Each spin is independent. There's such thing as odds. It isn't blackjack or poker. All you're doing is deluding yourself.

It's a game that heavily favors the house. These are facts.

Eh I wouldn't say heavily. I play red or black. And constantly double up on my loses.

I never make bank, but usually pay for my hotel and ferry

Yes heavily. There's over a 5% house edge which is many times greater than any other normal table. The only thing worse is slots.

You being lucky a few times doesn't change that fact.

There's definitely a pattern playing roulette. There's a reason that big board with all the flashy numbers are right next to every wheel. Is it luck, of course. There's a certain amount of luck involved in every game.

I rarely play numbers, I usually play corners or straddle rows across (6 squares).

I know. Jfif is at it again. We're not all big time gamblers like you. I bow to your superiority. Maybe Bo has a mortgage and a kid and he doesn't want to drop $25 a hand playing black jack but would still like the comraderie of playing a table game that's still a) fun b) gives a relatively easy chance of winning a little c) a game he can sip a drink during and d) isn't a slot machine.

I love how you quoted "good" at roulette in your post too, basically insinuating I ever said that too. I know you'll find some way to argue about it, but I've always found some way to be up playing roulette. In fact most times I play, I usually find myself up a few hundred bucks. But, I'm guessing unlike you, I sit at a minimum $15 table and spread it around. Like dcm said, patience is important, but Bo doesn't strike me as the type of guy who'll throw $50 down on one or two numbers. Sorry for the edits, but I'm too busy chasing my kid around to keep typing.

There really are no odds. If 17 hits, then the odds that 17 will hit again are the exact same as any other number or zeros.

I don't see how this escapes the 2 of you. But if I straddle 2 rows and play a corner that gives me nearly a 33% chance to hit something, anything.

Bo started this thread, he's looking a low impact, no pressure game that he can play while he gets hammered.

Read the OP again. Slowly. He doesn't want to read poker books or be a card shark. He's not walking into the freaking casino looking to win every dollar in it. The guy just wants to have fun.

For some reason I haven't yet posted in this thread.

The best game to play in any casino is poker. You're not playing the house you're playing other people. The inherent edge you will have against random people is most people are idiots.
As far as other games this is the order to play them based on the house edge:

Craps- Very slight edge to house, you can play/buy true odds, the only game the house lets you do that. Do not play the prop bets or hard way bets they're horrid odds wise among the worst in the casino. This game is the most fun by far of the table games. If you're hesitant to play it's really easy, tip the dealers and they will take care of you and make sure you bet and play correctly, they're a great resource believe it or not.

BJ- Playing correct basic strategy makes the house a slight favorite. So you can conceivably play all night on the same pool of money provided you're not a drunk sailor.

Video Poker- if you find the right machines you can get them pretty close to break even.

Slots- The casino equivalent to the boob tube crap, you don't have a chance to win here, the houses biggest money maker bar none.

Roulette- Among the worst gambles in the entire casino. If you bet small enough I suppose you can make you money last a decent amount of time, just don't expect to come out ahead unless it's an oddball situation.

You guys are filling him with too much info.

My last advice is just have fun. Unless winning a shitload of money is your objective. My best night in a casino I "only" won $600 playing primarily black jack and roulette. My worst night I lost about $300 because I was wasted at a bachelor party.
I bet like a hoo-ha though. I prefer to have fun not be a riverboat gambler. I thought that was Bo's objective but maybe my reading comp is off.

If you assume that you're going to lose, and you are, in my experience blackjack is by far the best way to control the rate of loss while having fun, getting merrily drunk and being social.

Guinness has me pegged.  I know slots are not great odds, but since my profession requires thinking all day, I prefer to zone out and watch flashy lights to relax.  I rather enjoy nickel slots knowing that I'm only going to lose so much.  I may try our some blackjack, but that's about the extent of thinking I'm looking to do.  I just want to zone out, drink beer and relax.  My greatest expectation would be to break even.

Blackjack is pretty easy, not intimidating and the dealer should be able to help you out if you're confused. Just find the lowest-stake table you can and chill out.
