Vegas took the best player available. Even if Penix slide to them at 13, he's horrible value there too.
The only thing I could see is Penix being both injury insurance for Cousins and definitely his replacement in 2 years. Barring a trade, they can't bail on Cousins until 2026 at the earliest. Keeping Penix on the bench for more than 2 years is such a waste of resources for such a high first round pick, even if he ends up being good. At least Jordan Love was a much later/cheaper first rounder, and the Packers were already a 13 win team when they did it.
Maybe Penix sits for a year and they trade Cousins next year. That an awful big bet though and they'd have to eat a ton of cap space with the guarantee they gave him.
By the way, the s key being next to the x key is going to get my fat, typo fingers in trouble when talking about Penix.
