Jets protected WR Lawrence Cager and CB Javelin Guidry on their practice squad this week #NYJ

CAGE MATCH BABBIE

Sounds like training camp star Lawerence Cager will play this week. Adam Gase said they need anyone with “a pulse” considering the number of WR injuries they have.

Like I said, 1 catch 4 yards.

I am looking forward to watching him block for Berrios and Hogan on screen plays.

I played hoops with a guy named Mike Cager a few years ago, he was pretty good.
Helps nobody, not even the same guy, but thought I'd share.

I imagine Mike Cager will have about as much positive impact for the Jets on field performance this weekend as Lawrence Cager will

Elevated from practice squad. Maybe Perriman’s replacement?

9 catches, 189 yards 4 TDs this week. Possible rushing TD and FG also.

If he had those stats for the season we would be freaking out. If we EVER have a jets player with 4 TDs in a game, or a WR with 189 yards in a single game it will be a freaking miracle

It was surprisingly difficult to find single game records for the team, but apparently it's 228 yards (Maynard in 1968) and 4 TDs (Walker in 1986).

The fact that the NFL is in an unprecedented era of passing the football and our best statistics are from the 60's (Namath and Maynard) and players from nearly 40 years ago is so damn depressing. But hey at least we have guys on the list who have accomplished this before.

The 1986 game was amazing, we beat Miami 51-45 in OT, O'Brien vs Marino. Walker caught a TD over the middle as the clock struck 0:00 to tie the game. Jets received the OT kickoff, almost fumbled it, first or second play was a TD bomb to Walker for the win.

How do you remember excrement like this
I know you well enough to know you recited this from memory, I have to go to the box score to reference what happened last week
-
The 51-45 game is one of those games where I assume older fans remember a lot of the details. Outside the Monday Night Miracle, that might be the most famous regular season game in Jets history. I'm sure I'm missing a couple.

I remember watching it in my dorm, sophomore year at college, one of my good friends was a Miami fan. The rivalry was pretty hot at that time, both teams were coming off a playoff year and it was Week 3. I was also on my college football team and much of my life was invested in football at the time.
The last play there was 0:05 left, we had the ball at about the 35. You'd think they would throw a jump ball, but somehow Walker cut across the middle and made the catch at the goal line to get in. My biggest fear was Leahy would miss the extra point.
You can see the game here:

I have an easier time remember this excrement than I do last week or last year. Probably because I'm getting old, and maybe because I've had all these years to process it, plus it's an all time game people still talk about.
-
I've also entered the phase of remembering games from 10+ years ago better than games from the last few years.

Those jump out because they were wins vs a rival team. Off the top of my head I think of the Oakland game with Hall's FG to make the playoffs in 2001, the Green Bay game to win the division in 2002 and the Cincinnati win or in game in 2009, more because of the significance than the game. There was also the mini-miracle vs New England in 2000, another Vinny comeback at home in Week 2 on MNF.

I can rattle off the NCAA hoop champions of the 80s in short order, couldn't tell you who won it in 2019.

Tall, slow UDFA from last year who some Jets fans wanted to make a thing last year.

1.5 years later - revisiting the WR-turned-TE convert
Granted the below video is scrubs vs. scrubs and there's still another preseason game to go but with the number game (Uzomah, Conklin, Ruckert, Wesco-TE/FB, Yeboah, Cager) any thoughts on how this will shake out?

Can't see Cager breaking through unless he finds a role on ST.

I kinda like him and I'm not sure why.

I like the *idea* of Lawrence Cager.

Pretty cool. I wasn't interested in him as a wide receiver because he was slow and pretty unproductive in college. We were just so desperate for talent in 2020 that some found him appealing.
But I love converting these oversized/slow receivers to tight end if they are willing to put in the work. He's much more appealing as a move tight end than a WR.

He's our new Jeff Cumberland...just a lighter version.

Looking forward to many "freak you Cagey"s on this board in the future
