Rules:
We're going to draft the first three rounds. Every GM will have two teams (for now - JE is trying to hijack the rules).
We will group pick for all OPEN teams.
No trades. No skipped picks.
Send a DM to the GM that is ON THE CLOCK after your selection is posted.
If you know you're going to be away from the site (at work, have plans, etc.) for a while, send a Big Board to a couple of other GMs so we can pick for you and keep the draft moving.
---
Selection Format:
Prospect's Name - Position - School
Picture of the Prospect (if possible)
Brief description of why the pick was made
---
Team Selection:
I will randomly assign teams to each GM this afternoon.
If you want to swap teams for an OPEN franchise, that's doable.
-
Why don't you just give everyone three teams? That way you don't have half the league open.
-
Also why do I get pressed into this but Badger doesn't?

message him on Skype and see if YOU CAN CALL

Is anyone absolutely opposed to having three teams per GM?

Yep. We might have 12 or so participants now though.
-
Not opposed to 3, just worried about how far we can get in a weekend before stuff gets hectic for me next week is all.
-
Getting this set up this evening.
Completely forgot it was Easter weekend and my in-laws are here...
-
Everyone good to start this afternoon?
We've got plenty of time to get through three rounds by draft day.

Ready over here. Just need to make draft boards for my squads

Not a huge fan of the QB class, and i love Will Anderson for the Texans. One of their needs is edge rusher, and they fill that need in spades.

I don’t see anyway in the world Houston doesn’t take a QB at 2, despite the fact Will Anderson is obviously a superior prospect to all the remaining QBs.
Do we have a draft order post somewhere that I am missing? Want to make sure I’m calling on the correct GM whenever I make my selection(s).

If this happened, would it be fair to say that 3 of the 5 best pass rushing prospects of the past 20 years were drafted by the Texans?
The other two in my eyes being Myles Garrett and Chase Young. Am I forgetting somebody?

Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack were pretty special.
-
Also it might be recency bias, but although it was only one season Aidan Hutchinson was a Heisman candidate and the consensus #1 until a week or two before the draft.
-
Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack were pretty special.
Aaron Donald was not thought of as an elite, generational prospect, no matter how otherworldly he ultimately became.
Mack was a top prospect, but I don’t remember him being touted like the 5 I mentioned.
-

You misunderstand, I agree with you. If I was in charge of a franchise, I wouldn’t be hitching my career to any of these guys aside from Young.

Oh word.
Even if you didn't agree, i'm open to feedback/criticism.

The "let's not talk about prospects that haven't been drafted yet" rule is not a thing here.
Anthony Richardson is either going to make someone look like a genius or get someone fired. I think Carolina might pull the trigger on him.

All depends on how good your coaching staff is. If you have an MLF, you're fucked...but if you have a Sean Payton or a Nick Sirianni, then AR could be a sweet investment.

Frank Reich and Josh McCown seems pretty good

I think they are too. But I also think they traded up for Young or Stroud.....taking AR at #1 would be a helluva risky swing with all the capital they traded to move up.

I’d be really surprised if Carolina swung that big. I can’t see a scenario where it is a good idea to play Richardson day 1. In Carolina, I have no idea how you can’t play whatever guy you draft day one.
Ultimately I think he gets an entire regime fired. But his best chance to thrive is where he doesn’t play early on.
-
I've been starting to get further into the camp of just betting on traits with quarterbacks. I don't know which quarterbacks will be good. I never was a big Stroud guy. Young is good, but there's also a good chance that 2-3 years from now, you're looking at a 5'11" quarterback who doesn't appear to have elite upside.
Richardson has a low floor, but he is such a freakish athlete. Even if he can't throw, he can run, and he's big enough to take some hits like a Cam Newton. If he can throw a little bit, he can probably be pretty effective. And the ceiling is so high if he hits.
Also, the Will Levis picture is perfect, even if I can't believe he went over Stroud and Richardson.
-
Also, the Will Levis picture is perfect
I was just eating some B&J's Bossin' Creme Pie (meh) but now I need to throw it out and up.
-
I figure there are two landing spots in the top 10 for AR15 where he has a shot, Seattle and Detroit. I was going to take him at 6 with Detroit if Seattle didnt take him.
Instead I’ll pair Jalen Carter with Aidan Hutchinson and watch OL in the NFC North weep

Bears are apparently moving Teven Jenkins to guard this year, so they are presumably in the market for an elite tackle. They seem to be quite high on Braxton Jones so one of them is going to have to learn to play on the right.
-
I find it hard to believe that Stroud will be QB4 on the day.

Very unlikely, but there's always the chance Las Vegas or Indy prefer Will Levis

I'd be shocked if it isn't at least 3.

I love Darnell Wright, and I want Darnell Wright. I think people focusing on the fact that he was a better RT than LT limits their valuation of his talent, but that’s honestly the best case scenario for the Jets. Get a guy who can step in immediately at RT, then figure out your LT solution with three guys who all have histories playing on the left side (Brown, Becton, Mitchell).

I don’t think there is a better scenario than us getting Wright, that’s moderately realistic. Let’s the Bucs parallels continue as we secure a top tier RT at 13, whom others passed on purely because they only saw him as a RT.

well done...love the Wright pick. Such an excellent fit for us.

For some reason I thought I was picking for Washington instead of Green Bay at first. Broderick Jones at 16 is a steal and who I would have taken.

He's got great potential and it's a strong pick, but I think we might see several of the tackles go a little later than expected.

I think so too. The OT class isn’t nearly as good as originally expected. I wouldn’t be shocked if all the lineman aside from 1 are there at 13. I suspect we have a heavy run on DL early followed by corners. I bet we get 8 of those in the top 15. Anderson, Carter, Wilson, Smith, Murphy, Gonzales, Witherspoon, porter Jr.
If that happens that’s 4 QBs, JSN, one lineman and another guy rounding out your top 15.

Thats the hope. Wanted a corner, but if the backup plan is that WR corps? That’s all worth it
-
With the Seahawks grabbing a QB I'd ideally like to grab a weapon, but Flowers would have really been the only player I would consider at 20 besides JSN. Instead, try to fix the disastrous DL with a high-upside pick which the Seahawks seem to love to make in general and take Bresee, who has top 10 talent.
-
Bresee is going to be one of the best value picks in the first round.
There's a couple edge players I'm surprised to still see on the board. This is a good draft to move back in. It's feel like the best value is in the late teens, early 20s.
-
I dont know who Giants Bro is, but they are up.
Darnell Washington isn't the biggest Jags need but he is a really fun pick to make, and it can make logical sense if you love the player.

I would be NERVOUS if I was the Texans fan and we passed on one of the top QBs at 2 and didn’t trade out, but honestly getting a pairing of Anderson and Hooker would be an amazing haul for them.

Yeah, i debated that for a bit. But i think they can ride Mills while Hooker heals and sits for a year. Getting JSN along with the other 2 you mentioned, i love their haul so far.

Oh duh, I forgot about JSN. Absolute dream scenario for them.

Having two top 15 picks and ending up with an old and injured Hendon Hooker would be very underwhelming for me as a Texans fan.
I imagine they would have tried to trade up to get Stroud in this scenario.

He's 25.
Old = Aaron Rodgers
-
I actually think the Texans should roll with Mills. He didn't stand a chance under Lovie Smith's draconian coaching.
-

I'm with Mack on this one.
A prospect that turns 26 as a rookie is not worth a draft choice even if they are perfectly healthy. I also think the offense. that he plays in helped him out quite a bit.

Well, to be fair...i hate this entire QB draft class. And i didn't want to burn a high 1st rounder on one.

It makes sense given how the board fell. My opinion has a strong NYJ bias. I wouldn't want us to draft him.

the only QBs the Jets have shown any interest in to my knowledge are Hacksaw Max Duggan and that Aidan O'Connell kid.

If a guy is that “old” as a QB and is a dominant, sure fire top 5 pick, he’s not worth picking IMO. Brandon Weeden showed that as a good o great college QB, he only was that because he was more experienced and smarter than college sophomores and Juniors etc. when he wasn’t more experienced than everyone else any more in the NFL he never got any better and regressed as a player.
I expect the same for Hooker.
-
My bad.
I had Jumbo’s board but we’re in San Antonio for the night. Just now checking the site.

“Old and injured” is a really short sighted way to view Hooker. He’ll be back healthy soon and it’s just a turn up knee, which is basically a non issue outside of the short time he’ll be out of football action.
As far as his age goes teams in the business of finding QBs can’t be worried about a two or three year difference when it will have almost no affect on his longevity on the team. If he’s entering his prime as a 27 or 28 year old, fine, especially when the money is still good and your only goal is getting him to play at a high level.
I don’t know if Bobby slowik will be legit or another MLF, but he has enough of a pedigree where he’s been to incorporate concepts that made him work at UT. I’d happily use a second on a shot a QB when if you’re not sold on the top group, especially when he could easily be argued as the 3rd best of the group.

He’s four years older than Bryce Young and CJ Stroud.
He’s a system QB that has likely already maxed out physically.
-
He’s four years older than Bryce Young and CJ Stroud.
He’s a system QB that has likely already maxed out physically.
But physically he’s good. He can make the throws he needs to make, his feet, arm, and pocket presence are NFL ready, and he’s an effective runner.
The question is “can he make the mental adjustment?”, which isn’t something that is more likely to hit a guy because he starts in the NFL at a younger age. It’s great that Stroud and Young are younger, but they’re obviously premium prospects. It’s also not a comparison of who is better at age 25, it’s a question of who is better 2/3/4 years from now. If the guy is 25 or 27 or 29 at that point, does it matter?
Also, as far as the system goes, it’s clear Heupel has given him windows to make his life easier, but that’s pretty much the nature of the beast in modern college QB evaluation.
-
If the guy is 25 or 27 or 29 at that point, does it matter?
Have we ever seen an old QB prospect work out?
The only ones I can think of are Weeden, Henson, and Weinke.
-
There's a couple of more traditional linebackers available, but Sanders can help them in two areas of need due to scheme versatility. He can rush the passer from inside linebacker and on the edge. He's got a ways to go as a run defender, but he has the traits to become a special defender.
-

Going straight from the draft to the NFL maybe not, but there are a few guys who didn't get to the NFL until they were older and went on to be great e.g. Warner.
-
Have we ever seen an old QB prospect work out?

I think the better comparison is for guys who just took longer to “get it.” In an era of the money for young QBs being low while the slack is super small for anyone, taking a guy with maturity who you think can play makes sense.
Guys Hooker’s age haven’t worked out a ton because there’s really little precedent for a draft prospect to be that age. Hooker just had the perfect storm of being an old college entrant, having a redshirt, and doing a Covid year, which no one else ever had (outside of guys who added a year bc of a medical red shirt).
-
There were four positions that I was strongly considering for these picks, and the depth at those spots is why I really do hope the Rodgers thing drags on past the draft. Adding two more guys in the second could be huge for us in 2023.
Tippman is a more than acceptable consolation prize to Schmitz, and despite being a really smart player he is also still very much an ascending talent. Getting two OL starters would be a major victory for this team.
Sydney Brown is just a super talented player who doesn’t get the hype that he deserves. I know he fits with what the Jets want from their safeties because he shares a lot of base traits with Lamarcus Joyner (especially the younger version), except just way more explosive as an athlete (9.66 RAS, one of the best of all safeties). There’s really nothing he can’t do or won’t do 100%, which should pair really well with Chuck Clark.
As much as I considered going DT here, the guy that I think would fit best with our need wasn’t the top value, plus I feel like I would be able to hypothetically get a strong rotation guy later with the depth at the position.
-
Sydney Brown is just an all-around badass player
-
I admittedly haven't really been tape-watching Hooker to have that strong of an opinion on him. But if you give me an archetype of a 25-year old QB entering the NFL who didn't break out until age 23 in college, that's not someone too appealing for me.
I don't think he's a bad pick in the 2nd round. I just think the Texans should be taking a swing at one of the other quarterbacks, unless you just hate all of them. MB hates them, so I get it, but I wouldn't love it if I were a Texans fan.
-
Maybe the Jets just take Sydney Brown and Chase Brown and try to recreate our Quinnen/Quincy magic, except with twins.
-

In my hypothetical mock finishing the draft for the Jets, I have Chase Brown as a major option for the 5th rounder. I think he would add some dynamic ability that a Ty Johnson couldn’t as a change of pace back.

Not trying to take anything away from Chase Brown here, but dcm would be a more dynamic back than Ty Johnson.

"I'm hearing the #Texans are not falling in love with CJ Stroud and I don't think they're going to take a QB for the sake of it. There's also something to the fact that Stroud is represented by the same agent (David Mulugheta) who represents Deshaun Watson."

Odds have been wild around the Texans pick. Levis was favored to go No. 2 yesterday morning. Now it's looking like it will be back to Will Anderson.

Was that due to the supposedly leaked draft board though?

Completed my Texans draft....
Will Anderson - EDGE
JSN - WR
Hendon Hooker - QB
Jack Campbell - LB
Andrew Voorhees - G
decent haul for only 3 rounds.
-
Bears:
OT Paris Johnson
NT Siaki Ika
EDGE Isaiah Foskey
CB Kelee Ringo
Not heavy on the skill players but I think fans would be reasonably happy with this draft.
Broncos:
CB DJ Turner
C Luke Wypler
Meh. Not too much you can do when you already mortgaged everything for Russ and don't get a pick until the third round.

That Bears draft is v good

The Cleveland Browns completed their epic franchise altering draft earlier today.
74 - Keeanu Benton
Browns fans are welcome to submit my name for their next GM vacancy.

Great job everyone....we might actually complete this before Thursday night

I have a meeting and then I'll make the Giants pick to keep us going
-
Steen already went to KC at the bottom of the second.
-
Editing, sorry. Was going to take 2 cornerbacks then saw both were taken in the selections thread.
-
Bengals:
RB Jahmyr Gibbs
S Jordan Battle
WR Kayshon Boutte
I don't love Gibbs in the first round but the Bengals are good enough they can afford luxury picks, and I don't trust Mixon to be available next season because he's a dick who's determined to find ways to freak up. Boutte has interesting upside and that offense seems like a good place for him to grow into his potential.

Holy excrement... nobody took Mazi Smith?
We need a master list of updated prospects next year.

I think that’s about where Mazi should go. His athleticism is overhyped. I have him as the 10th DL and he was actually drafted as the 10th DL.
