the turn to pure a "Saul" story.

Kim Wexler the character is freaking great. Too bad I can guarantee there isn't a female lawyer...or female in general alive with that much chill.
Anyone else feel like they're setting it up so that Mike is responsible for Hectors stroke? Also, what happens to Nacho between now and the end of the series? Does he die or just vanish?

I was wondering that myself. He seems like the most level headed guy in that crew, so I can imagine him getting capped in some sort of power struggle after Hector has a stroke.
-
I think Tuco kills him.
-
Whatever happens, the show is great and last night's episode was fantastic. Kim Wexler FTW. It was nice to see Chuck get put in his place. Not that it needed to be said, but Mike is freaking awesome. I knew it was coming, but the way he did it? So calm.
-
That was a fantastic episode from start to finish.
-
One thing that lingers in the back of mind is that phrase: half measures. Mike doesn't kill Tuco, doesn't kill the ice cream truck driver. We all know what happens to Mike, but it makes me wonder what happens with those two occurrences. There's no way for the driver to identify Mike though. The car behind the sign, maybe?
-

The shot of the driver looking at Mike's car seems very deliberate. The guy has to identify Mike, because that's the only legitimate reason to advance the Mike/Salamanca plot.
-
Mike steals a quarter mil from those guys, I can't think of a way it ends well if they find out. My guess is if they do end it well and he lives, he can come at them with a security angle, as in he can fix their excrement security. Other than that the old man Tio, will execute Mike at the drop of the hat.
-

Agreed there. Based on the preview, I would assume that mike is taking shots at Salamanca and that somehow leads to his stroke.
From this whole scenario, I think Mike learns to never go with half measures, because of the dead "Good Samaritan" he realized by letting the bad guys live, that he put innocents in harms way. I think that dead guy will be huge in Mikes development.

It reminds me of what Gilligan did with the titles in the second season of Breaking Bad. They did it because he'll be back in the finale.

They basically said as much in Talking Saul. Jimmy didn't want to see him suffering. I would assume that scene and the resulting epiphany Jimmy will have about his brother being as big a con man as he is, will turn him into Saul. Unless they have some kind of plea deal where Jimmy can't use that last name any longer.
-
It's not like in this locale it's hard for people to see what's going on. These are pretty desolate areas here.
Another point that it wasn't Nacho:
He would have to be followed. In the middle of the afternoon, in a desert type area, I challenge anyone to find someone a half a mile away or more that is in a mostly concealed position or prone position. You would have to know that person is there, know what you're looking for and using binoculars and even then it isn't certain.
Nobody in that shack had binoculars or looked to be looking. I doubt Nacho had a tail on Mike, someone else did. They probably were watching him for sometime. But it's a tv show and am probably over thinking it.

Yahoo- The general idea behind Better Call Saul is that it takes place before Breaking Bad and couldn’t feature many of the characters from the show that we grew to love. Jesse Pinkman in his early form could make an appearance, but not with a huge impact, and it’s very possible we could end up seeing many of the supporting characters pop their head in. But the idea of Walter White and family making an appearance is a stretch. But that’s not stopping many from dreaming and isn’t stopping Bryan Cranston was staying positive. If the phone rang and there was a way to do it, he’d play Walter White again in a heartbeat: “I owe Vince Gilligan so much. He was my champion to get this role. I was the guy coming off Malcolm in the Middle…“‘If they were to call me and say, ‘We have this idea, we’d like … ,’ I would say, ‘Yes, you don’t have to finish the pitch. I’m there, what do you want me to do?’” Now don’t expect “stunt casting” or some cheap appearance. Gilligan would likely have a plan in place for any Walter White appearances, but he’d be far from “the one who knocks” that people fell in love with by the end of the series.

We just agree to disagree. The Leftovers is excellent, I find BCS more entertaining while just as well made and I like it a little more.
Also the Leftovers very well maybe considered groundbreaking, I just don't think that is material to its being more entertaining. For instance:
The Sopranos is considered groundbreaking and studied to this day and I would watch BCS over that crap 1 million times out of Million. It's the single most over rated show ever made.

That was brilliant TV.
Indeed it was.

BCS is a spinoff of the greatest show ever made. Without that legacy, I doubt it ever gets greenlit, much less multiple seasons, even much less have a dedicated thread here.
With that said, the acting and writing is absolutely top notch. It is one of my favorite shows.
The Leftovers is my favorite show at the moment. The quality is very similar, but on a much grander scale. After 4 more episodes, I'll be waiting for Game of Thrones, Legion and Westworld to return. I tend to prefer more epic stories.

freaking hell, what a show. Edge of my seat that entire episode.
Heismanberg mentioned it before, but Michael McKean has to be one of the all-time best TV villains and this episode was his showcase. Watching him coldly rehearsing his "I love my brother" speech and then that final monologue... wow.
AND HUELL!!!
-
I disagree. I love both shows, but when it's all said and done, The Leftovers will be considered a once in a generation type of masterpiece. It's something that will be studied and discussed for years and years.

S'all good, man.
So, is this where he starts giving legal advice without a license?
Have they mentioned how many seasons they are doing? I was wondering if Tuco having to do more time was an inside joke for them getting another season renewed.

That was some vintage, Mr. Show Odenkirk right there.

Just caught up with the last episode. The "new kid" who Krazy 8 mentioned got spooked by the police and dumped his stash in the gutter couldn't have been Jesse, could it?

If Jesse got into the business around the time he got out of highschool the dates for the show certainly add up.

The "Nacho/placebo" thing seems too obvious to me...there's gotta be something else to it.
-
Wow...is that the beginning of the end regarding Kim/Jimmy?
-
That episode sucked.
It's setting up the downfall of Jimmy, the beginning of the end for Jimmy and Kim, and watching Jimmy's life fall apart before our eyes sucks. That last jab/attack at Chuck is going to set the rest of this in motion.
If only Chuck hadn't taped Jimmy, who knows what would have happened to Jimmy McGill, but it wasn't going to be Walter White and Breaking Bad.

I said to the wife, this is becoming like Sith. It cannot end well, when Kim said that one sentence to the Mesa Verde girl, I was so pissed.

There's a tiny thing that kills it for me with this show. It's supposed to be set in 2001 but no one bothered to notify the costume design people. Clothes were definitely baggier back then, especially suits, but everyone dresses like they do in 2017.
I sound like a bundle of sticks don't I.

Great episode. So much setup perfectly for the last 2 episodes of the season.
-
Damn. Hamlin just threw down the gauntlet pretty cold blooded.
-
I hate to say it but I saw that coming from a mile away.
Jimmy really pulled some bush league excrement making the old ladies hate their friend. That was real scummy.
-
I've gone back and watched a lot of the key scenes in the last three episodes and it's awesome how great the acting is and how precise the attention to detail is. Everybody, from Odenkirk to Michael Mando to the old ladies to the editing at the end of episode nine is freaking top notch. Rhea Seehorn's Kim Wexler almost redeems the fact there were no strong female characters in BB. And, who knew Hamlin would become the kind of character he has become? When I first started watching this, I didn't give a excrement about Nacho, now I'm watching the scene between him and his father about Hector and it's absolutely riveting.
I admittedly don't watch a lot of tv, but if this show isn't nominated for almost every acting, writing, directing, editing award I'd be stunned.

Yeah that didn't sit well with me. When she won the prize and ran off crying. It's not often I feel bad for a fictional character or real person.

I still can't get over how off the wardrobe is on this show. No one dresses like they did in 2001.

I think what we saw on Monday, and I try to leave spoilers out of this thread, was the real transformation to Saul Goodman. He's always conned people, but he never really conned people like Helen. Did he do the Sandpiper people a favor? Possibly. But was anything other than his own well being really what he cared about? Nope. Hamlin called it like he saw it when Jimmy confronted him and he hit the nail on the head.
I hate to keep bringing up Sith, but he just lost the light saber battle to Obi-Wan, all that's left is the Vader mask. I think with what happened with Kim will bring it all to a head, too.

It's kind of funny to me how the most honest person on the show is Hamlin, who's made it to be the bad guy.

If you're gonna make a BB comparison, he's kinda like the Hank Schrader of BCS. I didn't want to like Hank at all and his judgment has shown to be pretty accurate.

Let's be honest. Nacho in season 1 of BB was one of the most transformative moments of Walts life, and arguably the best episode of the season in retrospect. His contribution to BCS better net him a golden trinket of some sort. Easily my favorite character this season.
Going to refer to Jimmy as Saul from here on out. He became Saul on his last community service scene. It's taken a lot more time, but Jimmy has broken bad. The whole Helen thing was almost hard to watch.

Yeah, caught the crazy 8 store. The bottle of no-doz in Kim's car, too. The placement in these shows are always awesome.

Not surprised Gus saved Hector. As soon as he arrived on the scene, I figured he would. Still a great scene.
R.I.P. David St. Hubbins, if this is the end. And I can't imagine that it's not the end for Chuck - I don't think the writers would do a scene like that and then have everything be fine. Plus, it makes a lot of sense to help push Jimmy into becoming Saul.

She has a sweet derriere.

I think it was a good time to finish Chuck's story arc. 3 seasons of that was enough. I wonder what his will looks like?
Gus saving Hector was a given. Hector hasn't suffered enough.
Did they ever mention how many seasons they planned on doing?

No and it has not been renewed yet either. (no sarcasm it has not been renewed.)

Well obviously everything will not be fine, but Chuck could survive and spend the rest of his disfigured burn victim life in a psych hospital and that would be just about as devastating as his death would be.

No and it has not been renewed yet either. (no sarcasm it has not been renewed.)
Let's assume it will be - I think 5 seasons would be the sweet spot.

Yeah probably in that area, I think they are hammering out how many seasons more. I can't imagine it wont be renewed.

Random Thoughts:
Chuck's a goner , Gilligan doesn't do half assed crap like that.
I wonder what is going to happen with his 9 million dollars.
Nacho's dad didn't have a long life expectancy with Don Hector alive and well.
Gus figured it out, he knows what happened to Hector.
Kim knew what Jimmy did with the old ladies and was completely cool with it. Lol Everyone on this show has a dark side that they embrace.
I hope they find a way to keep Howard on the show. I am completely sick of Chuck, his story line, with the exception of Howard.

To be fair, Kim didn't get to see it like we did. She just heard it secondhand from Jimmy. Not as impactful.
-
I've seen some theories that Kim will get hooked on the pain killers, break bad herself, and be the straw that breaks Jimmy/Saul's back. I'm not sure I buy that. If anything I see Howard approaching her at some point, professionally wise.

Everything I have read says the writers haven't even figured out exactly how they're getting to where they're obviously going, with the exception of Chuck.
-

I think Kim has to die. As long as she exists, Jimmy is going to wobble back and forth between Saul and Jimmy. Chucks death is going to send him teetering closer, and we are going to hear Jimmy remembering chucks last words to him over and over again in Season four. I think one of Jimmys schemes will be what ultimately gets Kim killed. We hear the voiceover of Chuck saying "it will always lead to everyone around you getting hurt. If you just embraced that, everything could be ok" or whatever he actually said. Then we get a montage of Jimmy putting on the colored suits, and working to embrace the Saul mentality with Kim dead and working to become what Chuck always saw him as, a charlatan, Saul Goodman will be born in earnest.
I think season four ends with the inadvertent death of Kim, and season five becomes the descent into Saul, and the series ends with his first appearance in the series of breaking bad.
-
I just rewatched the season finale and I have to say...Michael McKean's acting is top freaking notch. To the tone of his voice to facial reactions to Hamlin's goodbye to his cold blooded "goodbye" to his brother to his deterioration into madness...just amazing. Gould has said in so many words that Chuck does indeed die in the fire so if that was his departure from the show, he deserves an Emmy.
Also, Kim..."always pick the good stuff"...nothing Gould/Gilligan does on this show is a coincidence, nothing. Maybe there will be some credence to the painkiller theory. Also, didn't pick this up the other night, that cheesy 80s song, "Steal Away" playing at the mall while Jimmy's talking to the 3 Sandpiper ladies, damn. No coincidences.
-
The score to that scene was amazing.
Getting to listen to the volume a lot louder this morning I have to completely agree with this. Very Kubrick-esque.

The Leftovers is finished. It's three seasons. I think you'll love it based on what you watch when it comes to TV and movies, but the first season is incredibly bleak. It becomes an all-time classic series (in my opinion) in the second and third seasons.

Not that anyone seems to care but the last 10 minutes of this episode perfectly encapsulate this show. Nacho taking his frustrations out and Gus systematically destroying a store. Jimmy becoming Saul so much more, can’t wait to see the last 3 episodes.

This season has been great imo.

Just re-watched last night’s episode and what an episode. This season has been superb. I wonder what Gilligan and Gould have in mind for Howard. They do nothing on accident, he’s still around for a reason. What a tirade by Jimmy though. Very Walter White-esque.

Episode 8 babbie, no spoilers, I can't wait for it based on his cryptic, "it was the most difficult episode I ever directed."
https://variety.com/2020/tv/features/better-call-saul-season-5-showrunner-peter-gould-vince-gilligan-1203510585/ (https://variety.com/2020/tv/features/better-call-saul-season-5-showrunner-peter-gould-vince-gilligan-1203510585/)
What’s been hinted as potentially the highlight of the season will come with Episode 8, “Bagman,” an opus directed by Gilligan. Gould calls it “physically, a very difficult episode for us to do.”
“Vince said several times to me that it was the hardest directing [he has] ever done. When you see it, you’ll understand why. As this season goes on, ‘Better Call Saul’ as a show, for better or for worse, changes a bit. And we go to some new places,” he explains.

I’m not done with this episode yet but damn. This show is at its best right now.
-
Wasn’t the episode I was expecting but a master class in acting from Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks. About as close to “Fly” as you’re gonna get in BCS.
-
This is every bit as good as Breaking Bad
-
The episode last night was freaking fantastic. It reminded me a bit of NCFOM, which is one of my favorite movies. Pretty much everyone attached to the show is nailing it. I am enjoying this season as much as any. I honestly enjoy this more than Breaking Bad.
It's too bad Lalo is going to buy the farm, he's been the most interesting Salamanca by far. That actor is killing it whichever scene he's in, "you'll love my cousins, they're great guys." and the scene with Kim, where he just didn't give three shits was awesome.
-

Yeah Gilligan said this was the most difficult episode he ever had to direct. I guess he meant literally, they were out in the middle of the freaking desert. I was expecting a main character to get killed. Still loved it.

I really hope this is the season this cast gets recognized for its work. The acting is amazing. Tony Dalton as Lalo is a hoot, the guy is always the coolest in the room and Kim going to see him. I was shaking my head the second I knew what she was doing. Mike gives a speech right there with his half measures speech from BB. Plus, the Mylar blankets...this show with its symbolism is impeccable. I don’t watch a lot TV but this is gonna be a show that goes down in the annals of Television and it’s at its peak right now. These idiot Emmy people better make it right.

Don't count on the Emmy people, not at all. Just enjoy it and don't get mad when it wins literally nothing.
It's the best show currently on tv. That said, the Emmy's is a excrement show, especially if you look at some of the dreck that seems to win year in and year out.
Lalo is in sharp contrast to Tuco, "he's got some temper". lol It's too bad because had they introduced that character sooner he would have had some measure of protection as well. They have introduced more than a few characters they liked so much they didn't want to get rid of them, even though they had plans to.

It’s just hard to believe that there’s still 2 more episodes left after how intense and how much has been put on the table in the past 3 or 4 episodes. I loved watched Chuck slowly unravel, that had been my favorite season, but this is head and shoulders the best season.
-
Just watched “Bagman” again and holy excrement, how good has this show gotten?
-
Bob Odenkirk’s acting is top notch right now. And Mike with his logic. Their relationship is funny.
-
Well...that was about as nerve wracking as television gets there. Jesus.
-
Kim Wexler is the best character in the Breaking Bad Universe. She is the un-Skyler. Every episode I'm just mesmerized by what Rhea Seehorn has done with that role.
-
Season finale is titled “Something Unforgivable.”

Last episode was great tv, I am enjoying this show more than BB. They're 2 separate entities at this point but I am enjoying this more. The hour plus seems like 10 minutes even with the slow burn and tension building. Speaking of which, the last 2 episodes made it all worthwhile.
Kim is now "in the game", whoops. Rhea Seehorn took over that episode. She won't win an Emmy because there are more deserving actress's like Emmilia Clark or Linday Lohan.
I hope they keep Lalo around for a bit, he's the most interesting Salamanca by a country mile, Dalton is doing an fantastic job. From all accounts he is running away with the character and pretty much owns every scene when he's on screen. Although, he did take a back seat to Rhea this episode as opposed to last.

I have read so many recaps and extensive interviews about season 5 but season 6 is gonna be one of the greatest seasons of any show ever. I think it was puck who said but Gould and Gilligan (who’s gonna be the most he’s ever been involved with this show) don’t even know where they’re gonna go. An interviewer asked him if he’s always a mile ahead, story wise, and he laughed and said that they’re only 3 inches ahead. You can see his gears grinding towards the end of this interview. The wait is gonna be excruciating. Plus, how does the Gene Takovic tale end?

Not sure when we'll get the sixth season, but I don't want this universe to end.
I will say that I'm excited for whatever these guys do next. They'll always have my full attention.

Finally sat down and binged the first 5 seasons in anticipation of season 6.
Lalo Salamanca is the freaking man, I wish we saw him in BB.

those cunts at AMC have taken down the first 6 episodes off the on-demand. Not impressed.

This is why I've been over a season behind on BCS for 3-4 years. AMC is awful at streaming.
