Taking a break from looking at prospects for a few weeks, but I just read about Marshall OL Cain Madden.
His nickname is Dump Truck.
DRAFT THIS FAT BEAST IN 2021
(Also, this WR and RB class will be loaded and I think Joe D knows that)

How you gonna beat me to this

We'll have to be pretty bad to land either of those guys.
Justyn Ross and the Alabama receivers (DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle) would be awesome to add too, if we're picking outside of the top ten again.
-
My favorite prospect heading into this upcoming season is Purdue's Rondale Moore. I hope he can stay healthy.

Very true, I only 2nd Chase who had already been mentioned and added Rousseau in a pipe dream sense. 'Bama WRs would be great. Rondale Moore's ability to stay on the field's the only question I'd have with him.

I'm going on the presumption that it's extremely improbable that there will be a college football season. How seriously fucked will the nfl draft be next year?
I feel like nfl teams that made trades for extra picks next year are definitely going to get screwed the most

There's more than enough film on top 100 prospects.
It will severely impact evaluation events like the East West Shrine Bowl and Senior Bowl.
Teams with extra picks have a massive advantage, not disadvantage. More swings.

Later picks sure, but early picks it's much more of a gamble.
And can't a guy easily go from top 10 to top 100 and vice versa?
I think especially with first and second round picks you could be looking at extreme swings in value as those picks are so valuable. Later picks should theoretically be more valuable as you could have guys that fell who shouldn't.
Plus another thing that I'm unsure of is who will declare early late etc because of the impact of this

The Supplemental Draft will be very interested for the first time in years.

He’s the top tackle on my board but scouts say Dillon Radunz, Sam Cosmi and Walker Little could all be drafted ahead of Sewell.

This right here... If Chase is gone and Sewell is the backup prize, ok great, but if Becton has the type of year we hope (assuming of course football happens) then Sewell won't be necessary (especially if we are selecting that high) and we will have other needs that likely could be addressed with another exceptional player.

Or he struggles without Joe Burrow/Joe Brady and falls a bit...
Alabama has a pair of wideouts that could overtake the #1 spot and Tamorion Terry at FSU can too.
It's a great receiver group again and I'm glad we didn't load up on fringe free agents.
-
I think it's hard for a wide receiver (or any non-QB) to be a lock top-10 pick at this point. A slow 40-time, a mediocre season, bad workouts....there are a ton of things that could go wrong to drop him a little bit.
Just looked back at Todd McShay's Way-Too-Early mock draft from last year
1. Tua Tagovailoa
2. Jerry Jeudy
3. Grant Delpit
4. Chase Young
5. Justin Herbert
6. Derrick Brown
7. CeeDee Lamb
8. Laviska Shenault
9. Collin Johnson
10. Terrell Lewis
Four receivers in top 10. None went top 10. Obviously that's just one man's opinion, but things can change a lot in a year.
In the last 5 drafts, only three receivers have gone top 10 - Corey Davis, Mike Williams and John Ross - all in 2017. None of the three have lived up to their draft stock, and I don't think any were considered top 10 entering their last college seasons.

JaMarr Chase is one of the best receivers of this generation, from everything I've seen. I am very interested to see him play for a different playcaller and a different QB though...but we may not get that chance.

Interesting, probably the first of many.
But Farley is extremely overrated as a prospect to me. I was looking forward to see more from him since he literally just sits in Cover 3 all day.
Very good tackler, but I worry players like him will struggle in man coverage in the NFL.

Wonder how opting out will affect Rousseau's draft position. I only mention him specifically because I would love to see the Jets draft him when Jenkins walks.

I'm just bored of the whole jam tomorrow mindset, the excitement over trading good players for future picks and saving cap space so we can have a good team next year. If it ever freaking happened I might be a bit more sympathetic to the idea.
That said, Maye and McDougald were decent so it is a bit facetious.
-
Honestly, the way the team played today makes the Adams trade look even better in my opinion. Adams wasn't the difference between a win and a loss. And with extra draft picks, hopefully we can finally start making significant investments on the offensive side of the football so that Darnold or whoever else can have success.
Plus, like JE said, Maye and McDougald played well. Maybe we shouldn't have drafted safeties with each of the first two picks in the same draft.

Monday morning QB'ing, but if you didn't have Mac as GM and went strictly offense in the 2017 draft you could've ended up with:
Jamal Adams Patrick Mahomes
Marcus Maye JuJu Smith-Schuster or Alvin Kamara
AeDarius Stewart Chris Godwin or Kenny Golladay
Chad Hansen George Kittle
And saved those 2nd round picks (and a 3rd) traded to the Colts in '18 to move up for Sam.

I don't doubt it for a second. And having an Andy Reid and a year to learn the ropes didn't hurt.
As a result of last Sunday's desultory performance TDN has moved the Jets up to picking #1 in the 2021 draft. If you want to do a mock draft p'ease note that the drop down function for both "# of rounds" and "draft pick selection speed" don't work - instead click inside the respective boxes themselves.
Start the draft and there it is: pick #1-Trevor Lawrence staring you right in there face.

Aside from Travis Etienne, they really don't have that much.
Frank Ladson and Joseph Ngata are highly rated recruits, but both have been really inconsistent. Amari Rodgers is pretty good.
The offensive line is not good, especially on the interior. Kinda built like ours is right now.
The system is certainly going to be his biggest loss coming from Clemson to the NFL.

Bib Wischusen on the call. Preview of the future?

Bad throw on the INT. Nobody's perfect.

Man, the Clemson offensive play calls are so varied. So much complexity. It's so foreign to see. Movement, fakes, setups. Hard to defend.

Given our extra picks and need of potential stats I would not hate drafting both Waddle and Ross and just stashing them for a season and rolling them out in 2022.

2 - Trey Smith
3 - Jaylen Waddle
3 - Justyn Ross

Waddle has a broken ankle and a high ankle sprain. I reckon he'll be at almost full speed by the Combine and he's not going to get past the first round.

Zero chance Etienne is available at the end of round 1 and your other 3 picks have IR written all over it. Teams that are good can take that many chances, we need guys that can play. We have enough problems with healthy guys staying healthy.
We should take 1 of Waddle or Ross if they’re still there with our 3rd rounders.

I’m banking on Seattle picking 24. No clue why my brain has decided that’s where they will pick, it just is. Ultimately I’m not expecting their atrocious defense to let them down early in the playoffs. I think Etienne could be had there. Still lots of teams not going to pick an RB high.
Smith I think is ready to play right now physically and that’s a damn good player to add to our OL. That’s 3 immediate contributors to an atrocious offense. Assuming we add a WR and Mims shows some skills this year, I’m fine allowing Waddle and Ross the time to heal and be ready to become absolute studs in 2022.
Then you have the rest of the draft to grab some developmental defenders.
Would it actually happen? Of course not. But I would not be disappointed in any way if that was our first 5 picks on draft weekend.

Seeing as how he is moving beyond that issue and is back on the field, albeit at OG instead of OT. Given he isn’t back to his pre-clot form yet but he’s turning out to be a dominant guy.
I just don’t think we see that many interior OL guys go in the first round and I think Creed Humphrey and Wyatt Davis will go ahead of him. If we truly are picking at 33, I think he could still be there

Cisco opted out weeks ago for Syracuse, but they weren't super forthcoming about his injury, I was hoping it wasn't the speculated ACL. He's a guy that if he's hanging around in round 3-4 with injury concerns I would love to see added to our roster.

that sucks so much. I liked the kid as a prospect. Hopefully whatever the medical concern, he can go on to live a productive and happy life. It's reasons like this, that I don't disparage guys for trying to get their money, and get to the league ASAP, because it can all end in an instant. Honestly, if he hadn't discovered whatever it is that's ending his career for 14 months, he'd have been a 2nd-3rd round pick and have a couple million dollars in guaranteed money to fall back on to get started with his life.
Sucks for a lot of reasons.

Dude's got some moves. Do they ever actually let him run a route, or is everything with him a screen, sweep or direct snap? I think the furthest forward he received the ball in that entire video was about 2 yards past the LOS.

Kyle Trask has allowed Mullen to open it up a little bit more and Toney has done a lot of damage down the seam this season so far.

Agreed. Darby's a nice physical presence (local Jersey City kid). Another NJ physical WR I'm watching is Justin Shorter (Fla. by way of Penn St.). Athletic beast in the mold of DK Metcalf (albeit with 'only' 4.45 speed-ha).

The real question is how far behind Zach Wilson is Justin Fields, because Wilson is QB2.

The real question is how far behind Zach Wilson is Justin Fields, but Wilson is QB2.
Didn’t see the OSU vs Indiana game but I saw Fields had a rough day at the office and threw a few ints and heard he struggles going through progressions when there was actual coverage played against his weapons.
Anybody able to confirm?

Anybody able to confirm?
Confirm. On his first pick Fields misread the coverage thinking it was cover 2 except one safety rolled up and picked off his seam pass (he had an open dig route right in front of him). The 2nd one he was in a cluster of defenders and should've just eaten the ball but instead tried throwing it away while hit. The third one was a total panic move on Fields' part. Bad as some of Sam's head-scratchers have been, I never saw Darnold go full "wtf?!" this badly. Fields while being sacked throws an absolute duck up for grabs: https://twitter.com/11W/status/1330231676023287810
That said, IU kept it close for a while by often sending the house and crating turnovers. OSU pulled away but IU came back because OSU's secondary absolutely sucked. Shaun Wade had a pick-6 off of a gimme pass but he also had yet another so-so game (is he slot only?). IU passed for nearly 500 yards and many came from 30+ yd. plays. IU while outclassed athletically is a very scrappy, game team (think Northwestern with a little more offense).

Not really the kind of receiver we're looking for though assuming we keep Crowder.
-
I don't get the Tutu Atwell hype. I think he's small and I don't see him as a 'special' athlete at the NFL level that will allow him to be as productive as a guy like Crowder has been.

It’s not like he has Tavon Austin hype. He should be a mid rounder. I would rather draft Rondale Moore or Kadarius Toney.
Landing another outside WR to complement Mims and then one of Toney/Atwell would get me hype.

I would like to get both an OL and a WR by pick 34. There are a ton of good options in this section of the draft.

I don't know about receiver in that range as of right now. I'm worried there's going to be a huge run in the middle of the first and we'll be left with whoever is left...hopefully someone like Toney or Moore.

I still firmly believe Douglas will trade down with one of those 3 selections. Given we are at 2 it seems unlikely (as of now) that we won’t take a QB there which means we won’t trade out of that spot and we will be looking to drop out of 27 or 34 (or both) to acquire more assets because this team is awful and needs so much.
I feel like JDs target is 8 top 100 picks this year. We are at 6, Sam would net us one (trading #2 probably gets us 2 this year and more next) and one trade down should net us the other one he wants to keep remaking the roster
-

We’ll be left out in the cold on Chase/Smith/Waddle... hoping some combination of Bateman, Moore, Terrance Marshall, Olave and Toney are there at 27. Pitts obviously would be under consideration too.
If we don’t sign a top FA WR, we have to consider taking one there or at 34 or we’re going to be repeating the same cycle of not giving our young QB legitimate NFL weapons. freak CB. freak EDGE. Develop the QB.
...
Last year the WR group got hyped to have a early round run and it played out pretty slowly. a lot of the mocks going into the draft suggested we might not have a shot at Juedy/Lamb/Ruggs at 11
-
This year I think the value for WRs is going to be barren during the late 1-early second. Lots of guys will go between 7-22 and then the next value sweet spot will likely be 50-90.
I still think one OL and one WR on offense and one CB and Edge on defense and then we end up taking a young player in the draft at all those spots with our 7+ top 100 picks as well. We need so much help in those areas. My point is we will get the WR just maybe not at 27 or 34
-

The Sam Darnold equation
Take Wilson at 2 and then spend the next several picks on defense
The difference is between Sam being drafted and Douglas getting the job we had 4 premium (top 100 selections) in 2 years
Nathan Sheppard
Quinnen Williams
Chuma Edoga
Jachai Polite
Duff didn’t attempt to surround Sam with any talent on offense and Edoga actually is bad at football.
This year alone we already have 6 picks and another 4 next year. Not every selection needs to (or should) go to the offense. But obviously some of them should and coupled with sound FA management we should have a good mix of vets and youth contributing on the offensive side of the ball in 2021

Taking a wr in the top 5 has never turned around a franchise and it never will. Its a terrible decision.
Wrs have too much injury risk
Wrs have too little of an impact on the rest of the team
Most importantly there is more supply at wide reciever than any other position not named rb or dt
The value is not there at #2

I think Smith is a much better route runner and complete receiver. DJax was always very 1 dimensional.
He does need to put on some weight. He should be able to do that considering his frame.
Smith: 6-1, 175
Waddle: 5-10, 182
Ruggs: 5-11, 188

What are people's thoughts on Mac Jones.
I admittedly know very little about him other than what I have seen from him in the college playoffs, but looking past his statline, I came away very impressed with how calm he was in the pocket, his accuracy, and how he always knew where to go with the football. When it comes to finding a franchise qb I think those 3 traits are the most important to having success in the NFL.
This play in particular really impressed me for that reason
https://youtu.be/c4eHOXIaxLA?t=28
What is the consensus on his talent being able to translate to the NFL. Do people think these are these actual traits he possesses or is it just a result on his teammates? Is he enough of an athlete to be successful at a high level or is he just another Andy Dalton?
-
With my limited understanding of things I’d wager his ceiling is Cincinnati Andy Dalton. Everyone assumes the elite playmakers made Jones look better than he actually is, but I suppose it is possible we find out in 3-4 years that Jones is actually why that offense was so successful and Smith and Harris while great players benefited more from Jones than the other way around. But I think most people will be surprised if that happens.
The other question I have is his arm strength. In comparison to NFL guys where does he fall? Is he an average arm? Below average arm? That really puts a ceiling on his (or any QBs) abilities

Duke TE Noah Gray is a scheme fit for us.
He's more of an H-Back, which that SF offense relied on heavily. We need to find someone that can play that Juszczyk role. He could be that.
Tommy Tremble is the ideal guy in this class, but Gray should be available much later.

Their RB2 (Mataeo Durant) should've played RB/WR (we called it slot back) for me but my boss at the time wanted him to play linebacker because we had some turd burglar senior at RB already.
...so predictably his dad enrolled him into a smaller school right outside of town.
He ran for almost 2000 yards and 26 TDs as a high school freshman, but yeah, lets put him at LB. The other kid is serving 10-15 for dealing fentanyl laced molly.

Random quote from a top decision maker on the 2021 NFL Draft: “This is the worst defensive tackle draft I’ve ever seen.” There could still be one or even two in the first round. But the overall depth clearly isn’t there.

It would be nice to have better players at CB or EDGE, but we can’t draft a QB and then say ok go get it done in your rookie year with GVR and Alex Lewis.
BPA, value pick, positional needs be damned, find us a starter at OG by any means necessary.

I hope Farley drops to 34. I don't think it'll happen. Some team will take the chance since he is the best corner in the draft minus the back stuff, and he's gotten good reports on his back as far as I can tell. I don't know if I'd take the risk at 23 since we have so many needs, but I'd do it in a second at 34 because he won't be there at 66. There's a decent chance he's there at 34 if we pass at 23.
I mean, if we get Horn or Surtain at 23, then no need, but I doubt we get either of them if we stay at 23.

Some stuff leaking out about Terrace Marshall having some injury red flags.
He's basically the same player as Mims, but if he slides into the middle of the second and we haven't addressed WR yet, I'd be okay moving up for him.
Mims and Marshall outside the numbers with Davis/Crowder in the slot would be tough. Wilson would be able to take a lot of deep shots.

Day 3 OL prospects
Kendrick Green, OG, Illinois
Tony Pauline's idiotic take:
Negatives: Stiffness hurts his ability to finish blocks. Does not move well enough laterally for a zone-blocking scheme.
Analysis: Green was productive and durable for Illinois at several positions on the offensive line. He comes with an upside and is a solid middle-round choice who would fit a power gap system.
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/kendrick-green-nfl-draft-player-profile-illinois-offensive-guard/
If Tony Pauline says Harris is ill-fitted in a zone scheme that's good enough for me--draft him JD.
David Moore, OG/C, Grambling St.
Guy's short but an athletic 320 lb. tank who moves well and plays with an edge. Grambling's not had an OL drafted for eons but imho this guy's worth a look (versatile-can play center). Senior Bowl:
