IM READY LETS GO

Rise up, brethren.

Let's get him caught gas masking weed and draft him at 26.

I don't want a line that's not bad. I don't want a line that's top ten. I want a line that quarterbacks have wet dreams about playing behind.

I would spend the rest of our picks on Gords if I could

Hopefully the org has learned from their retardation and can rule out defense at 2.
That leaves:
Your pick of the QBs
Penei Sewell
Ja’marr Chase
Not sure why anyone would be disappointed with OL. Our OL freaking sucks

Actually our OL is starting to gel. Elflein was a great bargain basement pickup.
My ideal scenario is to entice a team to trade up for Sewell, and drop back a few spots for Wilson.

Bengals seem like the prime candidates for such a trade, but if it were to happen then it means that Douglas isn't that set on Wilson because there's a very good chance that Atlanta wouldn't pass on him.

Who knows, right? We'll have 3 1/2 months to beat it to death though.

For sure. Also, to your other point the OL is better than it was, but still mediocre at best. There are four positions that can easily stand to be upgraded.

I really like Elflein because he's versatile (can play Center as well). The Gords are really the only spots that need attention. I'm good with Fant/Becton/McGovern/Elflein.
I'm not opposed to adding OL depth in the mid to late rounds either. Smart franchises do this.

I assume that one of those is supposed to be run block win rate? It's a little disingenuous as it is for the whole season, and I think we can all recognise that the line is better now than it was to start the season; Becton has established himself, Elflein is here, and Lewis and GvR being out is addition by subtraction.
Still, we can't run to the right and we give up way too much pressure up the middle. Build the freaking wall, Joe.
-
I do think Joe Douglas is the type of guy who would love to draft Sewell and build the OL and then expand to the rest of the roster.

Not disingenuous, the grade is for the whole season. As in, the line is so bad that even with the improvements you stated above, we still have a bottom tier OL.

I would be down for this.

I can only think of one team that has managed to be consistently poor with a good OL - the Browns when they had Thomas, Mack and Schwartz.

Agree with the second statement, I just don't know that the rating reflects what the line is now versus what it averages out to over the last four months. It definitely needs improving though.

Becton -- 76% (19/65)

I think I’d have to talk myself into this pick tbh. The Jets drafted what looks like a really good LT, one who many think will be a perennial pro bowler. They also signed a competent RT... and this offense is still a mess and amongst the worst in the league. QB play only got worse and was by far the biggest weakness for this team.
I’d love a great OL but I still think QB, and even WR, is a bigger need.

So confusing. So an 85% win rate is bad? The dude has been good all year. I dont get jt

I guess if you have 30 passing downs in a game and he gets beat 4-5 times, that's probably not great. It doesn't mean that the QB is getting sacked every time but it probably leads to hurries and pressures.

I'm assuming we'll see the Peen Train use these Next Gen stats all offseason to justify taking an offensive tackle at #2.
Becton and Fant are fine. Our biggest holes on offense are quarterback, right guard, running back, and tight end.

Draft Sewell and have him and Ticket come out of the huddle and randomly switch from left and right tackle each play. Magic tackles.
Or better yet, put Sewell out beside Ticket in jumbo packages. And run nothing but jumbo packages. Run left every time. Like Rex said, we're gonna run it, you know we are and you still can't stop it. freak it, don't even have a QB. Just direct snap to Etienne or Najee Harris (draft both), run left. Every time. 60 rushes a game. Just run whatever offense Army runs. 400 yards per game on the ground. I jizzed a little.

Been saying this since mid season. With sewell on this team you could make the offensive line a weapon. Something you need to gameplan against...
What do you do if the jets line up with sewell and becton next to each other in the red zone? How do you shift your line?

Put your best pass rusher on the opposite side and murder the quarterback.

I presume he's talking about a telegraphed run play in which you're just trusting to your guys' ability to overpower a defense that knows what's coming, in which case putting your pass rush on the other side is just taking him out of the play completely. Which might be what you want, but he's not getting hands on the QB in that scenario.

It's a good idea at the goal line or in short yardage situations, but just inside the redzone, it could be potentially disastrous.
Just about every play caller would have some form of play-action boot out of that look. RIP QB.

Yes agreed, but I made the assumption as I can't see any other scenario in which both on one side made a huge amount of sense for the reason you describe, because you're replacing a starting guard with a swing tackle. And is an out of position tackle going to provide you with a better run block than your starting guard? I feel like that kind of play maybe makes a bit more sense if you had someone like Faalele that you're putting alongside Becton, where you're creating such an immense physical imbalance. Sewell is a huge man but he's not that much bigger than most guards.

Orrrrrr.....
We line them up at tackle and let them block the other team’s best edge rushers

Gruden rode Cadillac into the ground worse than Herm did to Larry Johnson.

No, Larry Johnson is worse. The most egregious use of an RB pretty much ever.

Since there's no TLaw sitting at our pick, can't just draft a QB to draft a QB. QB has to be worth it. Only one you can realistically make the argument for imo is Wilson and even then it's questionable.
Sewell, Wilson, or trade down has gotta be the move.

This is where i'm at too with the caveat being there better be a solid plan regarding the QB position if Wilson isn't the pick.
-
I'd still rather trade down from 2, draft things like OL, WR, TE, EDGE, and CB, and just run Sam into the ground to finish out his rookie deal next year. No option pickup.
If he somehow miracles back to life, it's a nice bonus, but more likely we've just built a really nice team around whoever we trade up to draft in 2022.

The next coach needs to be the one to make the decision on Sam, but if that was the plan he chose, it works for me. By the same token, if he says "Yeah, Sam is trash, we're taking Wilson" I'm in too.

I still think the most likely situation is QB at 2 or trade out. Its possible Sewell could be had at 4 with all the rumors that Miami is falling hard for Devonta Smith.
If you could drop back to 4 with Atlanta and still get Sewell that would be a damned interesting scenario. And if Chase is your fallback option? I can get behind that risk IMO

Versatility is key: #Oregon LT Penei Sewell, the Draft’s consensus top OT, has been training at right tackle as well as left tackle (which he played in college). Sewell is preparing for the possibility that someone with an entrenched LT drafts him & puts him at RT for a year.
