Gase might not be quite such a queynte this week.
Now everyone go cheer for the Winnipeg Blue bombers in the Grey Cup, kicking off at 6pm.
-
My personal highlight of the game was when the Raiders fan in front of us tried to throw his flag away in disgust and the wind blew it back into his face.
-
“Wow Jets win huh”

If the Miami game was one of the darkest points for Jets fans in years, this is one of the more positive moments for Jets fans in years.
3 wins in a row. 2 straight blowouts. Darnold looking like the real deal.
Jets OL, LB and CBs have been destroyed by injuries and incompetence this season, but all 3 of those units played well today.
-
I honestly can't think of a bad play by Darnold today. No errant throws, no bad decisions that I can recall.

The @nyjets are the first team 4+ games under .500 to beat a team with a winning record by 30+ points since 12/14/1997, when the 2-12 Colts beat the 9-5 Dolphins, 41-0.
They are also the first team in NFL history to score exactly 34 points in three straight games.
-
Earring 3-0. In bus on way out.
-
CJ Mosley should be back next week too
-
Everything changed when Darnold told Gase his playcalling stunk and gave him his input.

I hate this narrative that was manipulated by Twitter nerds.
It takes away from what Adam Gase and Gregg Williams have done with a below average roster.
I'm glad that Sam Darnold stepped up and asked for some things to change, but Gase has done something you used to bring up a lot: made chicken salad from chicken excrement.

Today’s game was fun...but I’m not ready to annoint Gase yet.
If this team can hang with the Ravens, not necessarily win, but be competitive....I’ll change my tune.

So if we beat Cincinnati, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo, but lose to Baltimore, Gase should be fired?

Wow...you’re quite optimistic.
I’ll take it one week at a time.

Why shouldn't I be optimistic against the Bengals and the Dolphins or the Steelers (starting Devlin Hodges)?
We have the best run defense in the NFL. We just blew out a hot Oakland team that was on track to make the playoffs. We're getting one of our best players back from injury next week.
The Jets are playing really good football right now.
-
Regardless of whether we want to anoint Gase or not, whatever that means, it's pretty foolish to make concrete judgments after 8 games, 3 of which came with a quarterback who isn't even in the NFL anymore.
Gase could be a great coach here. Gase could be a shitty coach here. But the way the fan base completely turned on him at the first sign of trouble was embarrassing. If the were no injuries and Darnold were healthy, I would get it. But Bill Belichick wouldn't have won with the QB-OL combo we had.

So beating on a bunch of bottom feeders will convince you Gase is the guy....ok.
I’m not there yet.
Show me a solid effort against the Ravens and I’ll buy in.

You entered the season having given Gase the benefit of the doubt. I think all new coaches should get the benefit of the doubt unless they are complete disasters, and Gase was not that in Miami.
11 games into the season, considering the Darnold illness and other injuries, what exactly has Gase done to deserve being fired? Everybody who wants to fire Gase. Why? What has he done that is so bad this season?

Pittsburgh is 6-5. Not a bottom-feeder.

Our record would likely be flipped around if Darnold didn't miss time with mono.
Gase has done an outstanding job keeping this team together. They haven't quit on him.

I've said this a bunch, but I really wish we could have found a way to get to 2-6 after 8 games. Everyone laughed me when I would mention playoffs. But we have Cincy and Miami the next 2 games. We should be 6-7.
If we do win the next 2 games, we would then get Baltimore on that Thursday. That will be the most relevant December game the Jets will have played in years. 85% chance we lose it, but if they can win that, then the Dec. 22 home game against Pittsburgh will be a lot of fun (and I would go!).
Jets could still slip up and lose to Cincy or Miami, but we will be favored in both games. It would be fun to make the Ravens game relevant.

SFD loves Berrios now

I'm going to the Buffalo game week 17 with a couple of buddies who are Bills fans. If we're somehow going into that game at 8-7 I will fear for my life, I might have to pay for MB's flight just to act as my bodyguard. They don't like us at the best of times.

(also, I'm pretty sure in this scenario, the Bills would be locked into the 5 seed before our Week 17 game, so they might bench people).

Great game. Also netted me some money.
When I see our players get hurt now I just laugh because half of them are guys off the street. We’re pulling off a master class in evaluating our depth

He should show up in a British redcoat....he’ll get plenty of high 5s for that.

The stalk-n-slant play to Berrios was a thing of beauty.
The Jets came out in bunch right formation and showed bubble screen, Berrios pretended to stalk block the defender then broke inside.
-
You've never been to Buffalo, have you?
Rented a car there once on the way to Niagara Falls. That's enough for me.

Did SFD’s head explode on the Berrios slant?

I honestly can't think of a bad play by Darnold today. No errant throws, no bad decisions that I can recall.
The play where he clearly had a 20 yard scramble ahead of him, but chose to thread the needle to Robby over one defender with other right in his hip pocket, was a bad decision.
But it worked out, so I don't care.
-
Just rewatched that Darnold pass to Robby....there was no one near Robby, but that pass was nearly tipped by the defender in front of him.
-

So he assessed his options, decided he could make the pass, then did. "Nearly tipped" is just a different interpretation of "accurate".
-
The risk of making that pass on a 3rd down wasn't worth it when he had a 99.9% chance of making the first down by foot, and at least 10 extra yards on top of that.
But you're right. I'm definitely not complaining since he completed the pass, but it was far too risky given the circumstance. I didn't like the decision, just the execution of it.
-
I agree with Klax, there is no downside to a free first down. But it worked so who cares?

He took a freaking stupid sack in the 1st half. I think it was on the drive where Fricken missed the FG attempt. He had plenty of time to make a better decision and didn't.
I also agree that he should have ran the ball, he didn't and it worked out, so it was great. You know keen analysis there.

He might see that on film and run it next time on 3rd and 2. Love the confidence and the execution though.

I’m totally shocked by how Greg Williams has the defense playing. Pass rush has been pretty impressive in recent weeks and the secondary, despite the corners being replacement level players, is holding it together. Especially when you consider that Adams is at the LOS (or blitzing) seemingly 70% of the time.
freaking great work by Williams

This. We have two guys starting at corner that would be a CB3 on every other team in the league.

And we're down about four LBs. Good thing we have a safety who can be everywhere at once.

I don't think the narrative came from Twitter nerds. It came from the media.
But your point is valid and can't be overstated. Gase and Williams are doing an incredible job with a roster full of backups.

FTR, I was against before he was hired, and every day since he got the job. It's not like I decided to hate him when they lost a few games.
That said, I'm in a bit of a holding pattern on my vitriol right now. I thought we'd at best be competitive against Oakland. I never dreamed they could not only win but dominate. Now, I'm giving a bit of wait-and-see rope to this staff.

This is still the Gase that put that game plan together for Miami, and resides over the NFLs worst offense for the first 8 weeks of the season (which includes terrible performances with his QB even though Sam did miss some games)
He deserves credit for the scripts the past few weeks, as we have scored a TD several straight weeks on the opening drive. But I’m unwilling to jump to the polar opposite because he put together a good game plan against the teams with the current #2, and #4 overall picks and a team that came across the country in Oakland.
-
I dont understand why there is an anti-Gase train and a polar opposite train.
The rational train is that Gase has had some good games and some bad games and is trending up.
I dont think there is anyone on this board that thinks he has done an amazing job. Hes been decent. Some positives, some negatives

Is there? I hated Gase as a hire based upon his history, his personality and the overwhelming evidence that he's a garbage head coach. I still hate Gase as a hire for all the same reasons. Through the first eight games he showed absolutely nothing, but in the last three against excrement teams there have been signs of life. I'm prepared to change my mind on him but I'll need a lot more evidence to do so.
I don't think anyone is 100% pro or anti at this point, regardless of starting point.

If I had a problem with lost causes I'd have given up following pretty much all of my sports teams a long time ago, this one included.
