Not really lol, but still.
Ex-Bears DT Jeremiah Ratliff allegedly claimed "I am the devil" and "wished staff members' children would die" upon his release last week.
Also, according to the police report obtained by TMZ Sports, Ratliff said he "felt like killing everybody in the building" and returned to the facility one time after getting his pink slip. It's pretty safe to say Ratliff, 34, won't be getting another opportunity in football. His career is likely over.

Wow. Per @mortreport, even @ChicagoBears coach John Fox didn’t know about plan to draft QB Mitchell Trubisky until a couple hours before.
Poor Foxy. Haha.

If that is serious, as a coach I'd walk over to the owner and say "Ill be leaving now" and head on home.
You can't have a GM go rogue and draft a QB at 2 without the coach also loving the guy. That's just insane and a recipe for disaster.
-
They better hope Trubisky turns into the next Aaron Rodgers because even I know that trade was fuckn' stupid.

If you offered me my franchise QB of my dreams for 2 third round picks and a 4th rounder I would do that in a nano second.
To secure your guy that is nothing to worry about.
Hell next year if we had to traded 3 1s and 2 3s to go from 2 to 1 for Darnold, id do it in a second

It's more lolGlennon but lolBears for paying him so much. I admit I wasn't against signing Glennon, but I hoped it didn't happen because any team had to have payed him out the yingyang since he was a free agent QB with decent starting experience. Basically, if they cut him next year, it'll have been a $22 million rental.
Probably smart for them to go ahead and cut bait from a mistake early instead of dragging it out. Bad signing, but smart of them to realize it now and act.

Probably. Maybe their OC will get him some quick reads and lean on the RB. I'd stack the excrement out of the box and make him beat me with the passing game.

They don't necessarily want to replace Trubisky, they just want someone good enough to compete with him in the hope that it makes him better. That's all I can think.
-
Nothing about the bears in the last few seasons has told me that any iteration of their front office should be trusted.
-
If Nagy wanted a guy he's worked with before, I get it. But Foles contract is so prohibitive he's literally an underwater asset. Why give up anything meaningful? You want to get the contract off your books and avoid the awkwardness of a pre-ordained competition that everyone knows Minshew is going to win? Here's your conditional 7th, GTFO.

That's quite amusing. The '85 SB was the first football game I ever watched - it was a big thing in the UK because I have a feeling it was the first one ever broadcast live there - so I had no frame of reference as to who or what was good. My only memory of that game is of the Bears being absolutely dominant and The Fridge being the only player anyone cared about because he'd been all over the front page of the tabloids all week, because no one in the UK really had seen an athlete built like him. It's only in subsequent years I've learned that apparently McMahon wasn't actually a very good quarterback; I've never gone back and watched the game again. Maybe I should.

Yes, the Bears threw everything they could at trying to acquire Russell Wilson. The Seahawks didn’t budge.
According to @dpshow

surprised this didn't get it done.

I’d say that if the Seahawks had any shot of getting a reasonable QB back from that deal, they would have said yes

Need to see if we can steal Kyle Fuller from the Bears. He's got a $20M cap hit this year and the Bears need to get under.

They could've involved a 3rd team in the deal
How? Let's just use as an example, what would we need to get out of the deal to give up #2 to allow Seattle to give up Wilson?
In this scenario, Jets give up #2 and Chicago gets Russel Wilson. What compensation would you need to do that?
Allen Robinson, Khalil Mack #20 and what else? Oh and what does Chicago have left to give to Seattle, because they aren't giving up Rus for just #2.
-

Or Wilson isn't really that disgruntled. Their window with him hasn't closed.

I wouldn't. But you wanted a 3 way trade to get Russel Wilson to Chicago. I used us as the example as we have the "premium QB Pick" that teams theoretically covet.

The #2 only gets included if it's Watson....otherwise think of better scenarios

It would open up so many opportunities to draft or even trade for a franchise quarterback

i can't believe they call him the red rifle

I mean, they've said from the second they drafted Fields that Dalton is the Week 1 starter, so it's not a surprise Dalton is starting. Of course, if Fields were lighting it up, he'd probably be starting Week 1. Then again, Justin Herbert didn't start Week 1 last year, and then he lit up the NFL.

Mack is 30 years old....I wouldn't give more than a conditional 6th that could go up to a 5th if he reaches specific totals.
I know he's 30. A lot of edge rushers remain good into their 30's.
But with our need, cap space, and draft capital, it could make sense to get Mack. It might be one year early on our rebuild, but I think next year is a year we need to try to actually win.
I think he costs more than a conditional 6th into a 5th. But I don't think he'll cost as much as his name suggests. I would offer a 4th and see what happens.
-
I’d take Mack for a late rounder.
It gives draft flexibility up top and gets us depth there too.
Carl Lawson has always been hurt. I hope he pans out, but he is an injury prone player. It’s just what he is.
Mack would at least provide some veteran stability at EDGE.
With that said, if we’re going to acquire an EDGE this off-season, it’s hopefully Danielle Hunter.

I would imagine it's pretty crucial to understand a player's background and motivations. He's being fired for the shitty shorthand being made public, not for actually finding the information out.
And anyway it's probably a convenient excuse to use as part of the process of a new GM cleaning house.

I get that, I'm just saying something like this going public doesn't look good, but it's not the worst freaking thing imaginable.
If he was a marketing or a PR dude sure you fire them over this. But I don't think this is bad enough that you fire someone over this unless you actually wanted to fire them to begin with (I will say firing your draft scout's right after the draft is probably the best time to do it anyway)

Yeah, instant relationship ender.
On another note, those old school Bears jackets might be the single best piece of fan apparel in sports.
-
I simply would not expose the worst side of me to someone I've been seeing for 2 months. I started dating my wife right before the 2007 season so the Jets sucked right away and there were zero expectations. She didn't see me crushed over sports until our season ending losses in 2009 and 2010. Guy has no business acting like this in week 2.
-
Mrs English and I have been together 22 years and in the entire time she's known me my teams have collectively had about three good seasons. As a result, when Forest made the playoff final this year and I was proposing to spend an absolutely disgusting amount of money to go, there was no "you're going to spend how much on a ticket to a soccer match?" and instead she said "you've watched them be terrible all this time, you can't miss it now they're on the verge of actual success".
To this guy: it's two months into your relationship. You already know if she's a football fan and whether she gets it or not, if she isn't and doesn't then just tell her you're not seeing her on a Sunday.

Or just find someone else...
You don't need a diehard by your side, just someone who has enough empathy to see it matters to you and as a result it matters to them. Or at the very least they respect you.
Many of you have met my fiance. She's not a die hard football fan. She's never going to paint her face or tell me about free agent signings,, but she loves seeing me happy when they win and she's happy to listen because it interests me.
Man needs to find himself one of those.

That's the crux of the issue. Crying over sports is admittedly dumb. Recording your SO crying for whatever reason, dumb or not, then laughing and posting it for internet points is just dumpable behavior.

this is the perfect thing to say if you want your fan base to remember and hate you forever, especially if you don’t become special, which I never believed fields was likely to become.

Recording me while I'm crying - regardless of the reason - is a great way to tell me that you're not worth having around.

Crying over a Week 2 game. I don't mind people showing emotion, but it's Week 2.

Maybe some odd portion of the Bears fanbase will still be rooting for him when he's a backup on the Titans or something in 5-7 years.

Definitely a possibility. But I've seen too many "look at how my significant other is acting LMFAO!" videos to believe that they are all staged.

Fields is doing some impressive things as a runner but I'm not entirely sure how NFL defensive coaching staffs can't figure out how to stop these basic plays.

This is good playcalling, not good quarterbacking. He's not reading anything and this is not a particularly good throw. He's made some impressive throws on the run this year but this is nothing more than playcalling and bad defense.

Calling that bad defense is an insult to bad defenses throughout the league. That is an atrocious dereliction of duty, if the defender had been sucked into supporting what he thought was a run tackle and let the TE go then that's one thing but it looks like he just went "freak it, they're running so I'll not bother going with my guy, looks like too much work".

Total lack of awareness in the secondary. They played a shitty zone look and were terrified of the quarterback run. If you watch Kmet, the defender releases him to take the crossing receiver. No one was there to take the pass-off in coverage.
He's just running down the field lost.

Don’t let that analysis get in the way of people deciding Fields is now an elite QB in the NFL.

Apparently Fields banged up his shoulder.
If he's out next week, we should destroy their offense.

Me neither, but their offense has been feisty recently because they've been using Fields as a rusher. If he's out, I'm not sure how they move the ball at all against us, unless the defense is beyond frustrated.

Yes.
If our defense isn't the best in the league, I think they will be by next season. This a good thing and I need a good thing.

One or two better LBs and we'd be unstopable.

Plus, our offense needs all the help we can get in terms of turnovers and field position.

It became very apparent in the fourth quarter, if the Pats didn’t turn the ball over in field goal range, we were never scoring again and the patriots would eventually win by accident if nothing else

I said during the game - first defensive turnover wins the game.
Instead, it was a punt return TD.

Bears are gonna mop up on that pick. Teams are gonna want Bryce Young. The correct move would probably be to trade Fields because he sucks as a passer and pick Bryce Young, but that would take some balls.

What’s this insanity I’ve heard about them potential moving Darnell Mooney? Are they completely insane? Trading one of their few weapons way from Fields in a do or die (secret, he’s going to fail) year?

the Bears are lowballing him in contract negotiations. And unfortunately it's warranted, because his injury history isn't pretty.

I keep seeing random Twitter accounts proposing Fields/Wilson swaps that involve the Jets throwing in a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Wilson stinks, but how is Fields worth that much more compared to Wilson? Makes zero sense. A one-for-one trade honestly could make sense (would never happen), but neither QB has much value.

Justin Fields has been worse than Zach Wilson. He also showed his derriere in a press conference.
You don't see anyone talking negatively about him. He is garbage and he's an poopchute teammate/player.

Given there's a non zero chance of us actually having something riding on the game v Washington on Xmas Eve, I'm not upset at all about them losing a good pass rusher. Shame they still have the Patriots and Dolphins to play though.
-
This one just seems weird. I have to imagine they did this with plans to extend him because a 2nd rounder is a pretty high price to pay for a 9 month rental on a bottom level team, especially when they seem willing to let other pieces of their defense leave, a la Jaylon Johnson.

They have two first round picks, both of which will almost certainly be top 5, one of which could be #1, in a draft where multiple teams will be keen to trade up. They have a clear path to lots of draft capital in a draft which AFAIK isn't especially deep in pass rush talent, so trading a 2nd for a proven pass rusher when they've got plenty of cap room with which to extend him seems like not a terrible move to make.
-
That's a high 2nd rounder too.
