Not ideal

Blake Cashman SZN
-
Wow. Awful. Why was he playing with 2s in the first place?
-
Wow. That's a big loss. It honestly didn't look like that serious of an injury with him walking off the field.
-
Maybe we can get Darron Lee back after cut-down day.
-

No idea, but he is not the best fit in Williams’ scheme.
Maybe he was competing for playing time as well. Cashman was already taking his reps in nickel situations.
Burgess and Cashman have to step up.

Our DL is strong enough to protect a weak link at LB.
CB is still the main concern for this team.

Not to mention, the way the NFL is going, it might be better off for us to play more 4-2-5 and replace Williamson with a safety. Williamson's role was likely to decline some this year anyway.

He is an old school player. Not an every down player, similar to David Harris and Bart Scott.
Speed is most important behind a strong DL.
There’s no better LB in the NFL for Cashman to play next to. Mosley will take care of him.

He's not an every down player, but he was last year. He literally played 99.3% of our snaps last season, including every snap on 1st and 2nd down.
I really like Williamson, but his injury does allow us to get more speed on the field. Cashman needs to get healthy and contribute right away.
-
Couple things - why was he on the field, why did we trade Darron Lee for basically nothing
-
So next season we can either have an $8.5 million inside linebacker coming off a torn ACL or cut him for $2 million in dead cap. Safe to say Avery Williamson is one and done as a New York Jet.
I liked him. Tough break.

I'd rather have Cashman. Lee was never going to fit Geg's culture.
-
This is going to open up more opportunity at the bottom of the roster, too. I'd like to see CJ Mosley earn a spot on the practice squad.

Seemed like a good dude, too. Always liked his interviews with Joe and Evan.
-
I dont seethe issue with him playing with the 2s.
The Falcons starters were still in.
His position and CJs positions are different
He may have been taking over play calling duties as well with CJ out
Hindsight is 20:20
I do think this limits our ability to play more 4-3 looks. Unless we move to a SEA type of scheme with a LEO
-
Looks like Hewitt and Cashman are going to rotate next to Mosley, at least in the early going.

If we aren’t trading him, we need him to start. So glad to see he is on the road to recovery
-
Can someone change the thread title? Tx.
-
LOL I thought he did it again.

Same. Enough doom and gloom everywhere.
Thanks guys.
-
I want to keep him. Regardless of Gregg's affinity for Burgess
-
As long as they don't need the cash, and right now it doesn't look like they will, I'd keep him. Both he and Mosley are coming back from season-long injuries. Hopefully, they both play up to their potential, but at the very least, you hope at least between them, we get a full 16 games.

They're taking up $26M of cap space between them, more than any other ILB tandem in the league, and they played two games between them last season. They are going to have to be incredibly good to represent anything approaching value.

Certainly. But in a year we already have two talented guys under contract, and not much else to spend money on, just keep them. Unless, of course, someone comes along with an offer of trade for one of them (though doubtful due to lack of physicals).
Or dump Williamson, then front-load the hell out of a Jamal extension.

I go with option B. Not that I don't like Williamson, but having that much money tied up in two MLBs who have both had serious injuries concerns me greatly.
-
Williamson for Trent Williams would make me so happy. Come on, Ron!
-
Williamoson has a radio show and seems like a great dude. He and Mosely never had an injury history until they came here, go figure. If they both come back from injury and can play at their previosu level the MLB's on the Jets might be a top 2 or 3 unit in the league.

mosley coming back this upcoming year will feel like a new signing. good to look forward to

The Mosely contract is an abortion.

The Mosely contract is an abortion.
Yep, hate it. That and Bell’s contract.
-
Both contracts are bad, especially the Mosley one. But if Mosley is healthy, he's still one of the best linebackers in the NFL. Like Swordz said, it will basically be like a brand new addition.

I’m prepared for him to come back out of shape because of coronavirus, fail a drug test, and be a waste in 2020. Didn’t he also get us to sign his brother?
Call me a pessimist but that injury milking display of his last season has him guilty until innocent for me. A full season basically out from a strained rooster in the first half of week 1

I'm willing to give him a pass. Got hurt Week 1 and clearly reinjured himself when he tried to return. Maybe he could have come back in the last 2-3 weeks, but who cares at that point. I forgot we signed his brother.
-

IF Mosely is healthy.
I think the reason we haven’t released Williamson yet is because JD wants to see both him and Mosely in action. With both starters coming off of injuries he probably wants to rule out lingering issues for at least one of them before letting the other one go.
-
Mosley should be fine now that it's been surgically repaired. The medical staff really botched that situation.
He should've just had surgery right away.
-
We are very deep at ILB and DL now, at least. Even if Williamson gets released, we still have a solid LB corps.
-

EXACTLY. Not sure how Mosley could be blamed for this. He was a beast against Buffalo then injured himself and then tried to come back early with the permission of the docs against the Pats and reinjured himself. The guy is amazing when healthy. Him, Williamson and Onwasor should form one of the best groups in the league. Yeah, that would be a lot of money committed to them but it’s not like our roster is full with stars demanding big contracts.
-
I’m very curious what we paid Onwusor

Blamed for which part? I don't recall anyone saying this was his fault. Except Pope but I assumed that was part of his schtick and not to be taken seriously.

The Mosely contract is an abortion.
How? Given our situation the contract is fine.
Mosely is an all pro mlb who is young and a tempo setter like Jamal.
As a team who was and still is devoid of talent you jump at the opportunity to sign one of these players and you pay what you need to in order to get one. Mosely isn't handcapping this team in anyway. You generally don't want to overpay at MLB, but him and Jamal will be able to keep this defense competitive no matter who else surrounds them.

How is Mosely possibly worth that much? I love that he's on the team, spending that much on him was bullshit.

I’m mostly giving Mosley a hard time because I hate his contract. Maccagnan was throwing money around like it was going out of style
-

I think when the cap goes up next year his contract won’t be nearly as awful.
Plus it’s the only way we could get him. Any less and he was going back to the Ravens
-
I might not be remembering well but I feel like the Jets had a lot of money they had to spend, with the rules about minimum spending and all.
They're still way under the cap even now with both Mosley and Williamson under contract--and they haven't even dumped Winters yet.
The only way I'll be disappointed with the excessive contracts is if they don't do an Adams extension with front-loading while they have the chance.
-

Its in line with the top mlb in the NFL
2019 - 4mil less than wagner
2020 - 3MM more than Wagner, 2 MM more than Myles Jack
2021 - within 1 million of Kwon Alexander and Wagner
Also Zadarius Smith is getting paid more and doing less for the Packers at OLB.

Thank you for further evidence that this contract helped ruin the market at OLB.

Weird, it's like contracts for other players can be bad. Also how is he doing less?

13.5 sacks?

Except CJ got his contract after those players...
CJ is a top 3 mlb who runs the defense
Zadarius smith isnt even a top 10 pass rusher
-
CJ is a botched diagnosis and mishandled therapy plan in a green jersey. Until he proves he’s healthy next season, that’s it.

He was never injured before in his career. We were unlucky. It happened. Actually it happens to us all the time, you should be used to it by now.

Just wait till Jamal's knee caps both explode as soon as he signs an extension with us.

Don't care. Straight up don't care what his injury history was earlier. We have two injured starters until they play healthy.

Has anyone actually looked at this guys contact? Says in 2020 he’s an $8M cal hit but $10M dead cap.
Next year he’s an 8.5 cap hit and $2M dead cap

This guy was a beast 2 years ago, pray to Steiny that we get to see Mosley and Williamson on the field at the same time this season

Craftsman Truck Series is back babbie!

Williamson not exactly optimistic about this season.

#Jets LB Avery Williamson recently agreed to a restructured contract worth $3.5M for this season, including $1M guaranteed, per source. Max $5M with incentives. The move saves New York $3M in cash and $3.75M in cap space.
-
Williamson has been working with the backups a lot this summer. Seems odd. Maybe they are just big believers in Hewitt and Cashman and Burgess.
-
Keep a solid player for less. Smart move. Hopefully we bring in another quality veteran or two soon.
It's a pretty good sign that Blake Cashman may have beaten out Williamson for a starting spot.
-

I think he's being eased back into a bigger role but it's not a bad thing if Cashman has actually taken that spot.

It’s not, but wasnt the big knock on Cashman being staying healthy?

Cashman has not been very durable but we have really strong depth at ILB.
-
Williamson was activated just over a week ago and is coming off an ACL tear. I think it’s expected that he’s going to be eased back into the defense after missing an entire year during a pre-season where injuries seem to be coming at a higher rate across the league.
