Someone on reddit made a good point, Betsy Kettleman is probably behind all of the embezzlement. Her husband is spineless and does whatever she tells him. She talked him into stealing the money.

Yeah I had no doubt she was involved. You can tell in the scene where they first meet Saul.

Ah got it. I was racking my brain and had never heard of some disease that would cause electronics to actually affect a person in the way he was apparently experiencing.

Mental illness also explains Hamelin being a dick milking his existence since he can't recognize what's actually wrong with himself and as such very likely will never improve

I figured they were hinting at that when they showed the image of him running back into his home and the woman watched him across the way being highly confused.
