The Duffers are great at world building but suck with character development

If you wanted to complain about the Duffer Brothers’ writing you could have picked something other than what they told you they would do in the first episode.
Such as:
-Keeping Will as background character who is coded gay instead of actually exploring his mental state.
-“Oh right, Will has a connection to the Upside Down, too!”
-Max and Eleven’s relationships are only discussed in terms of their love interests or male family members and completely ignore how they relate to each other despite placing a massive emphasis on their friendship in the previous season.
-The speech giving basketball captain was definitely cut content from Riverdale
-The only reason Lucas was on the basketball team was because they didn’t know how else to get Erica in on the Hellfire Club game.
-Why did the cops and the mob act like the Eddie was the only member of the Hellfire club?
