Talking about the Draft in Oct again. freak this team.
I was just saying to a coworker that I normally start DVRing games in like late November and doing things during the day on Sunday then just speeding through in the evening, but I may start doing it as early as this week.

I get it...just not happy about it.

We'll be in an interesting spot. This pick will really depend on who the head coach is...
This could be the best defensive class of the 2000s.
Nick Bosa - EDGE - Ohio State
Devin White - LB - LSU
Ed Oliver - DL - Houston
Deionte Thompson - S - Alabama
Raekwon Davis - DL - Alabama
Greedy Williams - CB - LSU
Clelin Ferrell - EDGE - CLemson
Jeffrey Simmons - DL - Mississippi State
Julian Love - CB - Notre Dame
To me, Devin White is the best of the best. We aren't in a spot to draft an off-the-ball linebacker though.
Greedy Williams would give us a potential shutdown corner on the outside. It's a bigger than people want to think it is.
The tackle class is strong, but if we're up really high there's just better value on defense and potentially at receiver.
Stanford WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside and Ole Miss WR DK Metcalf would be awesome weapons for Darnold.

I’ve long seen Ed Oliver touted as one of the top players in this year’s class. Where would he play for us? Would this be a similar situation as a few years ago, taking Leonard Williams when we already had Richardson and Wilkerson?
-
Sucks there isn’t really an elite OT prospect or 2. Seems like that’s a growing trend recently.
-
I know you can’t lock into taking positions, and Duff has shown that he’s a BPA type of guy, but it feels like EDGE in Rd 1 and best available OL in Rd 3 makes sense.
-

Another scenario is moving down from the top 5 into the teens and taking one of the Tackles, and acquiring additional picks.
Or piggy-backing off your scenario...instead of waiting to the 3rd round to draft OL, using both 3rd rounders to trade back into the 2nd rd for a better OL prospect.

Both of those scenarios are more ideal than waiting until rd 3 to take a fringe player

We are 10000% not in a position where we should be trading up at all. Waste of resources when we have so many holes, let alone giving up an extra 3rd round pick when we already don't have our 2nd
-

Greg Little could be an elite tackle prospect. I really like David Edwards out of Wisconsin.
Jonah Williams is not a sexy pick but he’s a damn good tackle. Just not sure if he’s more of a RT.

I think we’d have to transition to a 4-3 if Oliver was the guy.
Shepherd would then become the rotational third DT behind Leo and Oliver. We don’t have any real defensive ends for it though. Maybe Jenkins could convert.
-
We have to win in free agency.
Maccagnan has to use that money to repair the pass rush or the offensive line.
If we’re bad enough, landing someone like Bosa, Polite, or Ferrell in the first AFTER signing someone like Demarcus Lawrence would be the best possible scenario.

Moving to 4-3 could be interesting. Probably works better for Leo and Lee than the current scheme... and with those guys being the two most promising front 7 players on the team, might not be the worst idea.

There's definitely a lot more in the way of high end options for the pass rush in FA; I know I'm a stuck record on this, but I see absolutely nothing on the OL that could make a noticeable impact. There are a couple of older players who might be decent 1-2 year stopgaps if they've got enough left in the tank but that's a risky strategy with a tackle.
-

It's a potential scenario but it's not a strategy, because trading down is way harder than trading up. Trading up is simply a matter of being willing to offer enough to get the deal done, trading down is dependent upon another team liking a player enough at the pick you're offering and not believing that they will fall far enough.

There should be some decent options available, but we definitely shouldn't wholly rely on free agency, any good OL is gonna be very highly paid

Trading down is always more difficult. Having a franchise QB already on your roster makes it a little easier (ie The Colts trading with us), because QB needy teams are always looking to move up. That's why i'm hoping the #HerbertHypeTrain2019 builds up some steam.

Were in a good position to draft a pass rusher this year. Would hope we can improve the OL in free agency
-
Stanford WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside and Ole Miss WR DK Metcalf would be awesome weapons for Darnold.
Glad you mentioned Metcalf....what are your thoughts on him vs. teammate AJ Brown (who seems like the way-too-early consensus top wr in 2019 class)?
Metcalf has the superior measurables, and to my eyes (correct me if you disagree) Brown's upside is a better, faster Enunwa in that he's a well-built YAC machine. By the time of the 2019 Combine, I could see Metcalf and/or N'Keal Harry surpassing AJ Brown.
Also, thoughts on Marquise Brown? Again, to my eyes just judging on 2017 to now, he looks somewhere between Tavon austin and Brandin Cooks....I'm not entirely decided on who he's closer to yet.
-

I tend to agree...elite passrusher or elite WR.
I'd really prefer elite LT, but there doesn't seem to be one at this early point, although I do like Jonah Williams. My #1 player for Jets this second is Bosa, which will likely require a top 3 or 4 pick...you can do it Bowles!!%!
-

I'm not as high on AJ Brown as most seem to be. He's a solid player, but he doesn't play outside much at all and Ole Miss really does a great job of scheming him open. He isn't a good route runner and he isn't overly fast, but he's nasty once he gets the ball.
I worry about him being able to separate from NFL defensive backs. The Quincy Enunwa comparison you made is a great one. He's a very strong YAC skill player like Enunwa has become.

Harry is a hell of a possession receiver, but Washington CB Byron Murphy bullied him. Murphy is like 170 pounds and he pushed him around and locked him down. He's another guy that I worry about when it comes to separation.
Metcalf just wins on the outside. He's big, strong, and has elite deep speed.
Also, thoughts on Marquise Brown? Again, to my eyes just judging on 2017 to now, he looks somewhere between Tavon austin and Brandin Cooks....I'm not entirely decided on who he's closer to yet.
Hollywood Brown is a baller. He's very similar to Dede Westbrook, but better in the open field.
I think someone will get a steal in the middle rounds.
The Jets need some smaller, shiftier receivers. He'd be nice to have as another option in the slot.
---
We need a true #1 wideout, but this probably isn't the draft for that. I don't see an elite AJ Green/Julio Jones type prospect in this class, but there's a lot of possession talent. Maybe DK Metcalf will emerge as that kind of true elite receiver prospect, but not yet. Greedy Williams ate his lunch last week.
JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Kelvin Harmon, and N'Keal Harry would be good for Sam Darnold. These are guys that can win contested throws.

I wonder which team the scouts come from that New York-based reporter Pete Thamel was talking to?
NFL scouts have fallen hard for Oregon’s Justin Herbert, with multiple sources telling Yahoo they consider him a better overall prospect than the five quarterbacks who went in the first round last season – Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.
I can't possibly think which team might have scouts for whom this would be a useful narrative.

Manish is pumpin Nick Bosa's tires in the hopes the Jets somehow land the #1 pick next year (I don't see that happening with the #GrudenTank going strong).

I think we're going to finish 3-13...which could put us anywhere between the #2 or #6 pick. Is Polite top 5 worthy?
the higher we climb, the more i want to ransom the pick to some QB needy team and move back.

There’s not a QB that anyone will be willing to trade up for. Someone might want to move up for a pass rusher...
Polite is a top five prospect to me.
It’ll be interesting to see if we hire a head coach or DC that runs a 4-3.
We could be in a spot to get Ed Oliver or Quinnen Williams to play next to Leo...
-
This is the draft to get a pass rusher.
If Maccagnan or whoever is our GM is doesn’t come away with one this offseason, it will be a failure.
Bosa, Polite, Ferrell, Burns, and Allen are all Top 10 talents on the edge.

Jonah Williams should be a top 10 pick and Greg Little top 15-20. They both look to be good LT prospects but I don’t think either will be BPA where we end up picking. I feel the same way about the WR prospects

Granted, while understanding that the priority needs to be focused on protecting Sam...do we really want to trade down if Bosa is on the board? Take the elite player and run.

But then duff gets no credit for the draft pick

Nick Bosa is a cornerstone player.
He has the ability to get 10+ sacks immediately.
You don’t pass on him.
-
No, I would not pass on Bosa.
Edit: I didn’t think about it too much in the scenario in that post because I think he’ll go 1 if Herbert doesn’t.

I think he's the first off the board as well considering the teams in the top 3 (Raiders, Cardinals, 49ers) won't be looking for a quarterback.
Honestly of the excrement teams "competing" with the Jets in the battle of futility, the teams that strike me as possibilities to either take Herbert in front of us or trade up for him seem to be the Giants, Denver and possible the Bucs depending on how Jameis looks for the rest of the season.

The Giants sent the majority of their scouting dept including Gettleman to watch Herbert a few weeks ago. Their fan base is drooling over him. I kinda hope he declares, so we can ransom our pick. Obviously, it's easier said than done...but our FO should try to make the attempt.
If we don't trade down, i'm fine with that too.

I'm going to be so disappointed if we use our first on a receiver.
-
I'm going to be so disappointed if we use our first on a receiver.
Sadly it depends on FA and depends on the board.
If FA lends us Demarcus Lawrence and Le'Veon Bell, and the top pass rushers are off the board when we pick, grabbing the next great receiver to pair with Sam isn't a bad idea.
We all wish FA + draft had top OL prospects, but it simply doesn't seem to be there, and if we can't do that, you give Sam the best damn weapons we can find for him, because we don't have any to speak of. If we can't protect him yet, we need to make it easier to get the ball out of his hands as fast as possible.
-
I'm going to be so disappointed if we use our first on a interior DL.
I would prefer the top OT
-
I’m on the OL train too.
Protecting Sam should be top priority before providing him with better weapons
-
Draft BPA, preferably on offense, and I'm good with it
-
Draft a premium position
OT or OLB
-
OT. Not getting helping Darnold's front seven this draft is a commitment to him failing as a draft pick.
-
OT. Not getting helping Darnold's front seven this draft is a commitment to him failing as a draft pick.
Getting the best player we can (especially if there is a significant talent gap there) is never a bad thing. Sam needs lots of talent all over the roster to help him win games.
Don’t get me wrong the priorities go like this
1. Protection
2. Playmakers
3. Defense
But if, for example, Bosa is still on the board when we pick, you are going to pass on him, an exceptionally elite prospect, for a strong OL or playmaker prospect?
That’s how bad teams stay bad, passing on top talent intentionally.
FA is for need, top 2 rounds are for the best players you can find.
If the prospects are close, you grab the guy that fits ours needs best. But you can’t pass on an elite pass rusher purely because he doesn’t play offense
-
I’ve always been on board the BPA train, but our offense is a dumpster fire and needs an injection of talent. I’m not passing on Bosa, but I won’t be happy if we draft DT

While some of these reciever look promising if rather not spend a 1st on a wr. Most take 3 years to get acclimated to the nfl and sam needs help now. Pay a free agent now, and draft playmakers in the later rounds to groom for later

This year's WR class is awful, though. Plus that's become generally less true over the years, with all the spread concepts in the NFL it's easier to integrate quicker.

There are some decent free agent WRs available in 2019, there'll be some competition for them but if we can lock up Enunwa I wouldn't mind if we let Kearse walk and picked up someone like Tyrell Williams. I also wouldn't hate Chris Hogan.

Maybe not, but with the right scheme in place i.e. not this abomination that Bates is running, I think that we have the makings of a decent receiving corps and a good FA pickup could cement that. I don't think it should be a draft priority.

...all of our receivers are FA and it’s not a great core to begin with. Bottom 10 in the NFL at best. We need a #1 WR.
-
We need talent all over the place, as long as it’s not a stupid pick early in the 1st like a DT, QB, or Safety I’m all in on going BPA all weekend

It's unlikely that we're going to find one this offseason unless it's via trade. The receivers hitting free agency are uninspiring and I don't think any of us want to see us reach for a receiver in the 1st (especially when the o-line is of graver concern).
-
Draft a premium position
OT or OLB
This is my mindset too.
Ideally we'll be able to sign a pass rusher or two in free agency so we can draft an OL (Jonah Williams) with our first pick.

How does the current defensive personnel translate to a 4-3? We have no idea what kind of defense the next DC is going to be running.
Personally, I want any picks made in the first 3 rounds to be spent on offense. I'd prefer some trading down to gather as many picks as possible. This team needs a major infusion of talent.

Don't think it'd be much of an issue. Williamson, Lee, and Williams are the only front 7 players worth caring about and it's pretty arguable that Lee and Williams could actually be better in a 4-3
-
This draft is going to pee me off.
Oakland is taking Bosa or a QB.
49ers are not taking iDL, spent top 5 picks on Deforest Buckner and Solomon Thomas in 2016/2017.
BPA when we pick will be Quinnen Williams or Ed Oliver. Maybe Devin White (no need) or Greedy Williams (We have much bigger needs than CB). We can pray for a trade down but I don’t think we’ll have a ton of leverage because there are so many DTs in this draft.
We had better hope Duff is high on Polite/Farrell/Jonah Williams/Greg Little
-
CB is a bigger need than most think.
Claiborne is a bandaid signing. Johnson is aging.
-
We’re not going to get the third pick.
I think we’ll win a few more games.
-
I'm sick and tired of this team picking corners in the draft that suck and spending way too much money on ones who don't perform.

Greedy Williams is a generational talent at corner

Oakland has 2 additional picks in the mid-20s. If they take Bosa #1, would you take 2 first rounders (plus whatever mid round picks to complete the deal) in exchange for our top 5 pick?

We will continue to be awful if we do that.
Johnson is aging, so let’s take advantage of the window while he’s still good. Adding high draft picks to our defense year after year and it seems like it never improves from mediocre.
I’m fine with an EDGE player with our #1 and that’s about it.

I hear you, and I don't disagree that this team needs corners.
I'm just sick of picking or signing them and getting little in return over and over.

If the Jets are sitting on a top 5 pick and someone offers them two first to trade down and they refuse it, I don't care who is on the board, I can't be held responsible for what happens at Florham Park after that.

Ohio State redshirt sophomore QB Dwayne Haskins has received a first round grade from the NFL's college personnel advisory board.
This is good for us, hopefully he gets vaulted into the top 5
Might seem like a reach, but over a year ago Baker Mayfield wasn’t considered a first round QB.

I am not an expert, but I am not sure if the Jets can fall lower than the fifth pick. I am willing to fall to five it mean we beat the Patriots and drop them from the top 2 seeds.

We can’t fall further than 5th
-
Want to beat those fuckers, but moving up in the draft is a decent consolation prize. Knowing our luck we won't gain anything by losing.
-
Next week is fine with me either way. I’ll take a win over the Pats or I’ll take the draft considerations
-
I'm definitely up for beating the Pats if it means something (i.e. the Texans win)

Herbert returning to Oregon.
-
Haskins just became that much more valuable.
We’ll be in a good spot to trade our pick.
-
If it is a top 2 pick for us, this probably helps. If we have the 3rd pick, probably not.
-
If it is a top 2 pick for us, this probably helps. If we have the 3rd pick, probably not.
Still helps just not as much. It means we likely aren’t in the trade market, but we are likely to get the 2nd best player in the draft.
-

I mean we aren’t taking a QB, so what’s the point of jumping in front of us?

Depends if you're concerned about someone else trading into the #2 for Haskins.
-

Same reason the Bears jumped from #3 to #2
-
I mean we aren’t taking a QB, so what’s the point of jumping in front of us?
Yes but we could also trade the pick.
If you assume Bosa and Haskins are top 2 picks, those are the picks you probably want. It is also possible that no QB ends up rising, but we shall see.
-
With QB Justin Herbert returning to Oregon, there will be even more atention on Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray, about whom one source told @SandoESPN: "There's a lot of buzz on Murray. I think he goes first two rounds."
Assuming there’s no guarantee he plays football, will a team really draft him with a premium pick?
-
I’m just glad we have a QB because this class is worse than 2013

Haskins is better than Herbert. Neither player is remotely close to being a top prospect though.

I still think Clayton Thorson might end up being decent.

Daniel Jones playing for Duke at 1:30 today has a chance to be QB2. I think current QB2 is Drew Lock. Will Grier or Jones QB3.

But Heis is right this QB class looks very bad

Daniel Jones could end up being QB1 with a great showing today and a strong whiteboard showing in meeting's at the combine.
-
I like Anthony Russo as a development QB in next year's class.
-
Don't forget about Ryan Finley at NC State. Smart QB, protects the ball. I don't think he's ever going to be a top NFL QB but that may not stop him from getting pushed up the board. Prototypical guy the Pats would draft to someday not replace Tom Brady.

The pats do love their NC State QBs. And Finley screams NFL backup to me. He will be a solid 2 contract backup from what I’ve seen

30/41 - 423 yards - 6 TD (5 passing / 1 rushing)

I'm probably going to be pissed if we don't take a pass rusher with our first pick.
(Unless we sign two in free agency)

I don't think very many good pass rushers that are listed as potential free agents will actually ever hit the market. Maybe Fowler. Most of these guys will just get re-signed. I guess the scheme we have on defense will make some difference. I think Jordan Jenkins will be solid as a 3-4 OLB or 4-3 DE. We could improve on him, but I'd be fine if he was a starter next year considering all the other holes we have. I wonder what being in a 4-3 would do for Leonard Williams.
-

Weren't you saying that this draft is so deep at pass rusher we could get a quality starter with our 3rd?
Do you think Allen, Polite, Boss are just that much better than the other options, or guys like Jonah and Metcalf just pale in comparison in terms of overall grades

If we don't trade down, I agree.
Ideal scenario for me is that we sign a couple pass rushers in free agency, trade down to pick up extra draft picks, and draft the best tackle available.
-
It's unlikely that this will happen but, just using the trade value chart as a reference, if we were to move down from 2 to 8 so that a team like the Jaguars could get their quarterback, we'd be looking at a 2nd and 3rd this year plus a 1st next year as compensation. To me, that's more valuable than anyone (not named Bosa) we could draft at 2.

I honestly don't see anyone trading up for Haskins. There's no one so desperately in need of an immediate starter at QB to spend the extra draft capital rather than wait until next year.

Every year I am amazed how much things change from season's end to draft day. Some dudes go from nothing to a first rounder and other 1st rounder fall like a rock.

Right now that makes sense, but to Bo's point, someone usually rises.

This is such a deep WR draft. We really need to get a quality young WR in the first two days. Would be nice to have a 2nd-round pick.

They do, but unusually none of the teams picking high are desperate for a QB so it might not happen this year.

The #Dolphins are planning to move on from QB Ryan Tannehill this offseason, per @AdamSchefter. The same goes for the #Jaguars and Blake Bortles.
Giants could fall into this category too. They want to groom a QB behind Eli

Both of those guys will probably get scooped up by playoff caliber teams that want a good backup. Tannehill will be one of the best backups in the league. Bortles is good as a backup too. I don't think either is a good option as a starter for any team.

OK, but my point is that none of those teams are so desperate for a new starter as to be likely willing to give up draft capital to move up a few places. Miami, Tampa, Jax and the Vagiants all have starters under contract for 2019 and all bar Tampa will have to pay a lot of money to cut them (Tannehill has a $13M hit, Bortles $16.5M and Eli $6.2M, although if the Giants do draft a new QB I doubt they'd cut Eli).
I could absolutely see any of them being willing to take Haskins if he's there at their pick, but I don't think any of them will be desperate enough for him to give up extra picks to move up.

Yeah, good point. Smith may never come back, but if he does, it won't likely be week 1. They need a QB with good starting experience. If he plays well and Smith comes back healthy, they might be able to flip him for a draft pick. If they are still in the playoffs hunt they could just keep him.

I think/hope Quinnen Williams can challenge for the top spot which would be great for us. I don't think the 49ers would take a DL, but there is a chance that Arizona does. Not saying it is likely, but he is very impressive.

He might be on our board depending on what defensive scheme we end up with.
I don't see nearly enough pieces in place to make me think transitioning to a 4-3 would be substantially more difficult than sticking with the 3-4. There's the President, maaaaybe Leonard WIlliams, and then everyone else is either a JAG, a UFA, or a GTFO.

The only thing exciting about that article was that somebody thinks Williams will go #1 to Zona, ensuring we either get an elite pass rushing prospect (Bosa or Allen) or the QB trade is there for us
-

I'm ok with it if Bosa/Allen go 1/2 and we can't trade down. Quinnen Williams is really good.

Yep, if Bosa/ Allen go 1/2, a d-lineman will be BPA (Quinnen or Ed Oliver).
At that point I'd be rooting for a trade down, like most here. But if Mac stays put and stays true to BPA mindset, we're getting one of those guys (unless Jets happen to have Jonah or Greedy as superior prospects; I suppose that's not impossible).
-
This draft is going to pee me off.
Oakland is taking Bosa or a QB.
49ers are not taking iDL, spent top 5 picks on Deforest Buckner and Solomon Thomas in 2016/2017.
BPA when we pick will be Quinnen Williams or Ed Oliver.

Still think our best hope at 3 is a scramble for Haskins.
I would be perfectly fine with Josh Allen, but I’m scared he goes 2 right now.

We need to protect the quarterback. The only reasonable option besides an offensive lineman is an elite edge rusher, strictly because of how rare it is to have the opportunity to draft/sign one.

Totally agree.
Hopefully Bosa or Allen are there at 3. I'd guess one or both will be. It's so early in the draft process that nothing can be assumed.
Honestly, there's as good/better chance of Bosa falling to 3 than I'd have thought for Darnold falling to 3...or LeonardWilliams falling to 6. Crazy stuff often happens.

All you have to do with that defense is not turn the ball over, Flacco will be just fine at that. That team doesn't need a special QB, just a stable one. Hand the ball to Fournette a lot and take the odd downfield shot to Moncrief.

Absolutely. Think the Browns got a 2nd round pick

that would be nice as an independent deal, if it was part of a trade down it would have to be a blockbuster

Can’t believe my boy Greg Dortch is coming out this year. He could be our tyreek Hill.
He’s got a very small frame though. 5’9” 170lbs. Hollywood Brown is listed at 5’10” though, so he’s an alternative since I don’t think we’ll be in position to draft Brown, I’m thinking he goes in the top 2 rounds. Dortch might go as high as rounds 2-3, but we should absolutely try to steal Dortch in rounds 4-5. I do prefer to grab the best available outside receiver with 1 of our 3rd rounders first. And OL. Lots of OL.

If i'm Duff, i'm trying to get a 2020 first rounder and 2019 2nd rounder in any trade down scenario...any additional picks or players to that wish list is bonus material.

We essentially have two fourth round picks.
The Bridgewater pick is at the very end of the third. Maccagnan absolutely has to try to move back to acquire a pick in the second or maybe more picks in the middle rounds.

How much (if at all), does Machado and Harper not getting paid effect Murray's decision?
I'm not sure the prevailing thought that Kyler's set up for a more lucrative career in baseball is still that much of a sure thing as it was for say a Jeff Samardzija.

He got handled by Northwestern and their line is garbage. I don't have much faith at all in his ability to be consistently effective against NHL linemen.

So, Steve Keim announced that the Cardinals are going back to a 3-4. In my eyes, this telegraphs their pick at #1, and it isn’t Bosa.
Bosa is a 4-3 end, not a 3-4 end. Quinnen Williams could play either DE spots in a 3-4 or even NT in nickel packages in the 3-4.

Practices are more important than the game
Deebo Samuel and Dalton Risner were the best offensive players.
Montez Sweat was the best defensive player. Sutton Smith needs to change positions.

Senior bowl... what do I need to know?
From my view watching practice and the game this week on NFLN, youtube, etc:
Seems like a very good draft for Duff to get O-linemen on Day 2. I was particularly impressed with Chris Lindstrom and Andre Dillard.
I'd still like to get Isabella on this team. I'm a Deebo fan, but he likely won't get to the 3rd round.
Drew Lock looked like the best QB of the bunch at the game, and solidified himself as a first-rounder as of now, pre-combine.
I especially watched Sutton Smith as a potential later-round gem, and he was consistently overwhelmed in one-on-ones against OTs.
Way too undersized for an NFL DE.

If Nick Bosa is gone, then Quinnen Williams should certainly be considered.
It’s the best defensive class in a decade (at least) and Williams is up there...
Taking a DT now that we’re a 4-3 team makes a lot more sense.
Unless DK Metcalf and Jawaan Taylor rise, we’re going to take a front seven player. That’s where the value is if we don’t move out of #3.

But Quinnen does have experience playing nose/1 tech at Alabama, afaik, and Leonard has played end (but not his 100% ideal position).
It would be up to Crazy Gregg to utilize each to the best of their strengths. An interior of Leonard and Quinnen would be fearsome.
I'd hate to pass on an elite talent like Quinnen to take an inferior prospect, just like I'd have been upset if we had passed on Leonard when he fell to us in 2015, despite already having Wilk and Sheldon. We need to snatch up top talent when available.
As it stands now (and still early pre-combine), Nick Bosa and maybe Josh Allen are the only players I'd consider over Quinnen.
I'm fine with Quinnen Williams...but our top priority should be to trade back.
Yes! Again, we need players and talent. I'm cool with "settling" for a Clelin Ferrell or Jonah Williams if it nets us a package including 2nd and 3rd rounder.
-

Aye. A couple of really good players at key positions are probably more useful to us right now than a single elite one, but let's wait and see what FA does for us.
-

They are both good enough and versatile enough to play every position in a four man front.
The way Wade Phillips uses Donald and Suh is similar to how they could be used. Put a ton a pressure on guards and centers. Let your outside guys get favorable matchups with offensive tackles.

That’s officially who I want
If we stay at 3, I want one of the 3 best players in the draft, so I officially want Bosa (please baby jesus lamb of god), Quinnen, or Josh Allen.
Players always slide down or rocket up draft boards at the combine. I could see a JTaylor, Greg Little, Montez Sweat, Metcalf, especially Ed Oliver (who was assumed to be a top 2 pick before the season) to make a leap up if they beast the combine.

I’m not so sure Josh Allen is a Top 3 prospect.
Definitely a top ten type right now, but Ferrell and Sweat aren’t much different. The gap just isn’t big enough between them as prospects. Ferrell might even be better.
Jawaan Taylor has elite size and his movement on film is elite at times. He dominated Josh Allen when Florida played Kentucky.
As of right now, Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams, and Jawaan Taylor are the top three prospects in this class. That’s obviosuly just my opinion and will likely change after the combine, but Taylor is a potentially elite tackle and that boosts his value.

As of now I could be convinced that ferrell and/or Ed Oliver are in/close to that top 3. I'm a big Ferrell fan for this team.
Like you said, the combine always throws 50 monkeywrenches into draft stocks. At this point last year, Darnold was a lock #1, Rosen was a lock top 3, and suggesting Mayfield as the top pick would get you laughed at.
-
If Maccagnan drafts an offensive tackle in the first round, even if it's believed to be a reach, it will completely change how I view him.
I don't care if the next Lawrence Taylor is available, "protect Darnold at all costs" should be this team's first, last, and only priority.

I'm 100% on board if we can get an elite LT prospect at 3, for sure.
This offseason, though, i'd argue the first steps to helping/protecting/building around Darnold, before reaching for a maybe franchise LT is:
1) Improve the center position by signing Paradis or Mitch Morse.
2) Signing/drafting offensive weapons, whether that means LBell, Tyrell Williams, Humphries, Tevin Coleman, whatever. Deep WR draft class so we need to draft AT LEAST one.
Our offensive line wasn't the biggest hindrance to Darnold imo...it was poor coaching and lack of weapons and offensive depth (and also having a 21-yr-old noob at QB). There will be solid o-linemen in the 3rd/4th as well.
Like I alluded to before, I could conceive that a Taylor or Little could blow away the combine as athletic, pass-protecting monsters, and be worthy of a top 3-5 pick. But if we're picking at 3 and it's an offensive lineman, it HAS to be a franchise D'Brick-type left tackle. Someone who is a clear, obvious, instant upgrade over Beachum.

I agree on practically everything you wrote. The only place I diverge a bit is that I'm willing to risk a pick that doesn't pan out into an elite tackle. This is a team that risked a first-rounder on a defensive lineman when they already had two in the same position. I'm okay with using as many picks as it takes to get the OL to an elite level.

Jawaan Taylor at 3
That’s officially who I want
(https://media.giphy.com/media/qL6klV4uzqiQ/giphy.gif)
I can get behind that. I think Jonah Williams can make it as a left tackle but Taylor's ceiling is miles higher.
Looking forward to his Combine.

You guys know this team, whoever we think we have no chance at getting becomes our pick. Welcome to the Jets Mr. Bosa
-

Clelin Ferrell gave Williams fits with counter moves. He can't handle speed to power combinations very well. He just isn't long enough or athletic enough to be consistent there against premiere edge talents.
He can be a hell of an interior lineman though. A lot of scouts are listing him as a center now, which is interesting. Pulling from the inside is something he could be very good at.

I always feel like center is in many ways the most important and most difficult position on the line to fill; they're doing a lot more than the other linemen, they're working much more closely with the QB, and they have to handle a lot more at the point of attack because they're transitioning from the snap to the block. I know you're not suggesting we draft him, but I'd be leery for whoever does of trying to convert a college player who has never snapped the ball into a starting center, especially a player taken as high as Williams likely will be. If I'm drafting a center I want him to have proven he knows how to play the position.
-

There's no way I could justify passing on:
1) The best player in the draft, at
2) Our position of greatest need, at
3) The second most impactful position in football.
I want to build an offensive line in the worst way, but you don't pass up that opportunity.

You would be a fan of Elgton Jenkins...a player that will be available much later than someone like Jonah Williams.
Dalton Risner is a hell of player but he'll be 24 years old before the season starts and I'd hate to see us draft an "old" prospect with a high pick.
-
What's Taylor's floor?
An underwhelming solid slightly above average LT who lets you not have to think about the position for 5 years isn't a disaster if that's the likely worst case scenario, but they can't take a bust risk at 3.
-
who I want at 3:
bosa
allen (partial to him as he is a local to the area)
who I want to target if we trade back, either at our 1st round pick or later:
gary (also a local)
polite
ferrell
taylor
metcalf
butler
what are the odds one of those WRs makes it to the 2nd round?
-
I'm kind of working under the assumption that we're going to trade down having listened to the GM talk about recouping picks.
An extremely likely target IMO given Gase and the 'new' NFL? Hollywood Brown
-

Mecole Hardman and Tony Pollard are two other all-purpose prospects that Adam Gase probably has his eye on.
Deebo Samuel, Hollywood Brown, AJ Brown, and Riley Ridley are all those second tier type prospects at wideout that have a lot of value as YAC players.
Gase lost Jakeem Grant and Albert Wilson and his offense fizzled out. He wants YAC players. Enunwa is a really good YAC receiver, but that's really the only one we have in the receiving corps.
Hollywood Brown would be a really fun player to have on this team.
---
Adam Gase was not fond of DeVante Parker. A lot of that most likely had to do with work ethic and attitude, but he rarely featured possession wideouts in that offense. He relied heavily on slots and Kenny Stills.
I think Robby Anderson can fill that Stills role and then some.
Quincy Enunwa will need some help over the middle to fill that slot role that Gase loves . Deontay Burnett will hopefully continue to get chances here.
I really think he wants smaller, faster wideouts because he tries to win with screens and clearouts. It's a great offense for a player like Enunwa that can thrive on drags.
-

I’m less confident today than a month ago that we can get a trade down with someone looking for a QB. I know it’s too early for anything to matter, but the landscape has changed a little bit.
Based on the rumors as they stand:
The Kyler Murray hype has been pretty underwhelming so far, which didn’t help us
JAX wants to trade for Nick Foles
MIA is tanking, they wouldn’t burn picks trading up for a QB
DEN is rumored to love Drew Lock. Could be BS, maybe they want to jump the NYG for Haskins
WAS - fit for Teddy B? Considering the Alex Smith situation I don’t think they’ll trade up unless they are convinced it is for a franchise QB. They’re probably hoping Murray or Lock fall to them or will roll the dice on Daniel Jones
If JAX trades for Foles, I think the Giants might be able to sit on the 6 pick and have Haskins fall to them. Unless DEN is waiting in the shadows but they would probably be trading with OAK/TB and not us to leapfrop NYG
-
^ I was thinking about that recently. There are going to be some QBs available via trade/free agency which are going to help teams have a little more patience in the draft, so a trade-down is probably not happening.
I've been harping for months about going all-in on offense because this is a pass-first league, and just last week I was advocating using even the 3 pick to acquire a tackle, but after the Super Bowl, I have to walk back my words. Defense still can win you a title.
I'd still rather go with Taylor, but if they decide to go with an elite pass-rush threat, I'm okay with that now too.
-

I would think they’ll attempt to tag and trade him
Edit: maybe.
Breer-
So this is pretty simple. Philly now has a month to shop Foles as if he’s on the tag. If they find takers at the right price, they tag and trade him. If they don’t, then they let him walk.

Why would Foles sign the tag? He knows that Philly have zero desire to pay him tag money so why would he go along with the plan when it costs him? If he walks to FA in a month then the Eagles are guaranteed a 3rd round comp anyway.
-
after thinking about it more, the only player i wouldn't trade out for is bosa if he drops to 3. as much as i love allen, i'd be cool with a trade down several spots if it netted us extra picks. if we trade down a few spots, I want us to take Jawaan Taylor
with the 2nd rounder we pick up id like us to draft any one of these WR that make it there (if they make it there)
DK Metcalf
Hakeem Butler
N'Keal Harry
Deebo Samuel
AJ Brown
Still have to watch more video on the RB prospects, but my favorite so far is Justice Hill followed by David Montgomery. If we can't sign Le'Veon it'd be awesome if we could nab one of these two with one of our 3rd round picks. I'd also like to see us target an interior OL with one of those 3rds or our 4th
just some thoughts, knowing that drafts never end up the way fans want or imagine them to be

Super Bowl champ #Patriots own the #Bears 2nd-rd pick (No. 56) & #Lions 3rd-rd pick (No. 73), and are projected to land two 3rd-rd compensatory picks.
Including their own 1 (No. 32) & 2 (No. 64), New England should hold *SIX* selections inside the ~ Top 100 of this year's draft.
This is after they had 2 first rounders last year?

I’m just so concerned with him not being a practiced blind side protector. Slides from the right vs the left are polar opposites (duh) and some people just can’t transition. The process in theory seems easy but like being a RCB and a LCB at the corner position, some guys just can’t make the transition.
On a side note, if we did take Taylor I imagine we immediately try to trade Beachum. So the question becomes, what would he be worth?

The 49ers run a 4-3? Must have switched with the Shanahan hire. First time I looked at their depth chart.

They have Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas listed as their starting DE’s. Assuming Dee Ford will play DE for them too. DeForest Buckner and a guy I’ve never heard of listed as their starting DT’s.
Bosa SZN?

After scanning 49ers beat writer accounts (could only find a couple, let me know if you have reliable ones) it sounds like they don’t know what they’re doing. Looks like a majority of fans and media want Bosa.

I agree, but the way free agency has turned out I would be surprised if he passed on an Edge again. He resigned the great white hope and didn't sign and edge rusher... I just don't know how he can pass on a prospect that is marginally a lesser prospect but at a much more significant position and one that is a huge need.

It's also how he was used too.
Simmons, Lawrence, and Williams play similar techniques. They line up as 0, 1, or 2i a lot of the time. They aren't being asked to slant or stunt very much.
Oliver was asked to do all kinds of ridiculous stuff by the Houston staff and it really wasted a lot his ability at times.

Heismanberg's boi Oliver is DT1, 5th overall (2nd d lineman behind EDGE1 Montez Sweat)
Joejuan Williams is CB1

1 week til the draft
-
My updated, pulled-from-derriere draft pick guess, if staying at 3:
40% Quinnen
30% JAllen
25% Bosa
5% other (and only "others" i can realistically think of are Oliver or an O-lineman)
-
Pro Football Focus
@PFF
Pressures per pass-rush snap:
Allen – 23.4%
Ferguson – 20.8%
Bosa (17) – 20.7%
Sweat – 18.0%
Ferrell – 17.3%
Q Williams – 16.7%
Burns – 16.5%
Polite – 16.4%
Wilkins – 14.0%
Gary – 13.9%
Simmons – 10.6%
Oliver – 10.2%

I desperately want Josh Allen on this team.

So here's a weird thing that's happening: nobody is looking at Greedy Williams.
Walterfootball sucks, but they've got the most comprehensive list of prospect meetings I've been able to find thus far. (Not just private workouts, but combine meetings, shrine game meeting, senior bowl, etc.)
For comparison's sake:
Byron Murphy
Combine Meeting: Houston, Kansas City, Miami
Pro Day Meeting: Arizona
Private "Official 30" Meeting: Carolina, Detroit, Kansas City, Pittsburgh
Joejuan Williams
Combine: Houston, Kansas City
Pro Day: Chargers
Official 30: Buffalo, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, New England, New Orleans, Tennessee
Private Workout: Atlanta, Dallas, New England
Local Visit: Tennessee
Lonnie Johnson Jr (generally considered a mid round prospect)
Combine: Panthers, Seattle
Official 30: Carolina, Detroit, Kansas City, New England, Tampa, Tennessee
Private workout: Houston
Greedy
Combine: Houston, Miami, Pittsburgh
Pro Day: None
Official 30: None
Private Workout: None
Local Visit: None
Weird. Is he such an elite prospect that it's a waste of time to even kick his tires? Maybe no one thinks he'll be there when their team is on the clock, or they're trying to feign disinterest in the hope that he'll drop to them. But even guys like Ramsey, Peterson, Ward, Claiborne... they were all thoroughly evaluated and scrutinized. And they all seem like safer picks to me than Greedy.
I think he falls out of the first round. Something's fishy.
-
^Not so sure about that. Hockenson also hasn't met with anyone and I'm pretty sure he'll still be a first rounder.
-
Just spitballing because I'm bored (and no, I am not advocating for such a move)....what would you want in addition to the Seahawks #1 pick (#21) and Frank Clark for the #3 pick?
-

I would do this unless Nick Bosa falls
It’s highly unlikely we’ll see a draft day trade for a player on the franchise tag.
-

It's an interesting idea and I think when you hear the Jets being one of the teams talking to the Seahawks (which was again reiterated this AM by Rappaport BTW) it has to be the premise as we don't have a 2nd round pick to trade them and I doubt they'd be interested in swapping Clark for Leo.
If it were to happen I'd imagine it would have to before Wednesday and with a contract extension window of some sort.
I'd be okay coming away from the 1st round with Clark and someone like Bradbury for example.
-
I know there's few bad scenarios, but what's the "worst" case scenario for the Jets as far as the top 2 picks? Murray and Williams going 1&2?
-
I know there's few bad scenarios, but what's the "worst" case scenario for the Jets as far as the top 2 picks? Murray and Williams going 1&2?
That would see Bosa fall to 3, so no, definitely not that.
There is no bad scenario, there are just ways that we can handle it badly.
-
I’d say the worst scenario is
1. Bosa
2. Williams
And then nobody wants Murray as bad as the media thinks.
-
Anyone remember what time R1 generally ends? 11pm? Later?
-

Literally best case scenario, as Jets collectively Bosa-gasm.
-
Anyone remember what time R1 generally ends? 11pm? Later?
For me, as soon as the Jets pick.
-
I’m warming up to iDL.
At 3, I don’t really have much of a preference, got Bosa #1, then would be fine with Ed Oliver, Quinnen Williams or Josh Allen.
I think Oliver and Quinnen are better than Allen, but Allen is a much bigger need. We have 2 above average starters at DE in Leo and Hank, and our 2nd highest pick last year in Shepherd. We have 2 very replaceable starters at OLB in Jenkins and Copeland.
If we take Macc’s history into account, he’ll go BPA, which is iDL.
Oliver has been heralded as a future #1 overall pick for years, whereas Quinnen emerged just this year after being a backup to upperclassmen. Take into account that Oliver played on a much, much, much inferior defense at Houston, and he was misused as a NT... he might have an edge over Q within our FO.
-
Maybe this is a stupid question, but why would Oliver be a good pick for this team? Leo and Hank play the ends on our 3-4 line. By definition, that only leaves one more position on the line open, which is the specific position everyone keeps saying Oliver was misused as.
I understand BPA, and even apart from my yearly stance that I only believe in BPA at positions of need, this seems like a wasted pick. Either they're going to have to play him in a position that doesn't take advantage of his talent, or they have to bench Anderson, which seems ridiculous given they just re-signed him.
-
Maybe this is a stupid question, but why would Oliver be a good pick for this team? Leo and Hank play the ends on our 3-4 line.
Stop looking at them as DEs and look at them as what technique they are playing.
Oliver can wreak havoc as a zero through 3 technique inside. Anderson and Williams can both play the 5. So can Jordan Jenkins.
Any spot inside where Oliver lines up is a potential problem for an offensive line. He also has enough athleticism to stand up and play some ILB and OLB.
-

As always, I know little about most of the guys in the draft. That said, I'm not a big fan of putting guys in positions they aren't already known to excel in. Sheldon Richardson taught me that talent alone doesn't mean you can play multiple positions.
This team isn't in a position to keep taking projects. Yes, they need to draft talent, and while I've made my feelings on strict BPA known, I understand the methodology. But in the first round, this team needs to get a can't-miss starter that fills a need.
-
Ed Oliver is not a project.
The fact that he is versatile does not mean he is a project.
He was one of the best interior defensive linemen in college football for his entire career. He would play there for the Jets.
-
Dennis Waszak Jr.
@DWAZ73
Several teams will have their Day 3 picks for the #NFLDraft made from unique locations.
The #Jets' picks for rounds 4-6 will be made by Army Black Knights parachuting into the West Point military base.
Sure why not. Go Sportriotism!
-
Sure why not. Go Sportriotism!
What in the hell does that specific scenario have to do with the Jets? So odd....
How many dudes are they going to have parachuting? What if we start trading players and end up with 5 picks in that 4-6 span?
Such a weird idea. But then again ever since they started doing the picks from interactive locations, they have all been weird, and it slows the draft down far too much.

I'm fine with Jawaan Taylor and Brian Burns. If we can add two 2nd-round picks, I'd happily move down to take either of them. Sure, I would like to get more, but I don't think that godfather trade is going to be out there.
I'd also love swapping with the Raiders from 3-4 and getting Oliver/Allen.
-
Prediction: we swap with Raiders, nab a 2nd rounder, and take Oliver

it's Murray/QW 1/2. No way Bosa is getting taken at 2.
be prepared for MAGA riots when the Jets take Oliver

He's off the phone and has been sitting there stroking his beard for like 30 seconds. Now he's talking to one of his scouts or someone slightly off camera. Christopher Johnson there next to him.
I still hate our team logo, at least the "New York" part.

As long as he's better than Dee Milliner.
Also, we have to be playing a lot of 4-3 now, right?

Nathan Shepherd was an absolute waste of a pick
Yes.

This next pick probably explains why we couldn't find a trade...
-
lmao
-
That was unexpected, although it really shouldn't surprise me with the Raiders.
-
I don't get why we keep going for defensive linemen. The amount of times that has some how come up as a need at draft time vs. the amount of defensive line we've drafted in the first round is mind-boggling.

Nathan Shepherd was an absolute waste of a pick

Why did the Raiders kick their scouts out over fear of leaks? They could have taken out a double page ad in the LA Times informing the NFL and the world at large that they were taking Ferrell at #4 and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Unfortunately, they already claimed all his family in that draft, so the entire Ginn family is already off the board.

After skipping on Darnold and drafting Jones the next year. It's going to be glorious.

Has to be considered a RT only and that’s why he’s sliding.
That said, Giants have to take him or Dillard here

Jones-Haskins rivalry should last about 18 months

Wtf are they doing?

This draft just wasted Saquon Barkley’s prime.
Props to Gettleman for ensuring he never is a GM again after this year

Packers traded up ahead of the Ravens.
Here goes the receiver

They gave up virtually nothing to trade up. Good move for the Pack

No idea why they jumped up for a Safety. But giving up 2 4s to get up 8 spots for your guy is just fine

Here comes the trades. Philly on the clock probably Abrams right?

Tytus Howard, wow.

Almost as much of a reach as Daniel Jones.

Taylor being a right tackle is killing his stock apparently.

That’s actually a good pick...and one that was pretty easy to predict.

We just might get ourselves a starting cornerback tomorrow night.

Ravens are going to get Sweat or Taylor.

I would trade a future first for Greedy Williams

4 and 24 becomes Clelin and Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs is best RB in draft, but you could get a comparable back in 2nd or 3rd.
Better options to improve the secondary, o-line were available.

Greedy, Taylor, or Metcalf
Since we don’t have a 2 this year, wouldn’t it likely cost #68 and next years #1 and #3?
That’s an awful lot to give for any player still around at 27

Raider picks end up being Ferrell, Jacobs, Abram.
On paper that is not great. Could have been Josh Allen, Greedy, JTaylor, or 50 other superior combos. Mayock and Gruden have their own way of evaluating, we'll see how it pans out.

Anyone think it's safe to assume we aren't making the big move up the board any more?
Skill players seem to be holding steady on the board. If that run can hold off a few more picks maybe 50 or so, we will have a WR worth talking about staring us in the face.
But I think our chances of grabbing a C in McCoy or Jenkins is highly unlikely at this point
-
Who was it who mentioned it was odd Greedy Williams didn't go on many visits? Props to that call. I think it was Reuben who mentioned that.

lol exactly, I wasn't about to jinx it.
-
Lot of good running back talent.
I agree, but why would we do that? I wouldn’t hate it but it seems like a misuse of resources. I dropped them all off my board
-
Ok, so Hardman is the Tyreek replacement.
-
Goodbye Tyreek.
-
I agree, but why would we do that? I wouldn’t hate it but it seems like a misuse of resources. I dropped them all off my board
My thoughts as well. Use the 3rds for edge, CB, WR, or Oline before RB.
-
Shhhhhh
I don't trust Mac...admittedly nervous
-
Here go all the receivers
-
Here go all the receivers
Still 5-6 I would be happy with, and a few others I would be Ok with.
Based on nothing at all I think we go CB or EDGE
-
Butler Dk and Harmon still on the board correct? Sucks to see Jj go.
Also Henderson is still around at RB. Whose the top OL still remaining? In this case I kind of hope we go BPA offense And not force an OL like the Texans have been
-
No RBs, guys. Leveon is a 3 down back and we’re paying him like one. We have 3 guys on the roster perfectly capable of being his backup. Next year is an elite RB class. We have legitimate holes at other positions.
-
*Incoming Macc RB pick*
-

We need playmakers. If we don’t go RB I won’t be upset, but let’s not pretend we don’t need guys who can go the distance any time
-
Maybe it’s David Edwards time for your New York Jets.
-
Who's ready for Mac to take another Safety
-
Gotta believe WR is more BPA than S. If Gase is pissed now.... can’t wait to see him if Mac doesn’t go offense right here
-
Who's ready for Mac to take another Safety
Chauncey would be a great pick, but we can't justify that..
-
Hakeem Butler
DK Metcalf
Jaylon Ferguson
Julian Love
Chase Winowich
-
Chauncey would be a great pick, but we can't justify that..
Or thornhill, rapp, deionte thompson
And then Macc should be fired on the spot
-
Hakeem Butler
DK Metcalf
Jaylon Ferguson
Julian Love
Chase Winowich
The only OL I can think is still on the board that has value right now is Deiter from Wisconsin
-
Josh Rosen just got traded to Miami for 62. Miami did well to trade down and then still flip the second for Rosen. Smart work for them
-
Lolphins
-
LOVEIT
-
There it is
-
Now that Zona is on the clock I wonder if Metcalf is the pick
-
The Williams brothers will feast on his corpse behind that o-line.
-
Did Rosen just go from the 2018 worst team in the league to the 2019 worst team in the league?
What a shame
-
There goes the whide receiver
-
Kliff building a starting O entirely composed of guys shorter than me
-
There goes the whide receiver
Belichick mad
-
Dolphins did a great job this draft so far.
-
How are Fitz, Kirk, and Isabella all gonna play slot at the same time?
-
Down to 4 picks before we are up.
My top guys
Hakeem Butler
D.K. Metcalf
Chase Winovich
Julian Love
Michael Deiter
Darrell Henderson
-
Duff is gonna pick some poopchute with a 6th rd grade on him
-
Seattle OTC, trades up with Pats
-
out next 2 picks should be hakeem butker/dK metcalf and an OL
the way drafts go, were going to draft an S and ILB
-
Duff is gonna pick some poopchute with a 6th rd grade on him
The greater the talent pool at 68, the greater the disappointment.

THIS
-
Initial reaction: "...who?"
-
Also wouldn't be surprised to see Duff's patented move down from 68 to say 76 for a 5 and a 7.
-
DKM to Seattle, damn
-
There he goes
-
Down to 4 picks before we are up.
My top guys
Hakeem Butler
D.K. Metcalf
Chase Winovich
Julian Love
Michael Deiter
Darrell Henderson
Stop with the RB pick, man.
If you must, take whoever’s left in the later rounds of:
Henderson
David Montgomery
justice hill
Damien Harris
Rodney Anderson
Devin singletary
Bryce love
-
Hawks take D.K.
1 down....
3 picks left. I want Butler

Hope DK kills it for Seattle

Damn.

Same.

The greater the talent pool at 68, the greater the disappointment.
This resonates so much it physically hurts
-
Also wouldn't be surprised to see Duff's patented move down from 68 to say 76 for a 5 and a 7.
and those guys won't even make the team
-
I'm happy we're not taking a risk on metcalf. I really want butler.
Sam needs a big body target in the red zone. He turned Pryor into a beast. He could do the same for butler
-
Pitt could def take Butler here. Hopefully SF is set after Deebo
-
Steelers are the only team that could take butler
-
and those guys won't even make the team
Sure they will. They just will get cut in January for a futures contract.
-
Steelers are the only team that could take butler
Trades are a thing...
But I imagine Pitt would be more likely to go CB or with a speedster, like McLaurin to replace Brown rather than a big target.
-
Butler, Winovich, Polite, Oline, CB....a ton to choose from very soon.
-
Butler, Winovich, Polite, Oline, CB....a ton to choose from very soon.
YOU WILL GET NONE

Santonio don’t do this to me

Are you kidding me Pittsburgh hates Tone

That was weird

I think it's going to be Polite.

It's too much to hope for Butler isn't it?
We are on the clock...

Hakeem Butler, Winovich or Jacha Polite plez.

Butler, Winovich, Polite, Oline, CB....a ton to choose from very soon.
Here comes the unknown DIII prospect
-
Please Duff
-
3/4 of the top QBs in the last draft now in the same division. That feels weird.
-
Thats so high for Hurd... And after Deebo?
Whatever, we are up.
-
I want Butler.

Hakeem Butler, Winovich or Jacha Polite plez.
This

Forgot about Polite. Let's gooooo

It's Polite

Jachaiiii

Holy fuckballs!! Jachaiiii! Get your fat derriere up here!!

That could turn out to be the steal of the draft.

The #Jets take #Florida pass-rusher Jachai Polite, who they believe is the 2nd best pass-rusher in the draft.
-
Poor kid got roasted by the ESPN crew.
-
That could turn out to be the steal of the draft.
Or he could be a sloppyfat poopchute. Either or
-
ESPN killed this kid.
Most negative commentary I've heard all night.
-
I of course want offense, but the value there is potentially insane.
Top 15 player before his combine diarrhea bomb. Worth the risk for the upside in the 3rd.
-
Discounted elite passrusher ftw
-
Poor kid got roasted by the ESPN crew.
Yup.
Gotta wonder if we package 105 and 96 to move up to secure an offensive player. Lord knows we need to give Sam something to work with.
But at least we took another swing at a pass rusher.
-
ESPN killed this kid.
Most negative commentary I've heard all night.
McShay squats while he pees.
Kiper at least said he's, "got talent." Quality insight.
-
Nick Mangold, still giving us gifts after all thes3 years.

Why would anyone choose to watch the ESPN feed now that Mayock is gone from NFLN?
Happenstance and bad luck.
My altice one box (I'm going Verizon as soon as I move), went inactive just as we were going to make the pick and when I turned it back on I was so desperate I just scrolled to 36 because when i tried to hit numbers off my remote it wasn't registering.
Caught the analysis, not the live pick from my favorite Mangold.
Otherwise, completely agree freak ESPN. I've really enjoyed Charles Davis insight tonight and I usually find him annoying.
-
Pats keep trading back, I hope they end up with a bag of dildos
-
Well that was freaking dark and depressing.
Hey this guys on his deathbed, anyway with the 74th pick...

There goes deiter
Not liking that either
-
All O-linemen now are basically in same pool, imo.
A quality option will fall. Butler, Ridley, Boykin, Harmon all nice choices at WR.
-
Most of the teams above us have already drafted a wr. There is a good chance butler falls.
-
Honestly if we could scoop Butler at 96 and grab an OL at 105, it’s been a successful middle of the draft.
-

Trade Darron Lee for Patrick Peterson?

Great Story
But that was painful.
-
87 picks down. 7 to go.
Butler is my guy right now. Just hang in there big fella. Hold on
-
butler may make it but we won't take him. i hope im wrong
-
Butler butler butler
-
I think Julian Love could be in play as well
-
I think Julian Love could be in play as well
While Love makes a excrement ton of sense and I could see him as a starter at CB early in his career, we can’t spend our first 3 picks on defense. We simply cant
-
lmao Pat McAfee

Colts are throwing all kinds of shade at the Titans
McAfee has lost his freaking mind hahaha

'we did not punt much against the titans' LMAOOOO

I'm on board with this thinking.
-
Jets traded up to 92 from 93
-
Okay, that woke me up.
-
Jets traded up to 92 from 93
gotta be for just our 7th. Just gotta secure your guy whomever he is.
Hoping for Butler.
-
I'm on board with this thinking.
i go through this every draft. fans always say 'we HAVE to do so and so with this pick'. we just have to wait to see what happens
just last night i was talking about how we HAD to go EDGE at #3 and we weren't addressing it, then duff finds polite at our 3rd rd pick. we found our starting TE in the 4th round last year. i want this pick to be offensive (butler), but we just have to wait and see. it could/will be anything irrespective of what we think our absolute needs are
-
Vikings traded down from 93 also, so clearly the Vikings wanted to move down and were making calls. Guess we like someone a lot.
-
Damn Cowboys got McGovern
-
Yep, Jets gave up their 7th rounder (217) to move from 93 to 92.
-
I really thought that was going to be our guy.
-
I really thought that was going to be our guy.
Trey Pipkins? He was way overhyped on this board
-
I really thought that was going to be our guy.
Same, it would have been sweet value.
-
Plz take Butler. Zero faith in this happening
-
Trey Pipkins? He was way overhyped on this board
McGovern...
-
Well, we clearly knew who we wanted.
-
Got our OL.
-
Ok
-
Took Edoga.
I would rather have taken a guard if we felt we had to go OL.
Maybe Butler will still be there at 104 tomorrow
-
He must have played with Sam
-
He must have played with Sam
Now that you say that, Sam must have given the seal of approval on him at some point in the process
-
Plz take Butler. Zero faith in this happening
Can't wait til we pass on him again in the 4th
-
I didn't look at the OL much in this draft, but we needed to take one, and we got one, so that works.
-
Can't wait til we pass on him again in the 4th
Butler appears to be this years faller that nobody can understand why he's still on the board as we enter into the 5th round.
Still want him, a physical guy with that frame is rare. If he develops he could be a humongous target for Sam.
-

Who's the WR we take instead?

Goddamn patriots

Goddamn patriots
I’m not worried about Cajuste. Dudes a freaking pansy. He was afraid of getting embarrassed by the Syracuse defensive line, he sat out the bowl game.
Dude is a depth player at the pro level IMO.

Yeah, I’ll side with the Pats and Dante Scarnecchia’s records of developing underwhelming OL prospects over your biased and anecdotal scouting report on this one
-
Butler and Harmon are there for the taking....do it, Duff.
let's get Sam some help.

What are the chances Lee gets moved today?
50-50? 25-75?

Steal.

im fine with the trade, plenty of people have fallen . just butthurt. or Butlerhurt
-
Damn Giants
-
freaking Giants
-
We better not trade back for some old derriere defensive lineman
I want Kelvin Harmon
-
there goes Love
-
If I'm reading this right, post trade we are 116 and 168 thanks to the Saints trade.
-
If we don't grab a WR at 116, I'm calling Hunter Renfrow at 168
Hell Orunwariye is my guess for 116
-
If I'm reading this right, post trade we are 116 and 168 thanks to the Saints trade.
Yeah we moved back to 116 and got their 5th rounder
-
I’m on the Harmon train too
-
my list is slowly getting blown up lol
-
they really know how to draw out these picks for ad revenue. fuckin a lol
-
yay, finally someone we dont need

Nooooooo I wanted to go Punter. Biggest hole on our team

Lmao SF picked a punter
-
Nooooooo I wanted to go Punter. Biggest hole on our team
LJF thanks you for this post

i dont have cable so im doing reddit streams that are behind

lolol Riche Eisen

Didn’t think Bryce Love would go until the later rounds
-
Good for him.
-
Just let people keep taking guys we don't want.
3 more slots.
Harmon / Orunwariye
-
On The Clock again
-
Samia is a Viking that's one potential OL gone.
Gotta think it's a coin flip between Harmon and Orunwariye
-
Only 2 guys I liked went between our original pick an where we traded to. Good trade
-
Panthers took a guy in Miller we weren't looking at (probably)
who knows what we are going to do.

Trade down again

Anybody seeing trade details?
The #Jets traded back again.
Titans get the Jets No. 116 & No. 168 pick.
Jets get No. 121 & No. 157 (fifth)
-
Looks like we are sitting at 121 now, but no idea what else we got, espn's tracker doesn't have us with an extra 5, 6 or 7. Maybe future assets?
-
Not sure what the point of that was if we didn’t acquire a pick
-
So we traded down 5 spots in the 4th to move up 11 spots in the 5th?
That's a questionable move
-
Anybody seeing trade details?
Yes, all details are on Twitter almost immediately
-
Not sure what the point of that was if we didn’t acquire a pick
Might as well improve later pick if there are several players we like
-
this is a dumb trade down
Mac loves useless picks in the 5th and 6th apparently
-
Gotta think if we wanted Harmon or Orunwariye, we would have taken them by now.
We seem to be getting into position for Benny Snell.
-
So we traded down 5 spots in the 4th to move up 11 spots in the 5th?
That's a questionable move
There isn’t much value in this class
It was strong up top but not very deep
Moving up in the fifth makes that pick more valuable if they want to trade up later
-
oh well . wake me up when weve traded down so much we have the entire 7th rd
-
this is a dumb trade down
Mac loves useless picks in the 5th and 6th apparently
Why is it dumb?
-
Froholdt Baggins
-
Why is it dumb?
they moved back 5 to move up 11 30 or 40 picks later when they have no idea who the freak will be available lol
that is why.
obviously they have a ton of guys with late 4th/5th rd grades though they wouldve pulled the trigger on somebody by now if they wanted someone
this all started after butler was chosen. my guess is they were all in on butler and as soon as he was gone they decided to target other they think will last into the late 5th
essentially i dont see the point in doing that trade if youre not netting an EXTRA pick.
-
What's the point of tbis trade?
-
They need more picks, not a better 5th rounder by 11 spots.
Wouldn’t say it’s a dumb trade, but relatively useless.
-

Because they have no one on their board with a mid-4th grade, and multiple players with a late-4th, early 5th grade?
It's what the Patriots have done for decades.
-
On the clock!! Maybe?
-

So trade to get an extra pick in that range.

That fifth that’s 11 spots higher is more valuable in a potential trade up later in the draft

yes and i also said that in the very post you quoted lol

Reading's for suckers.

I wouldnt have taken one of the five players drafted between 116 and 121. I think it was a good move down
-
Pick is in. We made 1
-
That fifth that’s 11 spots higher is more valuable in a potential trade up later in the draft
so we can trade up for one of the guys we passed on that we think are so valuable we need to move up for them?
lol
oh well it is what it is. its the 4th round and after Butler im not emotionally attached to any of these guys anymore so its a moot point.
-
Can't wait to see what the heck we decided to do
Harmon and Orunwariye are still there, that's one of the 2 I expect.
If not that, it's an OL
-
Why
-
Wut-sco
-
Neat
-
OK then.
-
our war room is empty lol
And we took......
Trevon Wesco
-
Interesting pick
-
This dude couldn't hold Darren Fells' jock.
-
We could have traded down 15 more times and gotten him
-
mac is good at negotiating trades and contracts
the draft?
not so much.
has he seen the OL and CB depth chart?
hope mr coffee mug gets ousted by Crazy Eyes killah .
-
Noooooo
-
Wesco will be a heck of an all purpose TE for us. Won't challenge Herndon for the top slot, but the guy can catch and do a lot of things for us. Not what I would have done, but he's a guy we will enjoy having on the team.
-
this kid wouldve been available with that 5th pick we traded up from lol

dont worry we will take a 40 yr old DT next. good thing we traded up for him too.

So much for drafting BPA

I think it’s a solid pick
-
So much for drafting BPA
He may have been the top player on our board
-
Bye Bye White Trash TE
-
He may have been the top player on our board
thats the scary part
-
I guess I'll go try out at CB for this team
-
He may have been the top player on our board
That’s possible, but I think 4th round is too high for a blocking TE.
Should have just signed Darren Fells
-
Tony Pollard to Cowboys
Wesco better be the best blocking TE in the NFL
-
That’s possible, but I think 4th round is too high for a blocking TE.
Should have just signed Darren Fells
Dude is an old-school do it all guy. It's not that he can't catch, it's that he won't challenge Herndon for top option. Wesco is an all-around TE capable of doing it all. As a #1 option, he's not a great fit there, but as the #2 TE he will make plenty of plays in big moments when he doesn't have any attention on him and he can do all the other things, and will likely be a big special teams contributor as well.
He's not the guy I wanted, but Wesco will be a guy 3 years from now that's a fan favorite because he's always making some kind of play in a big moment when we need it.

What year will this guy ever see the field?
Day one core special teamer. Replaces Avery Williamson next year or the year after.
-
I'm just glad we haven't drafted anyone in their mid-twenties.
-
Looks like a hell of an athlete.
-
Disappointed they couldnt get a pick for Lee by now. Clearly he isnt coming back
-
Sorry, I’m not going to get excited about drafting special teams players when we have legitimate question marks at starting CB and C.

You know it is the 5th round? Not gonna find starting CB and C as a rookie here very often.
I dont know much about Cashman but I'm not upset about not drafting for need in the 5th round.

Probably gonna end up getting moved in a player swap
-

Maybe not C, but there were plenty of talented CBs left.
-
Clearly the FO is a lot higher on Johnathot Harrison than the rest of us
-
Drafting for need in the late rounds doesn’t make sense
Just take good players
Cashman is a good player
-

Everybody else is passing on them too
Weak group
-
Let’s see what we do with UDFAs too
-

I'm nowhere near as down on Harrison as most here. I think he could do well for us.
I don't know how difficult his contract will be to move, but I wonder if Nick Easton is going to be made available in New Orleans.
Regardless, there were three starting centers in the draft and they were all gone by the middle of the second round. We took an insane value with our first pick in the third, and then the next two picks were all about protecting Sam Darnold.
-
If he would’ve drafted another 30 year old DL, I’d be up in arms but Macc is having a great draft
-

Yeah, I agree. And I'm rarely impressed by our drafts during and immediately after.
I want Rodney Anderson with the last pick.
-
Sorry for continuing to be a miserable poopchute, but it appears that the only draft pick that will help Darnold in 2019 is a blocking TE. To me, that’s a failure.
Obviously we had a good FA in acquiring Osmele, Crowder, and Bell, but this is the draft thread.
-
Benzschawel still available
-
On the plus note, there should be a ton of talented WRs in UDFA. Decent amount of RBs too but idk if any of either will crack the roster
-
Cardinals just picked their 3rd WR of this draft.
Andy Isabella
Hakeem Butler
KeeSean Johnson
And they already had Fitz and Christian Kirk.
I would prefer that type of draft to set up a young QB for success.
-
theres hasnt been a player we drafted i dont like. i guess its the ugly realization were a year away from a fully fleshed out roster
CB and OL need to be a major priority next offseason, and a outside WR if Anderson doesnt develop and get extended
-
Cardinals take Lamont Gaillard
-
Cardinals take Lamont Gaillard
yeah......i honestly feel like he might be better than Harrison today lol felt like he was plug and play but im done stressing over picks this late
-
Part of me wanted Keesean Johnson for the lulz
-
It's Derrick Jones Jjoonnaatthhaann Harrison szn, no worries
-
Derrick Jones will have a better pro career than Daniel Jones
-

lololol Harrison is C+ serviceable but we do have a past his prime Trumaine coming off the worst season of his carrer and darryl roberts as our outside CBs
not comforting at all

Let's revisit in a year
-
Let's revisit in a year
you mean 1 year after the rookie QB and 3 years into Derrick Jones career?
makes sense lol
i still dont see Derrick Jones doing excrement he wouldve cracked the lineup last yr if he was going to do anything
hope im wrong.
-
Derrick Jones got outsnapped by Rashard Robinson last year
-
5 away. Still like Harmon...
-

Because Bowles has a well-documented bias towards experience and Robinson was the more experienced player. Jones was a wide receiver in college who converted to corner and was still learning to play the position.
Burnett got outsnapped by Kearse. Was Kearse the better player?

for the sake of this team i hope im wrong. i just dont see it being the case
Daniel Jones is a good prospect. he was overdrafted though. I saw him going to the Giants at 17 . not 6. I dont see him as a human trashcan that people seem to think he is though lol

Right, and Hackenberg is still learning to play QB til this day
/Deontay Wilder

i cant say excrement because i was on the Wilder bandwaggon lol
i hated Hackenberg though in fact going into both the Geno and Hackenberg drafts i said please anyone but them
but weve all got plenty of misses

Well the Jets are up...

For the record, my comment was meant to be taken as tongue in cheek.

I Will Be Positive About This Pick

Missed 19 of last 20 games due to ACL injury lol

Gezundheit

There's your corner.

Hahaha

Good, another sixth round corner for me to overhype
-
Has played in just five games over last two years
Had season-ending surgery on same knee in back-to-back years

Yeah... that's a tough one to get on board with.
freak it. Good draft. Now I sleep until August.
-
Kid's got talent if he can get healthy.
-
He was one of the best corners in the game before blowing his knee out.
I’m not sure he’ll recover from back-to-back tears but it’s an interesting gamble.

“Austin came into the 2017 season as an up-and-coming prospect, catching NFL scouts' eyes with 14 pass breakups as sophomore (41 tackles, one sack, one INT in 11 starts). He started the first four games of his junior season and then suffered a torn ACL, which ended his season prematurely (12 tackles, one INT, one PBU). Another knee injury occurring in the 2018 opener (three tackles, two for loss, one sack, one interception against Texas State) short-circuited his final year with Scarlet Knights. Instead of seeking a redshirt season, Austin declared himself eligible for the 2019 NFL Draft.”
Seems like another Redshirt CB Pick ala Derrick Jones and Jeremy Clark.
I would prefer a less injury prone prospect, at basically any other position
-
Lol what are you basing this on? How does this guy have a history of making big plays or project to do so?
Yeah I should have specified. I didn’t mean “big” like explosive. Wesco and 30 yard gains are not a common occurrence. I meant “big” as in “clutch” or “impactful” he’s a guy that will get you 6 yards on 3rd and 4, and score 4-5 TDS a year in the red zone as a slip through on a play action rollout. I’d wager he makes 1-2 key plays a game for us.

Eerily similar to Jeremy Clark

Again, I’m not sure where you are getting this from. I don’t know much about his college career, so are you saying a fair amount of his 28 receptions over 3 years fall into this category? Or is this just something you foresee happening at the NFL level?
-

As a #2 TE / Hback in the pros, he can catch 20 balls a season in a passhappy offense. He has the ability to run routes and enough athleticism to get open in certain spots with absolutely zero attention on him that he can make some plays. I’m not predicting tons of plays, just that he’s a guy that makes a big play time and again and the casual fan decides he’s a great guy on the roster.
-
Rodney Anderson to Bengals
The Robby/Rodney Anderson dream is dead.
-
30 picks to go, and there’s still a bunch of WRs I would be happy with in UDFA
Hopefully that was the plan all along, and have already spoken to a few

There will be a back or two worth bringing in. As for WR we needed a very specific guy if we were going to take one IMO.
Have to believe we will be a destination for UDFA OLineman and DBs tonight.

Macc does UDFA based on BPA, not on need, everyone knows that

Sure but UDFAs also get a say in where they go (to some extent) OL will be picking us over other teams, same with DBs and WRs. Meanwhile no DL with an alternative should be picking us.
-
Kelechi Osemele is part of this draft class as well
-

He was being grumpy/sarcastic.

He was being grumpy/sarcastic.
Mostly, but there’s also no sense in signing complete scrubs that never have a chance in making it just because they’re at a position of need. Sign the most talented guys that should have actually been drafted. I get L2’s point that the players have a say in where they sign, but just sign talent wherever possible.

Arizona had such a good draft

They picked a midget first overall and traded a 2018 top ten for bottom of the second rounder

I was mainly talking about their day 2 and day 3 picks. Loved every single one besides R7 Joshua Miles who I haven’t heard of
-
What could have been:
Jets tried to position themselves to trade up into 2nd round for Georgia WR Mecole Hardman, per sources... but Chiefs traded up 1 spot ahead (No. 56 overall) to get him to be a potential replacement for Tyreek Hill.
Hardman is going to be game-changer
Manish going Alvin Kamara all over again when Coleman lights it up in KC’s offense
-
Jets attempted to make massive jump into Top 5 of 2nd Rd. NYJ talked to several teams, including Colts (34) & Seahawks (37).
They were trying to move up for a cornerback, per sources. Byron Murphy (33) & Rock Ya-Sin (34) went in Top 5.
Bunting (39) & Mullen (40) followed.
Maniah
-
The cornerback trade-ups make far more sense than the Hardman trade-up.
I like Rock Ya-Sin and Murphy a lot. I would have been willing to dip into next year's draft to get either of those guys. Hardman would have been a headscratcher.
-
i don't think i would have been a big fan of trading up and giving away extra picks to add another player for the defense. i can buy it if its for an offensive piece that'll help sam. there were/are just too many holes we needed to cover
-
Or he could be a sloppyfat poopchute. Either or
NEVER FORGET

One other thing: Roger Goodell will (as suspected) announce first-round picks standing in his basement in Bronxville, N.Y.
As someone who hates pageantry in all its incarnations I'm looking forward to this year's draft more than ever.

He'll still be booed somehow.
