Let's get the Bacardi Breecer signed today.

Jets put 5 players on PUP list:
T Mekhi Becton
T George Fant
TE C.J. Uzomah
DE Carl Lawson
G Dru Samia
All five players are eligible to attend meetings and use the facility. Currently all PUP players remain on the active roster but can be removed at any time.

I’d expect this is true, I was surprised Ruckert (who they announced the other day isn’t healthy yet) and Sherwood weren’t also on their given their injury issues
Responding in a different thread, but based on the Jets' website, it looks like Ruckert has already been removed from the NFI list and is listed with the full team.
PUP list remains the same.
-
Early positive signs around Becton's weight.
Outside of Zach, I think Becton is the most important player on the team. If he turns into a Pro Bowl caliber OT this year, the offensive line can be really good, and if the offensive line is really good, then there's really no excuse for this offense to fail unless Zach stinks.

He was Kyler's backup for a bit so it isn't like he is a total scrub. He was the primary backup for an NFL team. Doesn't make him good but he could be a kind of 4th QB guy where if we trade/cut White, maybe Streveler can be on call as the next man up if Flacco or Zach go down.

Which is my point, scout team /PS guy for helping us train against mobile qbs like Jackson and Allen. There’s already a debate about us keeping 3 qbs. No way we keep 3 and a PS QB on top of it. This dude is just media trying to make nothing into something before camp begins

Any locals planning on attending the ones open to the public?

As far as Streveler goes...don't get your hopes up. He's awesome at carrying the football, but his accuracy stinks. I'm sure once he accumulates enough years in the NFL for an NFL pension, he'll jump back to the CFL.

Mims needs to show out so we can trade him
-
The other option with Mims is to keep him and groom him to replace Corey Davis next year. We can save a lot of money if we cut Corey Davis, and if the Jets think this Mims development is real, we could opt for that plan with him and decide after 2023 what to do with Mims. Most likely, there isn't a big role for Mims here in 2022, but last year, Davis and Moore both missed time, and Wilson is a rookie, so no guarantee he is ready right away.

Someone always gets hurt. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to hold onto Mims. If they were to trade him, what would they get… a 4th or 5th? I’d rather just hold onto him.

Think about how many receiver injuries we've dealt with in recent years. You can't place too high a premium on depth.

Zach Wilson would’ve been sacked on three different plays in third down 11-on-11, twice by Bryce Huff and once by Vinny Curry.

From Rosenblatt. Not a surprise, he's been out of football for a year and essentially redshirted his second season. Hopefully he can shake off the dust sooner rather than later.

Not sure why 2010 just never happened for some people. I've been to TCs at Hofstra, Cortland, and Florham Park, and the 2010 one was definitely the one with the most buzz. I like the feeling of the current team but it's entirely untapped potential right now.

Was it JE complaining about side arm throws or was that someone else?
Me? Complaining? That doesn't sound right.
(Yes it was, although this isn't really egregious. I mostly dislike desperation throws with a low point of release that mean less accuracy and a greater chance of being knocked down or worse. I'd prefer the Brady approach in those situations of curling up in a ball, resetting, and having another go.)

I would think that being able to release the ball from a variety of arm angles would make it less likely to be knocked down, no?
-
I would think that being able to release the ball from a variety of arm angles would make it less likely to be knocked down, no?
Generally I'm talking about the kind of sidearm throws that QBs make because they've got a grill full of lineman, and they're trying to get the ball out to avoid the sack. That means they're releasing below shoulder height and it doesn't take much of an outstretched arm to get in the way. Too often it feels like a high risk, low reward throw to make - Fitz was bad for it.
-

Funny take. In Brady's defense, curling up is the preferred option when you're on the far side of 40.
That said: check out Brady beasting in his own right by bouncing right back up after being jacked--big sack impressive:

If McDermott is actually hurt, backup OT goes from a major need to an even more major need. If Brown was a 1 for 1 replacement for McDermott, it becomes even more important if he is really hurt.

Brown replaces either whether there’s an injury or not. The injury (especially if it’s NOT severe) shouldn’t affect Brown

Why is he throwing that sidearm? It's hard to see perspective properly there but it looks like Huff could have got a hand on it if he'd reacted differently. That's not a criticism of the lineman or what he did, but of the fact that needlessly throwing the ball on a trajectory that could be blocked just seems to have little sensible reason other than "look how cool this looks in slo mo".

Prison rules. Always throw down with the toughest looking guy in the yard on day 1, that way people know you're not to be fucked with.
Also, Hermanns has a couple of inches and 30lbs on Clemons. He's probably no pushover.

A. It does indeed look cool.
B. A higher point of release on a short/mid pass means reducing velocity, allowing more time for a DB to close the gap on the receiver. So in some situations it's actually advantageous.

I hate that throw. So much could go wrong.
Just run out of bounds, or go Bradyturtle, reset, and have another go. I don't think that the fact that one of the best QBs in the league playing in one of the most innovative offenses in the league can pull it off is a good reason for our guy to be adopting it. Let's worry about aspiring to the dizzying heights of "mediocre" or "not an embarrassment" by playing smart, high percentage football before we start advocating this kind of creativity, eh?

Not saying it was because of the cutesy excrement but Mahomes did have a much higher number of turnovers than your typical Elite QB last year. And Mahomes probably is more talented than all of them, with likely the best supporting cast (at least prior to this year)

Defender was legitimately about to leave his feet stop to deflect the pass. Stop unnecessarily whining that you think it looks "flashy."

I can't disagree JE. Was never a fan of the Bernie Kozar school of chucking it 2nd baseman style. Besides it's not really conducive to getting that ring/middle/index finger 'wipe' you get with pronating the forearm correctly.

Yeah, I thought they'd shed Davis first but I guess he saved his job for now. Looks like Pinnock has passed him on the depth chart so #H2p
-
Ashtyn Davis ...should... at least be a solid special teams player because of his speed and physicality. He is not a great fit in the Cover 3 that Saleh and Ulbrich installed when they got here.
I'd be pretty frustrated if someone like Will Parks made the 53 over Davis. For those final few spots, they should be upside picks. Davis is still young, he has elite straight line speed, and he isn't afraid of contact.
Lamarcus Joyner was our worst safety on Monday night.
-
Interestingly, I've seen the exact opposite sentiment from people believing it would be a shame if we kept Davis over Parks.

Will Parks is a 28 year old journeyman defensive back that made a couple tackles against practice squad level talent.
I don't understand wanting to keep him over Davis unless Davis just doesn't care about football or something.
Davis started for an NFL defense and made some good plays. Fans fixate on his bad plays but fail to acknowledge those mistakes came in actual football games, not the second half of preseason games.

Greg the Leg went 6 for 6 today including a 60 yarder.

Fan here: consider those mistakes acknowledged.
Dude takes some of the worst angles in run support I've ever seen from a safety and repeatedly turned 5-10 yard runs into 30+ yard back-breakers. I'll defer to your expertise on his coverage responsibilities and concede that there might not be better options on the roster, but in my book, he's a liability who takes the safe out of safety.

If we are depending on a free safety that much in run support, that's on the linebackers and Ulbrich.
As a third safety/nickel hybrid, he's fine. He's fast and he hits.

You need to be able to prepare your team. Injuries happen. I think joint practices are smart. Some teams prefer them over preseason games because they are more controlled. I think I do, too.

Do you practice this level of pedantry or does it come naturally?
We don't do this during the regular season so what's the point of the distinction you're making?

I think he's a PS guy. With Mims almost certainly out, I expect us to carry 5 WRs with Smith being #5 as hes a better ST guy than Jackson, who might have proven to be a better WR than Smith this camp.
We need to cut 'corners' somewhere to save some of the talent at our more stacked positions (depth wise) like CB and DL. I'll probably be bored and do a 53 man roster prediction tomorrow after the Jets/Giants game.

What are you talking about? There is a legit distinction between the two. Practices are a much more controlled environment with less stakes involved (wins and losses). They are similar but not the same at all.

i know the 2020 draft is looking like more and more of a mess by the day, but willing to give JD a pass given he was working with a completely incompetent staff coming in, and if i'm not mistaken he kept the incumbent draft/scouting infrastructure in place before bringing in his guys after.
he's really filled the fillers/depth of this squad with interesting young talent who also happen to be very easy to root for. will be interested to see if he can get anything meaningful from other teams for our leftovers

I like most of what Douglas has done here, but I need to see more from the 2021-22 classes before I fully call 2020 the outlier.
Still too early to judge the 2021 class fully. It looks like it could be very good, but there are plenty of ways it can fall to mediocre quickly.

Outside of JJ II and Mitchell (merely ‘incomplete’ grades at this point-not busts), the rest of the group looks as advertised with Clemons at #117 looking like a potential steal—what a motor.
Round 1, Pick No. 4: Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner, CB, Cincinnati
Round 1, Pick No. 10: Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State
Round 1, Pick No. 26: Jermaine Johnson II, EDGE, Florida State
Round 2, Pick No. 36: Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State

Round 4, Pick No. 111: Max Mitchell, OT, Louisiana
Round 4, Pick No. 117: Michael Clemons, EDGE, Texas A&M

I love how both the 2021 and 2022 classes look right now. But the 2022 class has yet to play a game, and the 2021 class still has a few ways it can go wrong. I just don't want to fellate Douglas too much when these 2 classes are still more potential than production.
