Run him over with a brinks truck with no more than 12.5m yr
Sounds fair. Unless the pats wanna break the bank
I'll go to 13 for the hell of it
Would love Revis to school Milliner
Even Cro gave Revis some credit for teaching him how to be a pro
-
Think about all the Laron Landrys we could have signed with the money it would take to land Revis.
-
Yessssss. Idzik lets do this.
-
I'm pissed it took 4 hours from him getting cut to us making the phone call
-
Just sign him already. He misses his NY endorsement deals

If true, that's very good news.

I'll believe this excrement when I see it. No way Woody wants him back. And even if he did, they won't agree on a contract.
/ lowering expectations
-
What does Hobbe$ think about this?
-
freak you all. Saw the last few replies on Tapatalk and thought he had signed.
-
If true, that's very good news. Shows that there's no hard feelings on Revis' side.
Or the Revis camp knows the guy who is going to get Revis the most money is Rex Ryan, either because Rex will convince the Jets to pay the man, or Rex will get the Jets in the fight and raise the price for somebody else to pay the man.
-
What does Hobbe$ think about this?
Oh god. I forgot about him. Bradway would be insufferable as well.

One year 12 million per Schefter. Guess I have a new least favorite player.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
CB Darrelle Revis and the New England Patriots have reached agreement on a one-year, $12 million deal, league sources told ESPN.
For those who haven't seen it...

Hope he gets hurt and misses the season.

Lol so much for FA
Cro or Captain Midget? Only options left

-
Now I'm wondering if Idzik/Woody told Revis to go freak himself.
-
freak John Idzik.
Not sure you understand what happened today.
Revis called them up to boost his value with New England. He wanted to start a bidding war. It's genius on his part. He's wanted to go to the Patriots from the beginning.
We just were so against it that we were almost blinded.

Good. In which case we should have offered him $14M and made them pay $15M.
Not even reaching out to him is horseshit.

I really hope Idzik only humored Revis to raise his asking price for the Pats

I wish him nothing but the worst

What's going on with that Geiger tweet saying that not his has been agreed.

Well freak that guy.

What's going on with that Geiger tweet saying that not his has been agreed.
John Geiger @JohnGeiger_ 10m
As of now, nothing has been agreed to with Revis and Patriots.

Came 20 minutes AFTER the patriots/Schefter tweet.
Maybe they sent fake info to Schefter, to drive up the Jets asking price ?

I have no freaking clue why hed take a 1 year 12m deal, other than to say freak you to the Jets.
thats literally the ONLY reason why id see someone do that

Who knows. There is no doubt he ends up there even if it isn't finalized yet, it's pretty freaking close to done

Probably because he wants to try and win a ring, and he figures CB prices will go up next year as the cap rises and he proves in an actual man scheme he is the best

He's still all about himself and his money. He sees playing on a successful, high profile team as the best way to get the high profile exposure to secure more money.

Except Geiger is Revis' right hand man.
If I honestly didn't think Revis and Geiger have been in the same room the past 6 hours since he officially got cut, I wouldn't be sure, but you know they have been

I know that - I'm choosing to believe Schefter because it's better than getting my hopes up based on what is likely to be a technicality of some sort.
-
This thread title is wrong. Let's call it what it apparently is - "John Idzik refuses to talk to Revis".
-
Geiger tweets that right before Revis puts the pen to paper, while both laugh maniacally.
-
I know that - I'm choosing to believe Schefter because it's better than getting my hopes up based on what is likely to be a technicality of some sort.
My guess is nothing is finalized, but nobody is going to doubt this gets finalized eventually it's just a matter of when now, no longer if IMO

If you're not interested, then who the freak are we signing to play cornerback?
-
I dont know if we should be proud of Idzik, or outraged.
-
That's pretty ballsy, to not at least listen when Revis calls... That's something.
It's pretty hard to judge just how much Revis was trying to use us if our GM never even picked up the phone.
-
I dont know if we should be proud of Idzik, or outraged.
I choose the latter.
-
Idzik can get fucked. If you can't put any supposed hurt feelings aside in order to explore a unique opportunity, you aren't fit for the job. I've been on this guys side preaching patience, but this just smacks of a guy putting personal feelings ahead of what's right for business.
To not get him is one thing. To not explore the opportunity is completely unacceptable. It's the latter that makes me angrier at this organization then I've ever been.

Am i the only one who would be glad if that bundle of sticks tears his acl in the preseason?
Then he gets fucked for taking a contract which he 100% took to say freak you to the Jets. And the Patriots get 12 millon in dead money on a crippled headcase.

Not to say I'd ever wish injury upon someone, but I certainly wouldn't feel sorry for him or New England if he was hurt for the season.
-

Im wishing someone goes Tonya Harding, or maybe Aaron Hernandez on his derriere.
The guy literally went out of his way to say freak you to the entire Jets Organization.
Not gonna lie, I think we need to worry about this causing a rift between Rex/Idzik too
If Rex wanted Revis back (which I imagine he did), I would figure he has to be absolutely freaking livid right now.
-

You are not alone. First snap of the regular season would be funnier though.
-
Jesus H Christ I thought Pam was the only woman in this forum. Idzik didn't field the call because of Woody.
Have to agree. Remember Woody made it part of the interview process that a new guy have a plan to jettison Revis.
Also, Pam is on this forum? I didn't realize she followed us from TGG. Shows how observant I've been...
-
Lol is it sad that I'm desperately hoping that Geiger dude isn't just trolling

The universe hasn't properly paid us back for destroying Vinnys ACL yet. This would be a good start.

Yeah Rex went right up to Woody and complained to the guy that ordered Idzik to get rid of him in the first place huh?

Probably will end up signing Browner and starting Wilson in the 4 games he's suspended.

I'm fine with wishing injury on someone because I'm pretty sure I have no ability to actually make that happen. I did give someone derriere cancer though...
-
Its shitty that he went to the Pats but honestly do we really expect to compete next season?
With this roster there's almost no point to paying a corner 12 million a year even if we have the cap space.
And quite frankly it probably would have been more then that, he either wanted the Jets to overpay or pretty much have the last laugh for sending him to that pooper Tampa Bay.

Depends on if it was an ultimatum from Woody, or if Idzik just basically said freak this Revis bitch. If Woody said no freaking way, Rex obviously can't hate Idzik as a result, but if Woody said if we can bring him back cheaply, then go for it and Idzik just hung up when Revis camp called, Rex is probably hiring a hit man as we speak.
-
Yeah Rex went right up to Woody and complained to the guy that ordered Idzik to get rid of him in the first place huh?
No, I just imagine that Rex would be pissed off at Idzik.
Hes coaching for his freaking job, and making the playoffs just became that much harder.

Revis is dead to me. Free Agency has left me scratching my head.. what the hell is our plan? Roll over 40 million into 2015?

we don't know whether it was Woody or Idzik or Idzik is busy with Decker and hasn't had a chance to respond yet.

Let's see... Idzik already got us the rookie of the year and a 4th round pick for 1 year of Revis' services. And now we're pissed because we didn't get that player back the very next year.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping we'd be able to bring him back, but I never thought it was very a realistic possibility. There's bad history, and we aren't a very competitive team (at least compared to some of the other teams that seem to be going all in this year).
Brady was always the one I prayed about tearing his ACL before bed, but I think I've found a new target.

It sucks that one of our best players in team history went to a rival franchise but what were to supposed to do about it?
Unfortunately with the way our roster is looking there's way more pressing needs then bringing back someone like Revis.
It isn't unreasonable to be emotional about a player like him not coming back but do we really want someone like him influencing the younger guys in the locker room? Not to mention we'd have to worry about whether or not he'd hold out every off season.
It's very disappointing missing out on the opportunity but in the end what would it have gotten us? Next season I expect a slightly improved offense with our D keeping us in the majority of games just like last season. Dominant D or not were still pretty much fucked on one side of the ball until certain signings are made and the draft comes a long.
There's still a lot of talent to be had at corner that will be far more reasonable then what it would have cost to bring in an elite corner, a luxury that isn't worth it right now.

I'm oddly over it already.
I don't think anyone considers that odd for you.

Yeah, I think I am too. I mean, freak Revis for that excrement, but (1) I pretty much thought this was EXACTLY what would happen as early as last week and (2) meh, we played him already with Geno. And won. Yeah, fluke play and yeah first game back from injury. But these thoughts have given me some peace.

OK, I can work with this. It's a starting point.

look, the reality is Talib played at a shut down corner level last year. Probably almost as good as Revis did (minus the few games Talib missed).
This doesn't make the Pats really any better than they were last year.
I also think they're gonna lose Brandon Spikes, and definitely Edelman if this Revis deal goes through. They also can't ditch amendolas contract and Gronk is coming off a torn ACL.

It will be painful to see one of our greats play for them, but I agree.
The way to beat New England is to get to Tom Brady. Our team is built to hit that sack of used condoms.
-
Tom Brady will be a 37 year old QB before the season starts.
I think that should make some of us feel pretty good.
tick tock tick tock

This is probably true.
Beat up. Brady and the pats are pretty beatable, Revis or no.
But in order to do that with pure awesomeness we need another rusher opposite Coples.
-
I don't think anyone considers that odd for you.
Yeah, it sucks that he's a Patriot, but he was no longer a Jet last season, and many of us were convinced that he'll never be a Jet again. That emotional ship should have sailed. I don't think this will sting as much as people think.

It's just annoying because things ended so acrimoniously when in hindsight it seemed like it didn't need to. If things ended on a more amicable note maybe he'd be back when we really need a CB right now
-

He becomes one of the most beloved Patriots in team history and goes to the HOF? That's a pretty bad scenario.

My hope is that Idzik has a plan and knows what he's doing. As you all know I wouldn't have done the whole Revis thing this way dating back to last year. We had already moved on to a Revis-free future before any of this came up, the detriment here is that it greatly strengthens the team that always finishes ahead of us for the division. We can still probably split two games with them but it's going to be harder now to have a better record over 16 games. Not that we have in over a decade anyway.
Regarding Revis, my guess is he will now go to the highest bidder every year from here out.

Pats can tag him after this year. And the year after that if they wanted.
So there will be no bidding for him. That bundle of sticks is gonna be a patriot for the next 7 years

Yep. He'll work out a long term deal.

Hope it's like 5 years 15 per. They make him suffer for a shitty team once Brady either retires or continues to get old

Confirming: two-year, $32 million deal for Darrelle Revis. $11.5m guaranteed. Second year is a club option for $20m.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 26s
In the end, Revis’ Pats deal turns out to be a two-year deal worth $32M with a team option for $20M in 2015… which means no franchise tag

Yeah it's a 1 year deal.

Also a cute way to say has a 16 million a year contract.

I like that deal a LOT better. The earlier reports of no Franchise Tag clause were wrong, which is tremendous news.
-
I guess technically there was no franchise tag clause because a team wouldn't be able to use a franchise tag after declining a second year option anyway.
-
freak the Pats and Revis. Ugh. I'm going to bed.
-
This deal means that his cap hit this year is lower, giving them more space this year but a bunch of dead money next year. Doesn't seem like a very Patriot way of doing things, everything here screams chasing the closing window.
-

No, you might wake up to Wilkerson traded to Buffalo for a bag of peanuts.
-
I just realised something awesome. This contract means that next year, Revis either gets $20M from the Patriots or becomes a free agent. You know who else is UFA next year? Richard Sherman. Good luck being the highest paid DB in the game next year, Revis. And if you are, good work on crippling whichever team it is paying you.

No, but he is going to get paid big.

You don't need to be a money grubber to get paid how you deserve. I'm not sure anyone though this of Larry Fitzgerald when he cashed in 8yr/128.5mil contract with 50 million guaranteed back in 2011.
Sherman will top Revis if he has another year like he just did.
-
And Sherman will set the market for Revis. Whatever Seattle give Sherman, teams will tell Revis "there's your market. Sherman got $X million and you're not quite as good as Sherman."

"No" is always an option.

I hope you realize, I mean he hasn't held out twice to sign and renegotiate a rookie deal. You think Revis would have played out the deal like Sherman did, all things equal?
Fitzgerald isn't looked at as being a whore because he isn't, he isn't close to, nor should be looked at in the same vain as Revis.
BTW, when I call Revis a whore, he is, but I also respect that athletic careers are finite. It's within his right to get as much as possible in the short span he is an elite athlete.

Revis is now considering a pre-holdout in advance of Sherman's contract.

I've never seen an athlete as widely respected for his ability as Revis act so insecure about getting paid.

Further expanding: Cap hit for this year is likely around 6.5, with 5.5 or so in dead money next year. Unless they renegotiate.

Including what he's getting from New England his career earnings have got to be close to 70 million by now right?

You're missing the point. Sherman will get paid big, and it has nothing to do with him being a money grubbing whore. At least I don't think it will come to that, but stranger excrement has happened.
Revis' money grubbing tactics are well-documented, and completely on another level.

Yeah about that, I am not missing anything. I think you're missing the point that we are both saying the same damn thing and agreeing. GFY Klax.

No, but he is going to get paid big.
Seattle can also franchise tag him and use that for leverage to keep him lower. Dick freak should have an easier time getting more money.
Unless a deranged jet fan shoots him in the knee caps this year

Makes more sense why Idzik wasn't willing to contact Revis' camp. He's well aware of what he and his agents want, and that $20 million year two clause pretty much says it all. Revis just flat out will not do a long term deal unless it's for an insane amount of money, more than any reasonable GM is willing to pay. Idzik could have brought Revis in for the same deal, but why deal with the headache for what would likely be a one year rental?
-
He definitely has some sort of mental illness if he's that obsessed with the 16 million a year average/being the highest paid corner
-

And who knows that better than the Jets? It probably wasn't even a question for Idzik when Revis became available. I sort of respect him for sticking to his guns. freak that nonsense. We're trying to build a perennial winning team here.

not for nothing but can we build a winning team before we worry about being a perennial winner?

Considering we were 8-8 last season, I would say we weren't that far from it.

Everybody and their grandma still considered us not exactly a good team. Everybody thought we had the talent to win 6 at best, which is why Rex Ryan is still around. We need to seriously upgrade the talent across the board to make our chances of the playoffs much better, and much easier to achieve.
-
not for nothing but can we build a winning team before we worry about being a perennial winner?
The league is too transient to build a perennial anything, most teams go year to year. You keep your cornerstones and fill in around them. That's why I was so pissed we traded Revis last year when we had him signed for $6 million for the coming season. You worry about next year next year, and look what happened. You think New England cares what he does next year? You think they will finish ahead of us again?

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what we do in the draft since draft picks are so useless these days.

Do you think we would have finished ahead of them last year with Revis? A one year rental is quite different when in New England's position.

Actually, the trade looks even better now. Revis would have made little practical difference to our season last year, he'd still have been a UFA, Woody would still hate his agents, we still wouldn't have paid him and he'd still have gone to New England, only that way we'd have received nothing. As it is we got Sheldon Richardson and an extra fourth this year for exactly the same outcome.

True franchise QB's make that statement false. The only problem is not many teams have one.

I was pissed for a few hours that we didn't pursue him on Wednesday. I'd have been pissed all season if he'd left us in FA and gone to New England.
-
Holy smokes the absolute best thing that happened was that trade. It would have been the Japanese Tsunami for the Jets fans if they kept Revis and Woody told him to freak himself and he signed with the evil empire.
It worked out great this way. I was never upset the Jets didn't sign Revis, I also like the organization from Idzik up, flipped that bundle of sticks the bird.

We could have still had Richardson, the difference is we wouldn't have Milliner. Either way we have the cap space and no corners now so it's really a wash.

You didn't bold the next part, where I said you keep your cornerstones. Franchise QBs fall into that category, so do Hall of Famers on your defense that can either knock them down or take away their best WR.
Nobody knows what would have happened if we kept him for the year and he then hit the open market. Would he be more pissed about being traded or having to play 2013 for $10 million less than he wanted and got? We don't know. What we do know is it didn't work out very well for us in the end. Again.
-
Except Milliner...who you just mentioned.
We hope.
-

Right. So we would have had Richardson, but no Milliner and still no Revis. It isn't a wash at all, in all scenarios we would have no Revis this coming season, but with the way things worked out we have Milliner and Richardson, as opposed to Milliner or Richardson.
No matter how you slice the what ifs and maybes, we took the right decision at the right time and achieved the best outcome. The perfect outcome would have been for him to have fired Schwartz and Feinsod after being cut by Tampa, called Woody to personally apologise for previous issues and begged to sign a long term team-friendly contract with us, but outside of that little fantasy I'm not sure how things could have worked out better for us.

If Revis were such a cornerstone, why weren't more teams pushing down doors to offer him cornerstone money?

We know Revis. He would have gone to the highest bidder. We weren't willing to pay him $12+ million now, just like we wouldn't have been willing to pay him $12+ million if he had stayed on. It clearly wasn't something Idzik was interested in.
-
If Revis were such a cornerstone, why weren't more teams pushing down doors to offer him cornerstone money?
We don't know that! We don't know anything (except the things in the imaginary scenario where we magically kept Revis forever).
-

Right. That's the part that's so bizarre about any continued argument in favor of keeping Revis. It's all based on hopeful fantasy. We had a great chance to see how all parties felt about each other. Whether Revis was just shining on the Jets is irrelevant because Idzik refused to even field the calls. It's not like any MORE damage was done in the past year. The fact that he had no interest in trying to negotiate with Revis or put out any feelers shows how little we actually wanted him back. I may not personally get not wanting Revis around, but it's the situation we're faced with.
-

some parts make sense. if we signed revis to the same exact deal the patriots did, everyone would be going nuts about the contract instability, his high demands, and the circus it will create next offseason.
-
Revis is just a rental for any team at this point.
Also, how many hall of fame players out there played for more than 3 teams before they hit 30?

My point was simply keeping him for last year when we had him signed for $6 million and then see what the market determined it would be when he became a free agent now. That's what I said then and and that's what I say now.
You all told me then that teams would be jumping to give him $16 million, someone said that earlier this week. As it was just pointed out, if we gave him $12 million and 5 dollars he'd have probably come here. Idzik has moved on, he got a pick for Revis and used it to replace him, so I can understand him not wanting to get in a bidding war with the Pats. I would have at least had a number in mind and had the conversation, but my whole argument with you guys is about what we did last off season, not necessarily now.

It could have worked out better for us if we signed him now after getting the pick for him and pairing him with Milliner, assuming Milliner works out.
The difference between us keeping him for 2013 and letting him hit the open market and what happened is we would have had all that time to deal with it and get a plan together, including the exclusive window teams had to talk to their own players. We know Revis would have gone to the open market, but the Jets would have had more than a few hours to get over their hurt feelings, look at their cap space and consider their options. True, we wouldn't have Milliner, a risk I would have taken.
-

You would prefer this route to the trade? I am sorry but please switch earrings that one is causing your Medulla Oblongata to shrink.
-
Revis wanted his magic $16M/yr number. He wasn't getting that here, unless we offered the same absurd deal that the Pats did where he's due 12M with a 20M option.
In reality it'll probably be a one year deal where he goes to the highest bidder again next year.
-

Remember, the season I wanted to keep him for is now over, so it's kind of pointless to keep arguing about what might have happened. Again, I think you plan for the coming season in the NFL and that's it. That's what New England just did, I think their track record shows they know what they're doing. That's what you do because everyone moves around too much. The days of the Walt Michaels five year plans are long gone.

They have Brady dude they can afford to. If they didn't have Brady and had a mediocre QB, Bellichick would have been fired 5 years ago.

The exclusive window makes no difference to a couple of agents who have been great at maintaining distance from teams as a negotiation tactic. If you think Revis' team would have been sitting there trying to work out a deal before they could hit the open market, you haven't been paying attention. His market was higher than Idzik wanted to pay. He wasn't getting that contract here.
-

It's less that they can afford to and more that they have to - Denver and New Orleans are in win now mode, Seattle and San Fran are in win long time mode. New England can't afford to wait for an opportunity, they have to go for it.
-
We would have had Richardson anyways even though people have told me multiple times that Milliner wss higher on the Jets draft board as a prospect

I bet you have no factually information backing that and it's just your subjective opinion.
