Marian Gaborik re-ups with LA for seven years, $34M.
Ryan Callahan re-ups with Tampa for six years, $35M.
Dave Bolland has told the Maple Leafs he wants an 8 year contract.
One of these things is not like the others.

Draft day, mofos.
#CANTWAIT
-
Canucks trade Ryan Kesler to the Ducks for Nick Bonino, Sbisa and the 24th overall selection in the 2014 draft.
-
I guess Spezza's not going to Anaheim then. I reckon the Ducks won that trade as well.
-
Sharks will be buying out Havlat, thank god.
-
Jets are doing....nothing.

Jets made a pretty boss pick tonight, Ehlers is going to be a pick time play maker.

Josh Ho Sang, huh?

Josh Ho Sang, huh?
Very very very talented head case. Could be the next Alex Daigle or <pick a nut that became a very good player>
He was one of those based on talent alone would be near a top 10 pick but was crossed off many teams lists because he aspires to be a party animal off the ice.

Apparently the Jets turned down a James Neal for Evander Kane straight up deal. Thank god.

the Jets re-sign Adam Pardy.

I hear that. Thank god they didn't do the Neal for Kane rip off.

Rumors in the Bay say the Sharks are shopping Niemi and the Jets are a player. Byfuglien? ^_^

Given our current goalie situation...i'd take Niemi off your hands. Not for Buff though.

Spezza is gone:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
DAL trades Alec Chiasson, Alex Guptill, Nicholas Paul and 2nd round pick in 2015 to OTT for Jason Spezza and Ludvig Karlsson. #TSN

I honestly know nothing about any of those players.

They are all ethnic French.

Bruce Garrioch @SunGarrioch 10m
The Senators aren't done by a longshot. More trades coming today. #Sens
Well, all right. Let's see what happens next.
-
Also, the Habs tried to trade Josh Gorges to the Leafs and he vetoed it. Now they have no trade and a pissed off player.

Hahahah who is he to veto a trade?

Presumably he has a no trade clause, or at least the right to a list of teams if they want to trade him.

I figured but my question still stands, in addition to:
How the freak did he get a NMC in the first place? At his very best he was just north of mediocre.
-

I think that's a little harsh on him, I think he's quite a useful player. Anyway he just accepted a trade to Buffalo; apparently the worst team in the league last year by a considerable distance are more attractive than the Laffs.
Benoit Pouliot signed with the Oilers for 5yrs / $20M, and the Sens re-signed Michalek for 3yrs / $12M.
-
There's the other big name centre gone - Stastny agrees 4yrs / $28M with St Louis.
Mike Cammalleri and his stupidly hot wife traded to the Devils.
-
Dan Boyle to the Rangers, 2yrs / $9M. I believe that someone on here might have suggested that as a possibility when he turned down the Isles. *smug*
-
Dave Bolland gets 5yrs / $27.5M from Florida. I used to think Dale Tallon was doing a good job.
-
I had no idea hockey players can make so much.
-
I had no idea Dave Bolland could make so much.
-
I had no idea Dave Bolland could make so much.
Or Jussi Jokinen for that matter.
I wanted Cammalleri on the Devils since the trade deadline last year. Contract is fine in terms of dollar amount but is a year too long. On a day where Benoit Puliot got the contract he did, I'm not going to bitch that the Devils went a year too long for a guy who fits like a glove and will probably lead the team in scoring at the end of the year.
-
Don't like the Boyle signing, the rangers should have kept Stralman who is on the right side of 30, entering some prime years and is still improving yearly.
The Poo signing is freaking insanity, lol. Good luck with that Edmonton. The Bolland signing is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have seen this FA period, horrible.
-
holy excrement, Orpik gets 5 years 27 million.
Brooks.............Orpik.
-
Hahhahaahah more insane stuff:
For this absolute stiff:
Capitals announce 5 Years...27.5 million total for Brooks Orpik.
-

I can skate better than Orpik. Which, as you know, says a lot.

That's a great signing given all of these ridiculous contracts.

Just saw that. We needed a center, and he fits the bill. Most likely Ollie the Joker's replacement.
Condolences on getting raped in the Spezza trade, and then losing Hemsky. Yikes.
-
Gionta to Buffalo, Shawn Thornton to Florida, Ales Hemsky to Dallas. Dallas are starting to look like they have a lot of firepower with Benn and Seguin already there.

The Gionta deal is laughable as well.
-

Considering the absolutely insane dealings going on right now (Orpik got what?!?!?!), it was a very nice move for the Jets.
Erhoff to the Pens seems like the steal of the day, and the Canucks got Ryan Miller at a decent price.
-
Condolences on getting raped in the Spezza trade, and then losing Hemsky. Yikes.
Spezza only has a year left on his contract; we got a big young winger with some talent, a couple of unknowns and a second round pick. Hemsky was never staying once Spezza wanted out. I'm not hugely upset.
-

Chiasson stunk it up in the 2nd half of the season this year...he's still learning. At least you kept Michalek.
-
Jonas Hiller to the Flames....2 yr deal, 4.5 AAV.
-
Robidas to Toronto, Ryan Miller to Vancouver, Vanek to Minnesota.
-
Garrioch reckons that the Sens' FA list was Havlat, Pouliot, Moulson, Jokinen and Michalek. They managed to re-sign Michalek, the rest have gone elsewhere and the Sens now have a lower wage bill than any other team in the NHL.

How about Tanner Glass for Evander Kane? Your team would get a lot tougher and pick up a top 3 winger in the ECHL.

Having had the conversation with MB on more than once occasion, I can tell you that there is virtually no conceivable trade scenario involving Evander Kane that he would consider acceptable. Drew Doughty, Jeff Carter, Anze Kopitar, and 24 hours with a naked Kate Upton and a bag of roofies might be enough for him. Might.

I don't buy this at all. There's no way that the Bruins are hated more than any other team in every province of Canada; Quebec maybe, but that's it. Leafs and Canucks have to be top of the list elsewhere.
Also, freak you Wyoming. What did we do to you?

I think I can explain the way Canada shook out. Imagine all of the Canadian fanbases hate other Canadian teams the most, and all of them hate Boston second most. So when they're all added up, Boston comes out with the most because the primary hate was split up.

There are a number of reports this morning that a major NHL expansion will happen in 2017, putting new teams in Quebec City, Toronto (presumably Hamilton), Seattle and Las Vegas.
http://www.si.com/nhl/2014/08/26/report-nhl-expansion-las-vegas-done-deal
-
^ I'm not sure i'm on board with this. The league is already watered down, adding 4 more teams will make it worse.
Adding a team in Las Vegas doesn't make sense either. They've been having problems filling arenas in the sun belt for years, unless of course, they have a competitive roster (LA, ANA, SJ for example). Phoenix gave tickets away at ridiculous prices, and still couldn't fill their arena.
I like the idea of Toronto getting a 2nd team, and Quebec City absolutely deserves another chance. Seattle, i'm 50/50 on.
-
I largely agree with you, although I see a lot of sense in Seattle. It's a sport mad city that really gets behind all of its teams (at least the Seahawks and the Sounders, I don't know how well the Mariners are supported), and there's a shitload of corporate and personal wealth there to tap into. Add in a ready made rivalry with a large established team in Vancouver, and Seattle makes a huge amount of sense to me.
I do agree on Vegas; I'd be more inclined to create two expansion teams, and move two of the less supported teams e.g. the Panthers and the Coyotes.
-
I can't see why they wouldn't just move phoenix and Florida, and add 2 teams. Get ready for even lamer hockey more often.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using Tapatalk
-
I don't like this at all, Vegas? Did they not learn with Pheonix and down here. Those area's are too transient. All the hockey fans down here like other teams. It is going to take 2 generations to develop a loyalty.
They should move Phx and Fla to Seattle and Quebec. BTW Seattle has a history with hockey, they have a successful JR. team there.
-
They shouldn't expand at all. Don't these clowns that run this league know anything?

Agreed. It's nice to see kids who are a year away from being counted on to fill roles play comfortably in pre-season, but the Flyers had no top 6 players playing today. Braden Schenn was the only Flyer of note out there on the offense. Coburn-MacDonald is the only decent D pair on the Flyers entire roster. Poor Steve Mason.
I like Haggerty, Fast, Duclair, and Hayes, but there all not playing this season. Pretty good future prospects, though.

If I was a Flyers fan I would be scared shitless that Coburn and MacDonald were in my top four. Holy excrement were they absolutely brutal tonight. Haggerty and Duclair went around them like they were standing still. I just don't think that's a playoff team but strange things have happened.
-
Andrew MacDonald is hot garbage. Enjoy that crappy contract, Philly.

That Ehlers kid we drafted in the 1st round this year has looked pretty damn good. Fast, smart with the puck, great vision.
Nic Petan may be a runt, but he looks like a steal in the 2nd round 2 years ago.
Chevy has restocked our prospect cupboards, but we're still going to stink it up this year. <3 McDavid/Eichel

My NHL prediction for the season - this is the year that the Edmonton top line finally grow up and use their immense talent to become the beast that they have threatened to be. They won't win the Cup but I think the Oilers will make the postseason and be a team to fear.

Been offered a pair of 100 level tickets, for free, to the Sens home opener. Problem is it's the same night as the Jets play the Patriots.
It's a tougher decision than it might normally be. Ordinarily I wouldn't think twice about turning them down because there are 41 home games a season and I have fairly ready access to free tickets, but with the Jets playing like they have been and me moving away from Ottawa in a couple of months I'm very tempted to the hockey.
-
Go to the hockey game, you crazy?
Nice opening win for my boys tonight. Brock Nelson's gonna be a stud and Boychuk looks awesome. Johnny T looks nice and recovered too. Pissed the Canes scored those late 2, made it look closer than it was. Great start!

Interesting trade theory: currently the Senators have a 1a/1b situation in goal, with Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner sharing the work. Martin Brodeur is currently training with his son's QMJHL team, the Gatineau Olympiques, and has said he wants to play in the NHL still.
My friend has a theory that the Sens will look to trade Anderson to a goalie needy team (Oilers? Jets?) for a good sized return, and sign Brodeur to back up / coach / mentor Lehner. Thoughts? I reckon this would be a good move - I don't think Marty's got it in him to be an every night starter any more, this move would let him play as well as stay near his son and be involved with his junior hockey career.

Nash is a 6'4" guy he skates different. He is a much smoother skater. That said, despite his roly poly body, Kessel is pretty damn fast. The fat is going to take years off his career, but it won't affect his prime that much and he is in his prime right now. If he got into top shape who knows how fast he can be.

I would say Kessel is top 5 when it comes to combining speed and his wrist shot off the rush.

It's top speed and top acceleration. Grabner might be faster as a whole. You never know if a circumstance pissed Tavares off and adrenaline or some other circumstance made him get up and go faster then usual.
-
It's also a strangely selected subset of players; for example if you genuinely wanted the fastest players in the NHL you would need to have people like Havlat and Michalek on there. It's like they've cherry picked the top player from a bunch of teams to compare.

They didn't include Kreider, who is certainly way faster than Nash and MSL. I think they just tested this out on a few players. I will look for the article.

When you're depending on the likes of Andrew MacDonald to be a top 4 defenseman, you might as well put traffic cones out there.

Redraft scenario: you have the opportunity to draft any three current NHL players for your team - one forward, one d-man, one goalie. You can only take one player from any team. Who do you take?
For me:
F - Ryan Getzlaf
D - Drew Doughty
G - Henrik Lundqvist
-
All things equal and they're the same age:
F: Datsyuk or Kopitar
D: Doughty
G: Henrik Lundqvist
-
Current:
F: Toews
D: Doughty
G: Lundqvist
My lifetime:
F: Sakic
D: Lidstrom
G: Roy (and that says a lot, because i freaking hated him)
-

G: Henrik Lundqvist
Puck for GM! Likes his own players that much that he re-drafts them.

Lundqvist has it all, lol. I would have to admit I wouldn't mind being him for a day, a professional athlete that looks like a male model. I would bang enough tail in that one day to keep me satisfied for a long long while.

One of the doziest pieces of play I've seen in a long time just now from Artem Anisimov. Skating through the offensive line alongside the puck with his head turned looking behind him, got absolutely smoked by Gryba and drew a major. Yes, under NHL rules it's a penalty because the head was the principal point of conduct, but Anisimov deserved to get his head taken off just for his utter naivety. Really annoying.
-
Hey Guinness, we just saw that it's the Jets at the Sens on the Saturday night of tailgate weekend - MB and I have to watch that game just for bragging rights one way or the other. It's also the Rangers at Toronto at the same time, so can you think of a bar that will show the Sens/Jets game as well?

I just got a chance to see it. That's was the type of hit they're legislating out of the game. That's said there should be some culpability on Anisimov' s part. Good Lord what was he freaking doing?
Your boy should have gotten the game and such but still there shouldn't be a suspension. In the old days Anisimov would still be sleep.

Entirely agree, I've no complaints about the penalty. I was just astonished that a professional hockey player would be so dozy as to skate into the offensive zone with the puck at his side and his head turned backwards. It's an invitation to get smoked.

You got the Flying Puck as Puck pointed out, which is right outside Penn Station on 7th Ave and 30th St, and you have Legends, which I would call first if I were you guys, and that's pretty close too, on 33rd St. between 6th and 5th Aves. Legends also is huge with the footie (they're also known as the Football Factory).

I would tell them to call any bar before they go to it. A bar would have to have Center Ice, first of all, and Sens-Jets isn't exactly a game many in NY will be clamoring for. Hard enough to get an Islanders game on in the city.

Yeah that's why some of the bars on the list would be decent options, the first is a Sabres bar, I don't think you would get much resistance getting another game on. The Flying Puck was packed to the gills during the playoffs from what I hear.

I wish the current goons had the talent that some of the tougher guys in the 80's and 90's had. It sure seems like many of them just take up roster spots nowadays.
Ring or nor ring Alfie was 9000 times the player.

Was MacLean loopy?
Dave Cameron is was a longtime team Canada guy I think.
-
Not sure about loopy so much, but the stories seem to be that the last couple of seasons he became less of a players' coach and more of a draconian, to the extent that some of the senior players were starting to have a real problem with him. I'm assuming this is part of Methot's undisclosed issue, although he can't have been upsetting Ryan that much given he just signed a big new contract.
Still, I'll give Cameron a chance. I'm bored of watching us lose despite Andy and The Beastman standing on their heads, the back end has been a mess and we don't have enough firepower to make up for it, and I'm also sick of playing "pick the lines with a dart".

Toronto's fan base is large enough to support a second franchise. Id rather see Quebec, seattle or hartford get a team before TO gets a 2nd one....but, TO should get one before Vegas
-
Hamilton getting a team would be awesome, the appetite and the market for hockey in the region massively outstrips that which can be serviced by one team. MLSE don't want it but it's ridiculous that it hasn't happened yet.

Copps would need a ton of expensive upgrades to hold an NHL team, and where would they play in the interim? Can't share the ACC, OHL arenas are too small(London is the largest in the area, at just over 9k).
And downtown Hamilton would be awful. It already sucks driving there when the Bulldogs play, imagine 5k more people? ugh.

Bottom line is the NHL should trim/move a couple of franchises, not entertain more.

Florida and Arizona need to lose their teams.

I was using Hamilton as a catch all for the GTA. There was talk a year or two ago of a new arena in Markham.
Toronto needs a second team. The market is too big to only have one.
-
I just went with Copps because when Basille was going to buy the Coyotes, Copps was the target destination with Basille paying for the upgrades himself. I doubt the Markham arena will ever come to fruition, not with the budget concerns in the whole of the GTA.
I remember they were floating an idea of an arena in the Niagara area, casino-funded of course. That could work...
-
Niagara's too far, they need to be in the GTA catchment area. Niagara would eat into the Buffalo market which wouldn't really be acceptable.
-
I can't think of an area with the funds/willing constituents to build or remodel an arena in the GTA. Not to mention the cost to even get going.

That's based entirely upon numbers that the Star has pulled out of thin air. The only thing standing in the way of a second franchise in the GTA is the fact that Bettman is too excrement scared to stand up to MLSE and do what's right for the sport.

Nah, I'll stick with the Sens - I'll be travelling back to Ottawa at least once a month for work anyway so I'll still get to half a dozen or so games a year. Might go watch the Marlies.
-
Marlies are a good game. Maybe go check out the Hamilton Bulldogs(AHL) too, or Mississauga Majors(OHL).
-
Wrong side of town for me, although I do like junior hockey - will probably go watch the 67s when they're in Oshawa and maybe Mississauga (who are now the Steelheads, I believe).

Meh he is kind of shot if you ask me. They won last year in spite of him, not because of him. He was a good 4th liner though. Just way way way too expensive for that roll. I am surprised they didn't use their cap exemption on him like the Rangers used on Brad Richards, unless they used their 2 up already, to be honest I am not sure if they did. I know that was in the discussion.

Yeah, but that roster is loaded with veteran talent. On a team like the Sens he'd play a much bigger role, and he's not even 30 yet. It's a stupid contract but it falls off, so over the next five years it averages out to something like $4.5M per year which isn't awful.

I don't really see him as a player that will last into his 30's, he won't age well. Then again I am not sure if it's the way he is being used or if the physical beatings and partying has finally caught up to him, he is an odd duck. He is worth taking a chance on though, just in case he isn't done, I will agree with you there. He has been a Capt. or A. Capt in every place he has been from JR on up.

2 teams have now given up on him. As Puck noted, he's on the downswing of his career, no matter if he's not 30 yet.

They think he can get him into the playoffs...
I understand why they want Jagr, I don't understand why he'd want to go there. Even if he can get them over the line, they're not going deep.
-
Jagr just wants to play even at his age, he's the first in the rink and the last one to leave. He probably has the single best work ethic in hockey, a little known fact.
-
I was actually holding onto the hope maybe the Isles would trade for Jagr and put him on JT's line.
-
Senators are streaking right now, our third choice goalie just got back to back shutouts on the road against Anaheim and LA. Five points outside the playoffs with a game in hand.
-
The Coyotes are streaking too. In the wrong direction. Or the right direction if you want McDavid.
-
I liked having Jagr on the Devils but I understand the deal. Doesn't look like we're making the playoffs short of a miracle.

Silfverberg's goal against the 'Yotes was a doozy.

Yeah he died last week, didn't know anyone here followed him.
-
I wouldn't say I followed him, but I just went to look at the site and it has gone which led me to the stories of his death.
In other hockey news, I'm going to put this out there. Mark Stone should win the Calder. He's the only rookie to be in the top 5 in all offensive categories, he's outstanding defensively, and he has spent a large part of the season playing on a line with two other rookies.
-
the webpage is no longer available.
That site helped the same way over the cap helps us with the Jets, and it was more interactive.
The whole thing is sad.
-
I would give it to Ekblad, he's and 18 year old defenseman that's stepped in and looked like a seasoned vet. That's exceedingly rare for a guy that age. He has looked a lot better than any defenseman at that age since I don't know when. Again, I think Stone and Johnny Hockey are probably more dynamic at this point but they're a good 3-4 years older. I have no argument with either of the 3 winning it and I am certainly not saying it because of where I live at the moment.
-

He stopped it in February, because of "health reasons".

Ekblad is a good shout. Gaudreau has fancy numbers but I don't think he's as dominant a player as Stone, Stone does everything. He steals the puck like Datsyuk in his prime, he's a complete two way forward whose skating isn't as bad as people claim, and he thinks like a veteran. Just look at this goal:

He plays a lot like Kevin Hayes. When the Rangers play the Sens, I am sure you will be impressed with Hayes. Unfortunately, for Hayes he didn't start the season this good, it's like every block of 5-10 games he gets better and better. I honestly believe he is one of the 5 best forwards on the entire Rangers team and maybe better than that. He's no Calder threat though because of his first 30 odd games. He didn't have the adjustment to pro hockey that Stone ( he was in the AHL) had, not a knock at Stone in the slightest, so it took him longer to figure it out. Yeah I have noticed Stone he is a great pick up.
Here is Hayes:

I am including this one, the goal is nice but has no business being scored at the NHL level, because it shows his defensive prowess as he gets the puck backchecking, it's the only one I can find:

I could really do without two games against the Rangers. We're in a great run of form but apart from two games against the Leafs we have a bitch of a run-in and we've now lost Michalek and Puempel to injury to go along with MacArthur, Neil, Anderson and Lehner. (I'm not including Phillips as we have reached the stage of his absence being addition by subtraction, sadly.)

Actually, it's the 2 best teams this month going at it, it should be great hockey. I like watching Karlsson, make that love watching Karlsson.
I understand your sentiment. It's too bad your team waited so long to catch fire, I do hope you beat out the Bruins even if it means a first round matchup against the Rangers.
-
I'd have no problem with a first round matchup with the Rangers, it's actually getting there that concerns me. It will definitely be fun to watch and Karlsson has been back to his very best since Methot came back and allowed him to get on with being Erik Karlsson, but this is still a flawed team that's lacking depth. Our fourth line tonight is Legwand-Greening-Smith, and Alex Chiasson is playing on the top line. That's not a team that is going to do damage in the postseason.

Depth would certainly hamper a long run but that doesn't preclude winning a round or 2. Besides you know playoff hockey is the funbags.

Looks like the Hamburglar is going to be out for a little bit, the injury from the collision with Couture isn't right. Anderson in net this morning at practice but we don't know for sure whether he's game ready. Our only fit goaltending option is Chris Driedger, who was an emergency call up from the ECHL. Not sure that the ACC is an ideal place for his first start.

Sadly the Laffs couldn't do us a favour. We need Boston to drop two points more than us in the remaining games; they're on the road against Washington, Florida and Tampa, while we've got a home game v Pittsburgh and road games against Toronto, Philly and the Rangers. It's a hell of a race but I don't think we're going to quite get ahead of them.
The dark horse is Pittsburgh who are not playing well at all and are missing key players, if we beat them in Ottawa then we're only a point behind them. Their other remaining games are home to the Islanders who are also slumping, and on the road against Philly who are ridiculously strong at home and Buffalo.
It's an incredibly exciting end to the season.

Not even close. My only hope is these guys step up despite him, stay out of the penalty box and Halak can play the way he's been playing lately.

I don't see the Caps trouncing the Islanders at all. I am not convinced they're a good team. They have one guy with over 20% of their goals. Good luck on him scoring like that in the playoffs. The only thing that will kill the Islanders is mediocre penalty killing. Trounce? No freaking way.

I would, they're a garbage playoff team. There's no depth there, none. Their defense and goaltending are horrid and I believe that Malkin/Crosby can be shut down enough to the point they're a non factor. I am saying this, any team that loses to that garbage, doesn't deserve to win the Stanley Cup. If Pitt wins the first round I will be amazed, there's no chance they will win a second. I will bet any amount on that.
-
They're obviously not going to win the Cup but it doesn't mean they're not dangerous opponents. Your supposedly all conquering outfit managed to lose games in quick succession to the Bruins and the Caps YOU freaking CUNTS and they're not much better than the Pens.

I have never ever said the Rangers are all conquering. I know they're not and they have some holes in their game, in the cap era all teams do. The Rangers have very good depth in all spots. They have a better than even chance of getting back to the finals. However, there are a few teams that can beat them in a 7 games series. Those teams are Tampa, Detroit, Islanders, Boston (not likely), and the Caps (very unlikely). I do not think the Pens have a snowballs chance in hell of beating the Rangers.

Deal. Roll over and let us take 7th, much rather face Montreal over 7 than the Rangers. Despite you shafting us in the last two weeks I still think the Rangers are the second best team in the league after the Blues. We can take the Habs.

If we can't take 1 point out of these last 4 then we don't deserve anything. I already hate this team.
I would take one positive out of it though. There's no way Capuano and this piece of excrement staff could survive that, right? Right?
Right?

You'll get in I am pretty certain. That loss tonight was freaking pathetic though.

This is such an awesome story.

When he does go, I think he will only be second to #11 in the hearts of Sens fans. The guy has built an amazing system.

As a Ranger fan I'd much rather face the Sens, not just because I don't want to face Boston if they don't have to, but also because I would be slightly less upset to lose to a team not from Boston if they lost in the 1st round anyway.
Also Calgary is doing their job against LA right now.

A full strength Rangers team will not struggle against the Sens, we've had a great run to get here but the Rangers are the best team I've seen this season. Give us Montreal though, we've got those fuckers' number.
Also, Larry Brooks is a dick:
Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie 4m4 minutes ago
Senators will need to play a whole lot better in Philly than they did against mentally and physically drained Rangers.
Mentally and physically drained? They've played the same number of games as the Sens, and they called up some fresh blood to rest the stars.

Larry Brooks isn't real.

Two of the most insufferable twats involved in hockey. It's no wonder they butted heads.

"Operation Regicide" will ultimately lead to the Kings getting Eichel or McDavid.
Kings are gone and the NHL rejoices. Also congrats to MB for getting to see some playoff hockey this year.

Lol wouldn't it be freaking nuts if the Kings got McDavid? I don't think they can get the 2nd pick.

Thank you, sir.
I haven't seen Wpg Jet playoff hockey since 1996...I'm pumped.

Four Canadian teams in the playoffs and if we can avoid choking on Saturday it will be five. I'll just be disappointed that Edmonton sucked so badly, nothing would be more fun than the Leafs fans having to watch the whole of Canada in the playoffs.

Not this year, no. I can't see beyond the Rangers and the Blues in the final.

Everything can stay the way it is seed wise.
I'll happily take the Pens in round 1.

So freaking annoyed, the Sens have blown their chance at McDavid. freak.

Impressive SENS, If Stoner don't win the Calder I should give him mine. #Bigtime

The Rangers have the most favourable matchup I have seen in a long while.

It'll be MBGreen vs IJR in round 1. Should be a gooder.
-
I think he just misses his chum Torts.
Brooks and Tortarella hated each other. Like, legimately.
Last night's loss was so freaking Islanders it's not even funny. I do not have a lot of confidence going in. I'll say one thing, for all the talent 91 has, he has so much freaking heart it's not funny. Tavares almost single handedly won that game last night.
We need Hamonic and Neilsen back for Wednesday and Grabbo would be a bonus. I thought Washington played very dirty against the Rangers yesterday, so getting Martin back would help too. Too much dead wood, and that's especially what behind our bench. Besides all his usual dumb excrement, he sends out Clutterbuck for the shootout?!

That was to be expected.
Bring back Burke! I just want to see the Leaf fans describe players as "Burkie type" again.

Y'all down to post some predictions?
Was very tempted to push the Jets ahead of the Ducks, same with the Sens over the Canadians.
Had the Isles losing to the Caps just because of how shitty they have been playing for the past month.
Blues and Rangers would be a fun final to watch.

Boston Bruins relieve Peter Chiarelli of General Manager duties. Read full release: http://bbru.in/1HsJlLR
If Claude Julien is next, he won't be out of work for long. Same goes for Chiarelli.
-
If i'm Brendan Shanahan, you drop whatever the freak mundane thing you're doing and you get on the phone with Peter Chiarelli immediately.
-
They should have never fired Gorton.
It's debatable how good Chiarelli is, the dude made a lot of mistakes of the last few years, a lot.
-

he rebuilt the Bruins into a formidable team. He also did some good work in Ottawa.
the only glaring mistake he made that sticks out in my mind was trading away Seguin.
-

Gorton had a lot to do with it as well.
Chiarelli also let the team get shitty in a hurry, by making bad trades, handing out shitty contracts and getting into cap hell, and not constructing a decent roster. He is very similar to Tannenbaum.

I disagree...he's drafted well. I'm still pissed we passed on Dougie Hamilton.
EDIT: i looked at Boston's draft history since 2007....it's a tire fire. i stand corrected.
-
Would absolutely love to see Julien get canned as well. :)

No he really hasn't.
Edit: Lol I didn't see your correction.
Further Edit: that 2007 draft was all Gorton, he ran that draft and was promptly fired.
-

Yeah he would work well with your roster.
-
No he really hasn't.
I edited my post.
He's still well respected around the league. He'll find work pretty quick.
-
He won't be out of work long no, I agree. Where I disagree is that I don't think he was anything great the last couple of years.
-

Well..he did make it to the playoffs every year except for 1 while he was a GM in Boston, and he's got a recent cup win. I'd take that.

He let that roster go to excrement with bad move after bad move. Look at all he has done the last 3 years, it's awful man. Neil Smith won a cup with the Rangers I wouldn't let him near an ECHL team.
I am saying buyer beware at his next job.
-

The Krejci extension was a bit of a headscratcher as well. I can't see him going to Toronto to be Shanahan's yes man though.
Ottawa are looking for a replacement for Bryan Murray, and he has connections with us. I wouldn't be averse. I could also see Tim Murray coming back to Ottawa and Chiarelli stepping in at Buffalo.
-
He handed out some really bad contracts and trading Boychuk was freaking stupid.
-

This. And the Seguin trade.
I know why the trade was supposedly made, but you just don't trade away first overall picks like that. Especially when Loui Erikson is the centerpiece of the deal.
-
Yeah he would work well with your roster.
Im done with ahl coaches, get me a real coach.

His trades were straight up trash, he also traded Wheeler. lol MBGreen should love that trade.

It would be a similar roster to the Bruins only a lot faster and more skilled up top, maybe not so much on the back end. When they won the cup they had Chara, Seidenberg, Boychuk in their primes.

With the moves he has made I really don't see how Julien can really be blamed for it. Chara, Lucic, Hamilton, I know I'm forgetting someone, all missed significant time.

Have you watched them play this season? For long periods they were gutless, unimaginative and uninspired. That's on the coach.

Krejci was a significant injury.

Most coaches go stale for reason or another, I think he would be good for the Islanders if it came to that. That said, their demise is more on the GM than coach.
-
I wouldn't disagree with that, but as we know all too well it's very hard to successfully replace a GM without giving him the ability to handpick his own head coach.

He wants to be big swinging dick somewhere. If he goes to Toronto, Kessel and Van Riemsdyk are as good as gone. They're not Babcock type players. excrement that entire team is gone.

I wonder if a dark horse like San Jose snuck in under the radar. Babcock used to live in Cali. That would be a huge coup for the Sharks.
EDIT: was just informed that SJ didn't have permission to interview the Babcock.

Done deal. Babcock is the new Leafs head coach, $50M over 8 years.
-
That is such crazy money.
-
He was better off in Buffalo, young roster he can mold and create a foundation. The Leafs are a excrement roster with even shittier disinterested players.
Kessel has my body and I am an out of shape 44 year old. lol Good luck with that Babcock.

Unless he manages to turn the franchise around. If he wins a Cup in Toronto, he's a God.

It's a long haul to do that. Puck's right about the roster, and the farm isn't in great shape. You can't build a winning team through trades alone, that's the mistake that the Leafs have been making for so long; pretty much every team that wins the Stanley Cup has a core of homegrown players, and if Babcock can win a Cup with Kadri, Reimer, Reilly and Gardiner as its heart then he's earning every penny of that $50M.
-
Unless he manages to turn the franchise around. If he wins a Cup in Toronto, he's a God.
He's a great coach but that roster has to be blown up. Kessel to me is a Gaborik like player without the defensive prowess. Meaning hes going to have to play on a team that has really good players and his lazy self absorbed self can play a complimentary part. I want to make clear Gaborik is not lazy at all, just that he isnt a guy alone that would win a cup, but on a LA type team fuhgedaboudit. Kessel I think can be similar in that respect but Gaborik is fifty times the teamate and all around player to be clear.
Also, his partner in crime Van Riemsdyk is another Douchebag. I read where those two morons were the root cause of the US team losing in the Olympics. They completely ruined that team.
Then there's Phaneuf and his contract, which is shtty by any metric. Not the of which he isnt very good.
There's a ton of work to be done there. If I was him gut the roster and do it like JE says. The homegrown guys they have now are meh squared. I suppose this is a great draft to start the process.
-
Disagree with you on JvR, I like him a lot.
-

He's a noted Douchebag JE, like team killing. Maybe with another change of scenery he can shed that label, like Carter.
-
Detroit has some of the best scouting in the league and drafts fantastically every freaking year. I attribute that to the teams success way more than a coach. It's a well run franchise.

Agreed, but look at the coaches who have come through under Babcock. He gets a lot of credit for Detroit's success, and his game day coaching is superb.

I've got Jack freaking Capuano as a coach. Mike Babcock might as well be Jack Adams as far as I'm concerned.

He's got a fat, long contract's worth of time. I don't think anyone expects a thing in the next few years. I meant that if he brought a Cup to Toronto eventually he's a God. It's like winning the Super Bowl as coach of the Jets only MUCH bigger.
-
He's got a fat, long contract's worth of time. I don't think anyone expects a thing in the next few years.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You really don't understand Toronto.
Trust me, they're going to be asking questions before the end of next season if it looks like the Leafs might not make the playoffs. I have never seen an environment like this surrounding any team in any sport anywhere. The expectation is ridiculous.

Apparently the Sabres thought they had Babcock locked up, and went as far as scheduling a news conference 2 days ago. lol
The Sabres offered the same money that Toronto signed Babcock for.
Buffalo got Antoine Winfield'd.

QUACK
Reilly was angry they couldn't hit an empty netter.
