If losing means we get a franchise QB, I'm in.
Rex is gone no matter what, so the question is about the future.
Do you think colt fans would've rather had 5 wins a few years ago, instead of Andrew Luck?
I'm done having to dream about one day having a freaking top 30 QB

False dichotomy. We don't need to lose to get a QB, and we could still get one if we win.
We could do both or neither. There's no guarantee of anything. There's not even a substantially higher chance of anything.

You don't think the first one or two QB's to go in a draft tend to do better than the rest?
I'm pretty sure if you look back historically you'd see the trend pretty clearly
Better players get drafted early
Better QB's get drafted even earlier
Had we done worse a few years ago we might have drafted Stafford over Sanchez

Who says they're even going to draft a QB?

Maybe the new head coach will be happy starting Geno Smith

Or a FA QB, or literally any other possible alternative.
"We have to lose so we can get Andrew Luck" is retarded.

Any other possible alternative?
Maybe Woody Johnson will pay a billion dollars to clone Peyton Manning
We're drafting a QB if ones available , you don't need to read the tea leaves to see that.
Unless you think the new HC wants to put the future of his franchise and coaching career into Chad Henne, Matt Moore, Geno Smith, Jake locker, or Mark Sanchez

Highly touted newcomer Bill O'Brien just went into his first season with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett and Tom Savage.
There is zero guarantee we're getting a blue chip QB prospect if we lose out.

Of course there's zero guarantee.
But the odds of an incredibly talented QB being available if we have a top 3 pick are drastically greater than if we're drafting at say 11

Not drastically, and way too early to say anything where the QBs are going to go in this draft.

Significant enough of a difference , that I'd rather lose out this year, than not have a top 30 QB again next year

How's that working out for JAX?
-

I suppose we could sign Blake Bortles backup Chad Henne instead of drafting a QB.
That would be much better
And despite having Allen Robinson, Cecil Shorts, Clay Harbor, and Toby Gerhart as his offensive weapons.
Blake Bortles has a higher QB rating as a rookie than Geno did both this and last year
-

Tampa may take a QB early. I doubt anyone else does.

Picks number 32 Teddy Bridgewater and 36 Derek Carr both have higher passer ratings than Geno and Bortles. Your argument holds no water.

Well lets look back a little further
http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?type=position
You can see a pretty clear cut trend.
Some guys fell through the cracks (Foles, Wilson, Kaep)
But frequently the best guys go first
Luck, Newton, Bradford, Stafford, Ryan, Flacco, Smith Rodgers, Manning Rivers etc etc
Or put differently if you went back the last 10 years I think youll clearly notice that the first 2~ QBs drafted each year tend to be better than the rest of the list.
-
So who are these awesome QBs that will be in the top 5?
Mariota? Jameis?
I'm not seeing it.

The more someone wants their team to lose for a better pick, the less you know they know about the draft.

freak draft picks, theyre just lottery tickets
Theres no trend about the best qbs being picked early or anything.
-
Teams that draft well do so no matter where they pick. Teams that draft poorly do so no matter where they pick. I want my team to win games and draft well.

That sums it up more neatly and accurately than I think I've ever seen it done before. Well played.
-
Sometimes I think the Jets should actively try to be 0-16. They'd probably freak it up and win the Super Bowl.

Except there's a world of difference between landing a guy like Wilkerson or Richardson which were both excellent draft picks (but both aren't QB's)
And landing on a guy who can carry your franchise for 10-15 years at QB
Elite QB prospects don't stay on the board long.
Guys like Kaep and Wilson fell because they didn't fit the "mold". But I suspect those two will impact future drafts.
Even shitty franchises can land great players with the right picks.
Look at freaking Detroit. They were one of the worst teams in the history of all sports.
It ended up getting them suh, fairley, Stafford, and Johnson.
Had they won 2 more games or so in each of those seasons they wouldn't have the 3 best players in their team
And now they're a pretty freaking good team because they sucked their way into a franchise defining player.
A few spots at the top of a draft is absolutely huge
-

The Lions have had 10 top 10 picks since 2002 and it has gotten them nowhere.

I never said they were a model organization.
But they got the best wide receiver in the HISTORY of the game, a legitimate franchise QB (or close to it) , and one of the best defensive players in the league.
-
The best wide receiver in the history of the game is Jerry Rice. Calvin Johnson might yet write his name in the books but that's a ridiculous statement to make.
Most talented? Maybe. Best? You're a blubbering hoo-ha.

Rice caught most of his passes from Monatana and Young
Johnson got most of his from Shaun Hill,. Orlovsky, Kitna, Harrington, and Stafford.
Regardless Johnson's name is up there with Rice, I really have zero interest in arguing 1&2 vs 2&1
Detroit went from literally one of the very worst sports teams of all time, miraculously having a 0 win season. To a pretty good team. And lucking out into early picks with Stafford Johnson and Suh is a MASSIVE part of the reason why.
To deny that draft position combined with who comes out is a huge factor in a teams success is absurd.
The Bengals luck/sucked their way into AJ Green one year. And because of that theyll be a perennial power in the AFC.
The guys a one man offense

Jaboo choo choooooo

The Jets should draft Winston and then immediately take him on hooker/drinking benders. Kind of like when your Dad caught you with a cigarette and made you smoke the whole pack back-to-back until you were sick of them. Get it out of his system.

Fixed.

Breaking news: Jets QB Jameis Winston found dead in NYC nightclub. Suspected cause of death: cocaine overdose. Woody Johnson has no comment.

This made me think about Casey Johnson and then made me sad for Woody in your fictional scenario.

If the Jets lose out, a big if, they will end up with a top 3 draft pick. This will give the Jets more flexibility, and it isn't about this player or that player, such as the other argument in this thread. It is about flexibility.
Again, I will root for wins, but in the end, the more flexibility this team has the better.

Having a top pick hardly guarantees success. We're 1 for 5 on Top 10 picks since 2000, and possibly 1 for 6 depending on Milliner.

I think you mean 1 for 4, 1 for 5 depending on Milliner.
Robertson
Brick
Gholston
Sanchez

Having a top pick guarantees having a more talented talent pool to select from though
-
Our drafting history over the past few years has been very good in the first round so I'm not too nervous. Coples and Milliner have underperformed but they're not busts, yet.

We're not just talking any pick though. It's sucking for a potential franchise QB.

I don't even know if I'd count Coples against the current FO since that was a very different group.

Todd Gurley isn't going to fix this team.

Idk Gurley and Keley sounds pretty good together.
But after recalling that last quarterback who got hyped up as the next...
-
With his off the field issues I'm not so sure Winston goes in the top 5, unless of course we have a top 5 pick.
With that said, there is no way in hell I don't want to see improvement in the last 7 games. Win or lose.

Honestly it seems like the team gave up
I mean there's parts of our team that just suck, and nothing will change that.
But it seems like our run game and run defense have quit
Either that or they're way worse than we thought

Looked like they yesterday early on, but they adjusted and hung in there until the end. I honestly thought it was going to be 63-0 there for a while. They didn't give up, they just aren't good.

Recipe for High Draft Pick Potion:
-Get a bucket of bleach and bring it into a small, windowless room.
-Add ammonia to the bucket.
-Wait next to the bucket for your team to tank, thus guaranteeing a Super Bowl victory.

Hahahahahaha
