I suspect they will start tomorrow with cuts.

Maybe tonight.

The Giants, Eagles, and Browns have all cut several players today.

The only way that happens is if he’s so hurt he can’t play any more.

I hadn't noticed this but we actually have more players on the current roster from Pitt (4) than any other school. You must be very proud.

Douglas is really holding his cards close to his chest.

This worries me a little bit because I'm wondering if he's trying to hang on to some guys 'til the last second in hopes that they'll slip through waivers

We had an abnormal amount of guys claimed off waivers last year, so maybe Douglas is trying to get ahead of that.

That was my thought too.  Dean was very consistent in the box against the run, but he's not better than whitehead/Amos so he got cut.

If he can make to the ps I'd be interested to see if they try to turn him into a lb

We have several terrible corners to let go.

Brandin Echols likely makes it but he's suspended Week 1.  He won't count towards the roster limit for one week.

Apparently we have 6 guys on IR

Chuck Clark… and who? Did guys like Nasrilideen and Strevler get reverted to us after they went unclaimed and automatically go to season ending IR?

Did we put guys like Carter Warren and Jerrick Bernard-Converse on IR?

Who are these 6 guys on the IR for us?

You have to cut players before designating them for IR. Both Streveler and Nasirildeen were reported to be headed to the IR when they were cut.

Jerrick Bernard-Converse is still listed as being on the PUP list. Bradley Anae and Ifeadi Odenigbo are two others currently on IR.

They might be moving JBC over. Or that Cruikshank cut might have been an IR designation. I thought it was weird that he got cut BEFORE the final game of the preseason.

That might be true but they wouldn't be trading to persuade us to move on. They'd be trading because he doesn't have enough vested years yet so he'd have to go through the waiver process, and they think someone ahead of them in the waiver order is going to take him.

But why cut Bam Knight and Trey Dean yesterday and let those two (and several others) stick around while he is trying to either swing trades today or dump off some of the guys no one will want?

Maybe my understanding is backwards, and it's actually easier to sneak guys through waivers by releasing them earlier than later.  Dean and Knight are probably our top two.

Rosenblatt speculating...would be odd to bail on Kuntz considering he was a draft pick...albeit a 7th rounder

Quote
All in one place, some notable #Jets bubble players that made the cut — and some who didn’t — based on who is at practice:

In
TE Kenny Yeboah
WR Irv Charles
WR Jason Brownlee
WR Xavier Gipson
LB Chazz Surratt
S Ashtyn Davis
CB Bryce Hall
FB Nick Bawden

Out
TE Zack Kuntz
QB Tim Boyle
DT Tanzel Smart
WR Malik Taylor
OL Trystan Colon

Well, that depends on who's better on special teams.  There's a chance that Charles is a better special teams player than Dean.

Brownlee and Charles are probably bubble players right now.

So based on that practice list of 55 I'd say that Brownlee, Barnes, Surratt, Charles, Gipson, Bawden, Ruckertt and Yeboah are probably the most likely bubble right now. Surratt and Yeboah might be the safest out of that group.

2 years ago our worst player at every position group was worse than Billy turner

Who cares?

EDIT:  we were still trotting out most of Gase's roster 2 years ago, so i'm not sure where you were going with this

Who cares about our roster construction?  I'd think most fans do.

The depth of this team is phenomenal and has gotten so much better.  Floor is soo much higher

Carrying 7 wrs is a bit crazy.  I'm sure someone will eventually get cut, but I'm trying to think of the rationale behind it.  The only thing I can think of is that after this year we only have 2 wrs under contract.  Maybe they are looking to the future a bit knowing they need to fill out the depth atthe wr position

Who is the gunner opposite Justin Hardee?  It's probably Charles or Brownlee

I remember people used to question why we kept Wallace Wright but he was an elite gunner.

Brownlee was pretty impressive on punt coverage in a few games.

Wasn't Echols playing gunner some last year or am I mixing him up with Guidry?

A comparison to show the progress of the roster building as well.

We cut Morstead and Bawden to get down to 53 so clearly two of the guys that made it are going on IR.

My assumption is Warren and Bernard-Converse. Actually, JBC was put on IR before making the 53 so he's out for the season.

Full list

Key cuts

Bawden
Kuntz
JBC
Thomas Morestead
Echols listed as well but I assume that’s not a cut but move to the suspended list

Cutting Morestead until tomorrow implies we plan to PUP / short term IR some guys for sure (well at least one) and Morestead coming back tomorrow is all but a lock once that spot opens up officially

Malik Taylor, Tanzel Smart, and Tim Boyle are probably going to be practice squad additions.

I would also assume whichever of the 7 WRs get booted the next day or two also does the same.

I think he's already on the PUP and can't be added to IR because he didn't actually practice or play.

I thought pup was just a training camp designation.  It doesn't free up a roster spot so what would it's purpose be?

It carries into the regular season and becomes reserved/pup. If a player remains on the PUP list, like JBC, he then has to miss the next 4 games. He can be activated anytime after that. Until then he doesn’t count against the team’s 53 roster.

Okay so that's only if he never practiced.  But if he did practice he has to be on the active roster then moved to ir to be designated for return?

Yes, because once he practices he cannot go back to the PUP list.

Also, we're signing Sam Eguavoen to the practice squad.

Jets re-signed P Thomas Morstead.
Morstead was left off the final 53 but was always likely to return following the waiver window. The 14-year veteran remains one of the league’s premier punters and gives the Jets an established and consistent presence on special teams.
